- Chapter 64 - The Silver Moon Wolf King
The Silver Moon Wolf King’s eyes narrowed as it focused on the figure in front of it—a young human male.
The wolf king was no stranger to humans. Over the years, it had encountered them numerous times. With its heightened intelligence, it understood how dangerous humans could be and had always avoided direct confrontation with them. But that didn’t mean it would tremble in fear when faced with a human, especially one that dared to approach it with such audacity.
Boom, boom, boom…
The battle between them erupted immediately.
“This really is troublesome,” murmured the young man, Lin Che.
He was no ordinary human; his cultivation had reached the late stage of the Foundation Establishment realm. Yet, even he found himself struggling against the Silver Moon Wolf King. However, Lin Che was not without his own resources.
Gua, gua, gua…
Suddenly, the cries of crows echoed in the sky. Five Spirit Crows descended upon the scene.
To Lin Che’s surprise, the Silver Moon Wolf King froze upon seeing these crows.
“Divine Crows?” the wolf king uttered, speaking in the human tongue. “You… you are sent by the Divine One?”
Lin Che was taken aback. He had encountered many spirit beasts capable of speech, but they were all under the command of the Divine Tree. Outside of that, he had never met any other spirit beast capable of human speech.
This made the Silver Moon Wolf King the first exception—a testament to the wolf king’s extraordinary nature.
Although Lin Che was surprised, he quickly composed himself, at least outwardly. “You recognize the Spirit Crows?” he asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Of course,” the Silver Moon Wolf King replied. “Who in the Ancient Wilderness Mountains doesn’t know of the ten Divine Crows that dwell within the Misty Forbidden Zone? Their presence is the manifestation of the Divine One’s will.”
With a long howl, the Silver Moon Wolf King commanded its pack to cease fighting. Lin Che also signaled the Earthquake Bear to halt its attack. He hadn’t anticipated that the Spirit Crows would wield such authority—or rather, that the Divine Tree had endowed them with such power.
Recalling the Divine Tree’s intentions, Lin Che addressed the wolf king, “The Divine Tree wishes to see you. Will you continue to resist, or will you come with me?”
“I will go with you,” the Silver Moon Wolf King replied, its voice filled with excitement and anticipation at the prospect of meeting the Divine One.
An hour later, the Silver Moon Wolf King followed Lin Che to finally meet the being it had long revered.
Previously, the wolf king had speculated about the Divine One’s appearance. Now, as it stood before the Divine One, it felt both surprised and yet reassured by the sight.
The Divine One was a grand ginkgo tree, with a trunk as solid as bronze and leaves as verdant as jade. The wolf king was surprised to find that the Divine One was a tree, yet it made perfect sense.
Upon reflection, it realized that if the Divine One had taken any other form, it would have felt unnatural. A tree, symbolizing peace and justice, devoid of the desires that plagued animals, was exactly what a deity should be. Up close, the wolf king could feel the vast, immeasurable pressure emanating from the Divine Tree, making it feel as insignificant as an ant in comparison.
At the same time, Su Mu was assessing the Silver Moon Wolf King. He intended to establish another dominant force within the Ancient Wilderness Mountains to help divert attention from himself and draw the focus of the human forces.
However, this new leader couldn’t be weak; it needed to be formidable enough to stand on its own. A worthless ally would be of no help, no matter how much effort was put into supporting it.
[Species: Variant Spirit Wolf]
[Length: 100 feet]
[Lifespan: 1200 years]
[Rank: Second-Tier, Supreme Grade]
[Abilities: Celestial Moon Soul, Power of Red Flame, Razor Claws]
The Power of Red Flame and Razor Claws were fairly common abilities, suggesting that the Silver Moon Wolf King had once been an ordinary spirit wolf. However, the key lay in its “Celestial Moon Soul.”
Su Mu had a straightforward way of uncovering the truth—he asked the Silver Moon Wolf King directly.
“Have you ever undergone a significant transformation?” Su Mu’s thought resonated within the wolf king’s mind, causing it to pause. Then, realizing it was the voice of the Divine One, it eagerly recounted its encounter with the falling star and how it had merged with it.
Su Mu understood immediately. The wolf king had indeed received an extraordinary blessing.
“Would you be willing to submit to me?” Su Mu asked next. He didn’t expect the wolf king to agree easily—after all, it was a king in its own right.
To his surprise, the Silver Moon Wolf King responded eagerly, “I, this little wolf, am willing to go through fire and water for the Divine One.”
Su Mu was taken aback for a moment before chuckling. “You’ve learned quite a bit of human language.”
“Heh heh,” the wolf king scratched its head with a paw, looking almost sheepish—a stark contrast to the fearsome demeanor it had displayed in the wolf valley. Lin Che, watching from the side, was dumbfounded. Was this really the same wolf king that had exuded such dominance and power, even suppressing him? If not for its enormous size, the wolf king’s current behavior could easily be mistaken for that of a loyal dog.
Su Mu decided not to hold back and bestowed the Silver Moon Wolf King with a drop of Life Essence. The wolf king’s eyes lit up as it sensed the power of the essence. As it absorbed the Life Essence through its brow, it visibly relaxed, reveling in the newfound energy.
Su Mu then attempted to replicate the wolf king’s “Celestial Moon Soul.” However, he was startled to discover that he didn’t have enough lifespan to do so. After a rough estimation, he realized that replicating the Celestial Moon Soul would require an unimaginable amount of lifespan.
This further highlighted the extraordinary nature of the Celestial Moon Soul. It wasn’t merely an ability; it seemed that the wolf king had an actual “Celestial Moon Soul” entity within it, and its tier was exceedingly high.
Understanding this, Su Mu decided not to push the issue. No matter how powerful the Celestial Moon Soul was, it couldn’t surpass the capabilities of his own system. The significant gap in power between him and the Silver Moon Wolf King was evidence enough.
“From now on, you shall continue as the wolf king,” Su Mu declared. “Do you have a name?”
“The other beasts call me ‘Silver Moon Wolf King,'” the wolf replied.
“That’s just a title,” Su Mu mused before smiling. “I’ll give you a proper name—how about ‘Xiaotian’?”
“Xiaotian?” The wolf king was thrilled by the name. “It’s a good name, very powerful. From now on, I shall be known as ‘Xiaotian.'”
Afterward, the Silver Moon Wolf King returned to the wolf valley, slightly disappointed but understanding. It was still attached to the valley, and this arrangement allowed it to have the best of both worlds. Now, as a subordinate of the Divine Tree, it no longer needed to fear threats from the Misty Forbidden Zone. The wolf valley could continue to thrive without worry.
At the same time, in Su Family Village, significant changes were underway. The catalyst for this transformation came from Canglan Town.
Not long ago, Canglan Town had been ravaged by a demonic flower, leaving it in a dire state. Those who managed to escape fled in droves, with most choosing to head toward Su Family Village rather than Pinghu Town, as the latter had a longstanding feud with Canglan Town.
