It seemed as if the situation was exactly as Su Mu and Su Yao had feared.

The next day, another group of dozens of strange beings appeared. This sight made the people of Su Family Village pale, giving them an extremely ominous feeling.

If these strange beings were endless, the mere thought terrified them.

Not far from Su Family Village, several figures appeared.

Among them, one person was recognizable to the people of Su Family Village—it was Zhao Xueqing. However, this time, she was not the leader. Instead, a middle-aged man led the group.

“Corpse puppets, they really are corpse puppets,” the middle-aged man’s face was grim. “The intelligence we received was actually true. There really are corpse puppets near the Ancient Wilderness Mountain Range.”

“The appearance of corpse puppets means there’s a demonic entity or an evil cultivator behind this,” said the others, their faces turning pale.

“Uncle,” Zhao Xueqing said, “what should we do now?”

The middle-aged man was her uncle, Wei Renxiao, the vice lord of the Azure Cloud Hall.

“Leave,” Wei Renxiao ordered. “We must leave Su Family Village as quickly as possible. This place has already been marked by a demonic entity and will eventually become demonic ground.”

“But what about the villagers…” Zhao Xueqing was reluctant.

“They are doomed. We can’t save them, and if we stay too long, we will also die,” Wei Renxiao said, hastening their departure.

However, before they had gone far, they encountered another group of dozens of corpse puppets blocking their path.

“Fight! We must break through!” Wei Renxiao shouted.

His strength was extraordinary. As he unleashed his power, displaying the formidable might of a Foundation Establishment cultivator, the corpse puppets outside were temporarily unable to stop him.

With a powerful strike, Wei Renxiao broke through the blockade and led the Violet Sun Sect members out of the Su Family Village area. But before they could celebrate, their hearts sank once more.

In the distance, they saw a rolling, ominous black fog enveloping the area. Within the fog, more corpse puppets loomed.

The members of the Violet Sun Sect were terrified beyond belief.

Wei Renxiao, despite being a mighty Foundation Establishment cultivator, felt a chill run through his body. “It’s over. We can’t escape.”

Back in Su Family Village…

“Ah Yao, do you have more leaves from the Divine Tree?” Su Yan asked Su Yao.

Su Yao didn’t dare delay. Su Mu had given her three leaves previously. She threw one of the leaves, and the dozens of strange beings approaching Su Family Village were once again obliterated.

But before the villagers could relax, Su Qing ran in with a grave expression. “Father, it’s not good. More strange beings have appeared at the village entrance…”

Before he could finish speaking, Su Zheng rushed in. “Chief, come quickly to the village entrance.”

A quarter of an hour later, the villagers stood on the bamboo tower at the village entrance. What they saw chilled them to the bone.

At the entrance, dozens of strange beings lay slain, but that was no longer the main issue. The terrifying sight was the thick black fog enveloping the area around the village. Within the fog, countless strange beings seemed to lurk.

Su Yao shared her suspicions with everyone. “These strange beings are corpse puppets. This likely means there is an evil cultivator or a demonic entity nearby. Judging by the situation, it’s probably a demonic entity.”

“A demonic entity?” Su Yan’s pupils contracted. Though his cultivation wasn’t high, he was knowledgeable enough to understand the terror of such beings.

In this new era of spiritual awakening, was it a blessing or a curse for humanity? While opportunities had increased, so had the resurgence of demons and monsters.

“What kind of demonic entity?” the others in the village asked, confused.

“There are eerie beings in this world known as ‘demonic entities,'” Su Yan explained with despair. “In all recorded history, wherever a demonic entity has appeared, it has led to the complete destruction of entire cities. Not even the largest cities with populations of hundreds of thousands have been spared from becoming hell on earth.”

Hearing this, the villagers were stricken with fear.

“If ferocious beasts can be slain, can’t we kill this demon too?” Su Qianqian asked.

“It’s useless,” Su Yan said. “It’s said that demonic entities are immortal. There was once a peak Foundation Establishment expert from the Violet Sun Sect who tried to kill a demon. In the end, the demon resurrected repeatedly and eventually wore the expert down to death.”

This revelation only deepened the villagers’ terror.

“Is there really no hope for survival?” Su Qing asked, unwilling to give up.

“Maybe there is,” Su Yan said. “Our only hope is that the demonic entity we’re facing isn’t a great demon. Some demons have smaller appetites. If this one is satisfied with devouring a few hundred people, it might leave on its own. There have been instances where some cities were spared because of this.”

“Chief, look!” Su Zheng suddenly shouted, pointing toward the black fog.

Su Yan and the others quickly looked in that direction, and their pupils constricted. Within the black fog, they could see a massive figure. It was a giant black flower that resembled a mandrake, standing at a towering height of thirty zhang.

The terrifying part was the black pollen drifting from the giant flower, slowly making its way toward Su Family Village.

They watched in horror as anything—humans, birds, beasts—that came into contact with the pollen became rigid and zombified, just like the strange beings that had attacked the village earlier.

“So that’s how these strange beings are created?”

“If we get touched by this pollen, won’t we become like them?” The villagers were overwhelmed with fear.

“We need to get inside,” Su Yan urged, unwilling to stay exposed at the village entrance, where there was little protection from the pollen.

In the Misty Territory, Su Mu couldn’t see that far, but through Su Yao’s descriptions, he grasped the situation.

“A giant black flower, three hundred feet tall, able to control other creatures through its pollen,” Su Mu mused, intrigued. “Interesting. I never expected there to be another plant as powerful as myself. But if this thing is what humans call a ‘demon,’ then what would they think of me?”

With this thought, Su Mu reached out to Su Yao for clarification.

After a moment of hesitation, Su Yao responded, “Divine Tree Master, to the uninformed, you might indeed be seen as a demon. But I know you’re different. Demons are marked by their corrupt and malevolent aura, while your aura is pure, and your power is the most sacred in the world.”

The power of demons often led to madness, transforming people into mindless killers or distorting their personalities. But the power of the Divine Tree had purified Su Yao and the villagers, enhancing their cultivation potential. This was why they were so devoted to the Divine Tree. If it were only about strength, they wouldn’t trust it so completely.

Su Mu pondered her words. From what Su Yao had said, it was clear that if humans discovered his existence, they would likely view him as a demon. This realization made him even more cautious of the humans.
