“Seek help from Nanjing City?” Sun Zhengping asked with a bitter smile. “The border between Xintian City and Nanjing City stretches for hundreds of miles. Canglan Town is just a small part of it, and Nanjing City doesn’t have the resources to care about us.”

“The Su Family village sympathizes with the Sun family’s plight, but we really can’t offer much help,” Su Qing replied.

“How can that be?” Sun Zhengping said, growing agitated. “I can tell from your aura that your clan must have a Foundation Establishment cultivator. If our families form an alliance, we can definitely stand up to the Ouyang family.”

Su Qing responded, “I won’t lie to you, Sun Zhengping. My father was seriously injured a long time ago and hasn’t recovered. He’s not in any condition to fight. Besides, this matter is too significant for our village to decide on hastily. I’ll need to discuss it with the others first. Please take the Vermilion Fruit back.”

“A gift once given cannot be taken back,” Sun Zhengping insisted. “Regardless of whether our families form an alliance, the Vermilion Fruit is now yours.”

With that, he left with a mixture of disappointment and helplessness.

As soon as Sun Zhengping departed, Su Yan and Su Qianqian came out from behind the scenes.

Looking at the Vermilion Fruit on the table, Su Qianqian remarked, “The Sun family certainly has courage.”

“Father, Sister, should we form an alliance with the Sun family?” Su Qing asked.

“An alliance is inevitable,” Su Yan said calmly.

“An alliance?” Su Qing was shocked. “But Father, the Ouyang family has two Foundation Establishment cultivators!”

“Yes, the Ouyang family does have two Foundation Establishment cultivators. But we must consider one thing,” Su Yan said. “If the Sun family is destroyed, where do you think the Ouyang family will turn their attention next?”

Su Qing felt a chill run through him. “It would be the Su Family village.”

“Exactly,” Su Yan continued. “So, in reality, we have no choice. Even though we may not want to, in a way, our fates are already tied to the Sun family’s. However, you’re also right—we can’t confront the Ouyang family head-on. We must remain hidden and bide our time.”

“What should we do, then?” Su Qing asked.

Instead of answering, Su Yan looked at Su Qianqian. “Qianqian, what do you think?”

“We can provide logistical support to the Sun family,” Su Qianqian suggested. “With the Misty Territory backing us, we have access to abundant forest resources and can fully support the Sun family.”

Canglan Town

Sun Family Residence

Sun Sidao looked utterly exhausted. The Sun family’s recent troubles had drained him mentally and physically.

In front of him stood Sun Zhengping and his older brother, Sun Wuyi.

“What do you think of the Su family’s response?” Sun Sidao asked.

The Su Family village had sent their decision through a messenger pigeon.

“The Su family has played their cards well,” Sun Wuyi said angrily. “They want us to bear the brunt of the Ouyang family’s attacks while they profit by selling resources to us. Father, the Su Family village is just a small village with less than two thousand people. Why don’t we take them out first and use the Ancient Wilderness Mountain Range as our stronghold to fight the Ouyang family?”

“That’s not an option,” Sun Zhengping quickly interjected. “No matter what, the Su family has a Foundation Establishment cultivator. If we force them into a desperate situation, we’ll suffer significant losses. Normally, that wouldn’t be a big deal, but right now, we have to focus on the Ouyang family. We can’t afford any trouble in our rear.”

Sun Wuyi frowned, unable to find a counterargument.

“Let’s proceed as they suggested,” Sun Sidao decided. “For now, we need to hold off the Ouyang family. After this crisis is over, we’ll revisit the matter of the Su Family village. Zhengping, you’ll handle the negotiations.”

“Yes, Father,” Sun Zhengping replied, looking pleased.

Sun Wuyi, however, was clearly unhappy with the decision.

Deep within the Misty Territory

Strange figures flitted through the mist.

These figures were composed of mist, and their bodies resembled skeletons.

As they moved, they attacked nearby trees.

Crack, crack…

The trees they struck all splintered and fell.

Lin Che and Huang Shuling were stunned by the scene before them.

The power of these Mist Skeletons was terrifying, likely on par with Foundation Establishment cultivators.

What was even more frightening was that they counted thirteen of these Mist Skeletons.

These skeletons were the creation of Su Mu.

He had originally intended to create human-shaped mist beings, but his abilities were limited, resulting in these skeletal forms.

This was the power of the fifth-tier Power of Mist.

With the upgrade to the fifth tier, Su Mu’s control over the mist had increased significantly.

Not only could the Mist Phantom Eye appear more lifelike, but he could now also create beings capable of real attacks.

Moreover, these Mist Skeletons were not ephemeral.

They were like an independent race. As long as Su Mu’s Power of Mist remained at the fifth tier, they could exist indefinitely.

However, they lacked intelligence.

“This can help further conceal my presence,” Su Mu thought.

He had always been cautious.

Even though the world’s spirit beasts were growing stronger, humanity still held the advantage.

After all, humanity had managed to dominate the world despite facing opposition from many different races.

But the Misty Territory would remain a forbidden zone for humanity.

Should they venture into it, they would discover the terrifying Mist Skeletons within.

“I’m starting to feel more and more like a villain,” Su Mu mused wryly.

Skeletons were the very embodiment of evil cultivators.

It was easy to imagine that in the future, the Misty Territory would be seen as a “demonic land” in the eyes of humanity.

“Reputation doesn’t matter. Power is what’s truly important,” Su Mu quickly reminded himself.

As long as his strength continued to grow, he didn’t care about his reputation.

After a while, Su Mu decided to further test the strength of his Mist Skeletons.

Hiss…

The White Spirit Python was sleeping when it suddenly sensed something and abruptly raised its head.

It immediately became furious.

Not far away, a strange misty skeleton was staring at it.

The White Spirit Python lunged at the Mist Skeleton.

A fierce battle ensued.

Boom!

The two collided, sending shockwaves in all directions.

Both the White Spirit Python and the Mist Skeleton were knocked back several dozen feet.

In this exchange, the White Spirit Python held a slight advantage, but it wasn’t significant.

After a few more moments, the White Spirit Python finally shattered the Mist Skeleton with a powerful tail strike.

But to its surprise, the Mist Skeleton reformed a thousand feet away almost instantly.

The White Spirit Python was dumbfounded.

“Hahaha, what a foolish snake,” Su Mu thought with amusement, deciding to stop teasing it.

He sent a mental command to the White Spirit Python, revealing the truth.

The White Spirit Python was furious but helpless and decided to go underground to dig out its frustrations.

“Divine Tree Master, these skeletons are your creations, aren’t they?” Huang Shuling couldn’t help but ask.

“Yes,” Su Mu confirmed.

“If they’re your creations, how can they exist independently?” Huang Shuling asked, puzzled.

“Because these skeletons contain the Divine Tree Lord’s mental power,” Su Qianqian said, appearing suddenly. “It’s the mental power that keeps their misty forms from dissipating.”

“Did the Divine Tree Lord intentionally imbue them with mental power?” Huang Shuling asked in astonishment.
