- Chapter 34 - Su Yan Enters the Mountains
“Everyone who hears this news is curious, wondering whether the Black-Bellied Sand Lizard is truly dead,” Su Yao said.
Su Mu was equally unsure about this. The fact that such a creature could be blasted into obscurity by a human artifact made him more cautious.
It seemed that he needed to remain low-profile, avoiding any unnecessary attention.
It was fortunate that his soul was human. If he were another kind of monster with his current power, he might not have been able to resist declaring war on the human race.
After all, humans occupied such vast territories.
“What other monsters do is not our concern,” Su Mu said. “Our priority is to remain low-key and continue developing ourselves.”
Su Yao was intrigued. “What have you been working on lately, Divine Tree?”
“I’m building an underground kingdom,” Su Mu explained. “Humans have powerful formations. If I make too much noise on the surface, it would be easy for them to discover me. So, I’m constructing a kingdom underground.”
“Building a kingdom…” Su Yao was stirred by the idea. “Divine Tree, you should have done this long ago.”
In her eyes, with the Divine Tree’s abilities and power, not creating a kingdom was a waste.
“That’s easier said than done,” Su Mu replied. “Building an underground kingdom is no easy task.”
Even with Earth Fiend Transformation, creating the current underground space had been quite labor-intensive.
Su Yao smiled slightly. “Divine Tree, why should you handle everything yourself?”
“Oh?” Su Mu was intrigued.
Su Yao’s words sparked a new idea in his mind.
For example, the White Spirit Python was adept at digging tunnels and could certainly be put to use.
However, while the White Spirit Python was skilled at burrowing, it was still just one creature. Relying on it alone to build a large underground world was unrealistic.
“Divine Tree, you could raise a group of marmots. They are experts at digging,” Su Yao suggested.
Marmots, also known as “groundhogs,” are indeed excellent diggers.
Su Mu, however, sighed. “I know of the marmot’s abilities, but there are none in this forest.”
“That’s easy to solve,” Su Yao said. “There are many places in the human markets where you can buy marmots. I’ll purchase a batch for you and have them delivered to Su Family Village. Then, the villagers can bring them to you.”
Su Mu was delighted. If Su Yao could do that, it would solve a significant problem for him.
That very day, Su Yao bought a hundred marmots. No one questioned her motives since buying animals for magical experiments was quite common in the cultivation world.
She then had them sent to Su Family Village.
Three days later, the marmots arrived at Su Family Village.
“Just send them into the Misty Forbidden Zone,” Su Mu conveyed to Su Qianqian through a mental message.
“Yes, Divine Tree,” Su Qianqian and the other four villagers who knew of Su Mu’s existence promptly brought the marmots into the Misty Forbidden Zone.
Su Mu then had his spirit beasts gather the marmots and bring them to him.
These marmots were ordinary creatures, so their efficiency at digging would be limited.
“Right now, I can condense about three drops of Life Essence daily without affecting my growth,” Su Mu thought. “So, I’ll transform three marmots into spirit beasts each day.”
Once transformed, their efficiency at digging would significantly increase.
Just imagine a hundred spirit marmots digging—what a sight that would be!
During this period, another event occurred in Su Family Village.
“Luo’er, are you sure?” Su Yan asked seriously.
When Su Mu sent the five villagers back to Su Family Village, Su Luo was one of them. After being modified by the Life Essence, her talent, while not as exceptional as Su Yao’s or Su Qianqian’s, was still quite remarkable.
Zhao Xueqing favored Su Qianqian more, intending to take both Su Qianqian and Su Luo to the Violet Sun Sect. But Su Qianqian didn’t want to go, so Zhao Xueqing could only take Su Luo.
Naturally, Zhao Xueqing wasn’t upset by this. She was still quite pleased since Su Luo was also a promising candidate.
“Grandfather,” Su Luo said, “This is the golden age of cultivation. Sister Yao’er has already gone to Green Hills Mansion. I also want to pursue my path in the Violet Sun Sect.”
“Very well,” Su Yan nodded. “Since you’ve made your decision, your grandfather will support you.”
That afternoon, Zhao Xueqing returned.
“Su Luo, have you made your decision?” Zhao Xueqing asked.
“I am willing to go with you to the Violet Sun Sect,” Su Luo replied.
“Excellent,” Zhao Xueqing smiled. Taking Su Luo not only secured a talented disciple but also placed a bet on Su Family Village, a win-win situation.
“Su Luo, I am taking you in as my disciple on behalf of my master. From now on, you are my junior sister,” Zhao Xueqing said. “Say your final goodbyes to your family, and then we’ll set off.”
Su Luo’s beautiful eyes filled with tears. When the moment of departure came, she felt a strong sense of reluctance.
But parting was inevitable.
A quarter of an hour later, Su Luo reluctantly bade farewell to the villagers of Su Family Village and left with Zhao Xueqing.
Su Luo’s departure left the villagers feeling somewhat downcast. However, life had to go on.
“Qianqian, have you completed the population count?” Su Yan asked.
After defeating the three other villages, Su Family Village had absorbed their populations.
Now, Su Family Village had become the dominant village in the surrounding area.
“It’s done,” Su Qianqian replied. “We now have 320 households and a population of 1,835.”
“Good,” Su Yan said enthusiastically. “If Su Family Village is to develop, we can’t be complacent. We must bring in new villagers from outside.”
At its peak, Su Family Village had only about 600 people. After Su Ming and Su Tao betrayed the village, only 18 people were left.
Now, with the population swelling to over 1,830, Su Yan felt a great sense of accomplishment.
“Father, you’re absolutely right,” Su Qianqian agreed.
“We need to continue strengthening the management and control of the village,” Su Yan said. “By the way, Qianqian, you mentioned earlier that you had something to tell me after Zhao Xueqing left. What is it?”
“I want to take you to the Misty Forbidden Zone,” Su Qianqian said seriously.
She intended to take Su Yan to meet Su Mu, which was something Su Mu had instructed.
Su Family Village’s affairs couldn’t be handled without Su Yan, the village chief and patriarch.
Therefore, bringing Su Yan under Su Mu’s control had become an urgent matter.
Su Yan’s expression shifted as if he sensed something.
He thought of Su Yao, Su Qianqian, Su Luo, Su Qing, and Su Zheng.
“Very well,” Su Yan said, not asking any further questions. He nodded in agreement.
Su Qianqian then led Su Yan into the Misty Forbidden Zone.
Before the mist appeared, Su Yan had often entered the Ancient Wilderness Mountains.
But after the mist’s appearance, this was his first time stepping into the area.
As he looked at the mist-shrouded forest ahead, Su Yan, a seasoned mountain man, couldn’t help but feel a bit tense.
If it weren’t for his trust in Su Qianqian, he would never have ventured into such a place.
To his surprise, their journey was completely unhindered.
Occasionally, they encountered wild beasts that attacked them.
