- Chapter 45 - Exterminate Them
“Good,” Su Mu said with satisfaction. “Now that a human investigation team has entered the Misty Territory, go and exterminate them.”
Lin Che’s heart tightened. “Yes!”
At the edge of the Misty Territory’s inner zone, a burly human cultivator cursed under his breath. “This place is even more treacherous than we thought.”
“I never imagined the mist here could confuse our senses.”
“Fortunately, we brought the Child-Mother Compass and reinforced the Child Compass. Otherwise, we’d be completely lost.”
The other cultivators nodded in agreement. They had only ventured twenty miles in, yet it felt like they’d been through hell.
“Alright, it’s getting dark. It’s not safe to move further. Let’s set up camp here and continue at first light,” the exploration team’s leader, a late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator, instructed.
Though he had the highest cultivation level, he wasn’t the most important member of the team. The others couldn’t help but glance toward the two young figures at the back of the group—a man and a woman from Green Hills Mansion, both with mysterious and formidable abilities.
One was at the early stage of Foundation Establishment, the other at the mid-stage. Even the exploration leader was wary of them.
The team began setting up camp in a clearing, unaware that someone was watching them from the shadows—Lin Che.
“Xiangyun…” Lin Che’s expression changed as he recognized the two geniuses from Green Hills Mansion, one of whom was a woman named Wu Xiangyun. Back when he was in Green Hills Mansion, he had feelings for her. Now, facing the task of killing her, he felt a pang of reluctance.
But that hesitation lasted less than a moment before he gritted his teeth. Before entering the Misty Territory, he had already reached the mid-stage of the Foundation Establishment, which meant he was no fool. He knew he had no way out. He had observed that the Divine Tree Master treated his own people and beasts very well, but only if they were recognized as such.
Beasts not recognized by the Divine Tree Master were killed daily. Previous groups that had entered the Misty Territory were nearly all dead. He and Huang Shuling had been lucky—somehow they had caught the Divine Tree Master’s eye and were spared.
This was the first time the Divine Tree Master had assigned him a task. If he succeeded, he might gain further trust. If not, the consequences would be dire.
“Xiangyun, you can’t blame me,” Lin Che whispered to himself. “Blame yourself for coming into the Misty Territory and stepping into the inner zone.”
As a decisive person, he acted the moment his mind was made up.
In a flash, Lin Che charged out like a wild beast. After spending months among the beasts, his combat style had become just as fierce.
“Who goes there?” The exploration team was startled, but before they could react, the killing had already begun.
“Damn it!” they cursed as they realized it was a human—a savage, dressed in tattered clothing. Some parts were patched with animal hides and leaves.
Lin Che knew how he looked. He had been in the Misty Territory for two months, and without fresh clothes, his original garments were in shreds, forcing him to cover himself with animal skins. But as a cultivator, he had long since ceased to care about such things. And now, as the killing began, he cared even less.
The battle erupted. Lin Che was incredibly strong, and in moments, several members of the investigation team were dead.
“This savage has mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivation!” The surrounding cultivators were horrified.
“But even a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator must die,” the team leader snarled, charging at Lin Che. But he underestimated Lin Che’s strength. Although Lin Che was at the mid-stage of the Foundation Establishment, his true power was equivalent to that of a late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator. His spiritual power, purified by Life Essence, gave him a foundation far stronger than that of his peers.
After exchanging a dozen blows, Lin Che had the team leader on the defensive. The others grew increasingly terrified.
“Masters, please help!” they cried, looking to Wu Xiangyun and Xiao Cheng.
“I’ll handle this,” Xiao Cheng said coldly, pulling out a talisman and slapping it onto his body. Instantly, a gust of wind enveloped him, greatly enhancing his speed. Like a phantom, he attacked Lin Che.
Boom, boom, boom…
Lin Che was overwhelmed and began to be pushed back.
“As expected of a Green Hills Mansion genius,” the Nanjing City cultivators cheered.
“You think you can beat me with speed or numbers?” Lin Che smirked.
He was never one to be overconfident. From the start, he knew he couldn’t wipe out this entire team alone.
Suddenly, a white blur shot out like lightning, directly attacking Xiao Cheng. Even with the talisman, Xiao Cheng’s speed was no match for this white blur. In seconds, Xiao Cheng was beaten black and blue. It was only then that the others realized the blur was a massive snow mink.
“Beast!” Wu Xiangyun’s eyes flashed with cold light as she pulled a green ribbon from her sleeve. It was a magical weapon. With a boom, the snow mink sensed danger and dodged just in time.
Xiao Cheng and Wu Xiangyun exchanged glances and simultaneously attacked the snow mink, intending to take it down together.
“You’re truly shameless,” the snow mink taunted, its human-like voice sending shockwaves through the minds of the Nanjing City cultivators. For them, a beast capable of speech was often a great demon.
“It’s a demon! Kill it quickly!” Wu Xiangyun shouted, but then she noticed the look of fear on Xiao Cheng’s face. She turned to see a terrifying, one-hundred-foot-long giant snake slithering toward the rest of the team. The sheer size of the creature filled her with dread.
The giant snake began attacking the investigation team, freeing up Lin Che to focus on Wu Xiangyun.
On the battlefield, the giant snake fought the team, the snow Mink clashed with Xiao Cheng, and Lin Che faced Wu Xiangyun. The two naturally engaged in battle. Lin Che, now fully committed, pounced on Wu Xiangyun with ruthless intent. His power was overwhelming, and Wu Xiangyun quickly found herself on the defensive. After half a cup of tea’s time, Lin Che had her by the throat.
At that moment, Wu Xiangyun seemed to recognize Lin Che. Her eyes widened in shock. “You… you’re… Lin Che?”
“What?”
“Lin Che, you traitor!”
“How dare you collude with demons to slaughter humans! You’ll die a horrible death!” the others cursed in fury.
