- Chapter 80 - The Art of Escape
The lake was also teeming with water monsters. The Sea Monk and Stone Turtle resided there, and the boats stood no chance against them, meeting a grim fate. Those on the riverbank faced even greater terror. Many of them died without understanding how. Their corpses bore traces of mosquito bites, leading others to assume that their deaths were due to these small marks.
What they didn’t know was that these people had been killed by the Purple-Gold Mosquito. In fact, these individuals were somewhat fortunate; most others met their end at the hands of colossal beasts like the giant bear, the giant python, or the giant ape.
Some tried to enter the Misty Area by flying through the sky. They were greeted by massive crows.
At this very moment in the sky:
“White Crane, fly me straight to the center of the Misty Area. I don’t believe the sky holds any danger,” a cultivator sneered. Below, terrifying beasts roamed, but he had a flying beast to carry him into the Misty Area from above. This time, the opportunities in the Misty Area were his for the taking.
As he smirked in anticipation, a massive crow, nine feet long, appeared. The white crane under him trembled in fear. The giant crow wasted no time, darting toward the white crane with lightning speed. With a single strike, the white crane was torn apart, its blood raining down, and it let out a mournful cry as it plummeted toward the forest below.
The cultivator on the white crane crashed into the woods with a loud thud. Unlike ordinary people, cultivators aren’t so easily killed by a fall. He was severely injured but still alive.
“I must escape, I have to get out of here,” the cultivator muttered through clenched teeth, his face twisted with rage. The Misty Area was too terrifying, but if he could survive and reveal its secrets, he was sure the Great Xia Empire would stop at nothing to eradicate this place. That would be his revenge.
He didn’t notice the inconspicuous white mushrooms growing at his feet, their spores silently wrapping around his legs. When he tried to stand up and flee, he found that his legs wouldn’t move.
“What is this?” the cultivator exclaimed as he looked down, only to see the mushrooms. He was furious. He couldn’t defeat those terrifying beasts, but now even mushrooms dared to challenge him?
Immediately, he unleashed his spiritual power, turning it into flames that burned toward the mushrooms. However, though the flames blackened the mushrooms and their spores slightly, they weren’t significantly damaged. Meanwhile, more spores were released, and soon his lower body was completely entangled.
“No…” The cultivator’s face twisted in terror. He realized that these spores had a powerful corrosive effect.
With a thud, he fell to the ground, his legs corroded away. Within two breaths, his entire body was enveloped by the spores, and he quickly decomposed, becoming nourishment for the white mushrooms.
Not far away, another cultivator who witnessed this scene trembled with fear. This Mist Zone had become a hellish nightmare in his mind, where danger lurked everywhere—even the mushrooms could kill.
Elsewhere, in a valley, a fierce battle raged. A team of human explorers, among the most elite and well-equipped, fought valiantly. Their leader was a powerful cultivator at the peak of the Foundation Establishment stage. The surrounding beasts, though formidable, struggled against this team. But then, the cultivators’ pupils suddenly contracted as they spotted a white python.
The python was over 160 feet long, and its aura alone made the cultivators wary. It was a supreme grade second-tier beast. But what was even more terrifying was that atop the python sat a green-haired woman. She looked human, but her green hair, demeanor, and companionship with beasts made her seem anything but human.
The green-haired woman and the white python did not hesitate—they attacked the cultivators. A terrifying aura at the third-tier erupted from the green-haired woman, and within moments, the exploration team was completely decimated.
“These humans are truly troublesome,” the white python hissed. “We need to get rid of them quickly, or when Lord Divine Tree wakes up and sees the Misty Area in such chaos, he might become angry.”
Su Mu was still asleep, so the defense against the human invaders was entirely organized by his subordinates. After dispatching the intruders, the white python and the green-haired woman moved on to cleanse other areas.
Those who lingered on the outskirts of the Misty Area might be spared, but anyone who ventured into the inner regions had to die. Only through merciless slaughter could they instill fear in humans and suppress their greed, ensuring that the Mist Zone wouldn’t be plagued by endless waves of intruders.
After they left, the air rippled, and a figure appeared. It was a woman in gray. Her appearance was unremarkable—she could easily blend into a crowd—but she had mastered an extremely rare technique known as the “Escape Art,” commonly called “Invisibility Art.” Many had tried to learn it, but only she had the talent to succeed.
“That woman was terrifying!” the gray-clad woman whispered, her face pale. She was certain now that the green-haired woman was not human. The aura she sensed when the green-haired woman attacked was clearly that of a powerful demon. It was obvious that she was a shapeshifted great demon.
“What did you see?” a voice suddenly asked.
The gray-clad woman froze, turning slowly to find the green-haired woman standing there.
“I… I…” the gray-clad woman stammered, her teeth chattering.
The green-haired woman looked at her with curiosity. “Did you just use the legendary Escape Art?”
Without her Heaven and Human Induction ability, the green-haired woman might not have noticed the gray-clad woman’s presence.
“Please… don’t kill me. I can give you the Escape Art,” the gray-clad woman stammered, finally managing to speak coherently under the pressure of impending death.
“Very well,” the green-haired woman replied.
The gray-clad woman pretended to reach for a scroll of the technique, but in the next moment, she suddenly vanished.
“Hahaha! No matter how strong you are, you can’t catch me if I want to leave,” her voice echoed, full of smugness. She had used the Escape Art once more.
