Three miles away, a small lake came into view for the Green Hills Mansion disciples.

What shocked them was the sight of hundreds of wild beasts gathered around the lake.

Among them were several spirit beasts.

“Gulp…”

A few Green Hills Mansion disciples couldn’t help but swallow nervously.

If Li Fuyuan weren’t with them, they might have started trembling with fear.

However, the beasts by the lake merely stared at them and made no move to attack.

“Who would have thought there would be so many spirit beasts in this Misty Forbidden Zone?” Li Fuyuan’s eyes glinted coldly.

Once he returned, he would definitely mobilize elite forces to exterminate these spirit beasts.

After all, to the human race, spirit beasts were valuable treasures.

Their fur could be used to craft magical robes and talismans, their blood and flesh could enhance vitality, and their bones could be used in artifact refining and alchemy…

So, the small lake before him was nothing short of a treasure trove in his eyes.

“Continue forward,” Li Fuyuan ordered, a flash of determination in his eyes.

He sensed that this was not the core of the Misty Forbidden Zone.

Deeper within, he could feel even stronger fluctuations of spiritual energy.

Thanks to the docility of the spirit beasts here, they could advance without having to fight, making the journey much easier.

“Caw, caw, caw…”

It wasn’t long before the group heard the cry of crows.

When they looked up, they were immediately filled with dread.

Ten enormous crows were flying overhead.

Each crow was five feet long, roughly the size of a human teenager.

It was an intimidating sight.

“Supreme-grade first-tier!”

Li Fuyuan’s face grew serious.

The aura emanating from these ten giant crows was unmistakably that of supreme-grade first-tier beings.

“This is bad!”

In that instant, Li Fuyuan had a sinking feeling.

“Are the people in Nanjing City just incompetent?”

Just the ten supreme-grade first-tier spirit crows, combined with the spirit beasts by the lake, gave a spiritual energy reading easily equal to 9,000 jie.

How could the spiritual energy in this Misty Forbidden Zone only be rated at 9,000 jie?

Before he could think further, a disciple beside him stammered, “S-snake…”

Li Fuyuan was about to scold the disciple for being overly dramatic—after all, what was there to fear about a snake?

But then his own pupils constricted.

Ordinary pythons, or even regular spirit pythons, were nothing to worry about.

But what came into view was a massive creature, eighty feet long, a sight that was overwhelmingly impactful.

“Supreme-grade first-tier.”

Li Fuyuan’s heart skipped a beat.

The aura from this giant python was also at the supreme-grade first-tier.

“Retreat.”

Li Fuyuan no longer had any interest in exploring this place.

Earlier, he had been determined to find the true culprit behind Junior Nephew He’s death and bring them to justice.

But now, all he wanted was to preserve his own life.

He was a Foundation Establishment cultivator.

But if all these supreme-grade first-tier spirit beasts attacked at once, even he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Yet, Li Fuyuan had underestimated the situation.

As soon as he turned around, he was met with another enormous creature.

It was a thirty-foot-tall Ironback Ape.

The Ironback Ape grinned, revealing two rows of sharp teeth, as if mocking them.

And just 1000 feet away from the Ironback Ape, a white mink appeared.

Though smaller in comparison, only six feet long, it was no less intimidating.

Despite its size, other wild beasts gave it a wide berth, indicating that this white mink was no less dangerous than the python or the ape—perhaps even more so.

Another supreme-grade first-tier!

Li Fuyuan’s heart pounded with fear.

9,000 jie of spiritual energy?

Nanjing City had misled him.

With so many supreme-grade first-tier spirit beasts, the spiritual energy here had to be at least 15,000 jie.

The giant python, Ironback Ape, white mink, and the crows began to press the Green Hills Mansion disciples, driving them deeper into the Misty Forbidden Zone.

Li Fuyuan didn’t dare make a rash move and could only continue retreating.

They retreated for four miles before the group from Green Hills Mansion came to a halt.

They seemed to sense something and all turned their gazes forward.

Amid the ancient forest, countless towering trees stood.

But one tree caught their attention—a Ginkgo tree.

This Ginkgo tree wasn’t the tallest tree in the forest.

The tallest tree was a towering almond eucalyptus, standing 500 feet tall.

The Ginkgo tree, in contrast, was about 380 feet tall.

However, this Ginkgo tree was anything but ordinary. Its bark and leaves were unlike any other tree. Ordinary Ginkgo trees had dry, rough bark.

But this Ginkgo tree’s bark appeared as if it were made of bronze.

Its leaves looked as if they were carved from precious jade.

The impression it gave was that of a divine tree.

The Green Hills Mansion disciples were all struck with awe.

“Quick, send out a signal!”

Li Fuyuan reacted quickly, shouting at the top of his lungs.

Something was wrong—terribly wrong.

Especially with this Ginkgo tree before them.

From his experience, this Ginkgo tree was undoubtedly a spirit.

But that alone wasn’t enough to terrify him.

What sent chills down his spine was the way all the spirit beasts around them looked at the Ginkgo tree—as if they were gazing at a deity.

His first instinct wasn’t to run, but to call for help.

He had a feeling that on his own, he wouldn’t be able to escape.

But despair quickly set in for Li Fuyuan.

The signal talisman they sent out was blocked by the white mist in the sky.

“I’ll stay behind to cover you. Run!”

Li Fuyuan yelled to the other Green Hills Mansion disciples.

The disciples were bewildered, still not understanding what was happening.

To them, the situation seemed strange, but with Li Fuyuan’s strength, shouldn’t he be able to handle it?

Why was he suddenly urging them to flee, and with such a tone of desperation?

“Run, all of you, run…”

Li Fuyuan roared.

At that moment, the ground began to tremble.

Then, countless roots burst out of the earth like lightning.

Thud, thud, thud…

The Green Hills Mansion disciples were caught off guard and were effortlessly slaughtered by the roots.

Su Mu had no intention of letting any of the Green Hills Mansion members leave.

Though he was reluctant to kill humans, allowing them to return would pose too great a threat to him.

“Demon!”

Li Fuyuan’s eyes turned bloodshot.

Buzz!

He drew a wooden sword from his back and spat blood onto it.

In an instant, the wooden sword flew towards the trunk of the Ginkgo tree.

But before it could even get close, several branches swept in from the sides and knocked the sword away.

Li Fuyuan’s pupils contracted further in terror.

Splat!

The next moment, a branch, sharp as a sword, pierced through his skull.

Li Fuyuan was undoubtedly a powerful cultivator.

As a Foundation Establishment cultivator, he could easily command respect anywhere.

But he had encountered Su Mu, who was now at the third tier.

A third-tier spirit being was equivalent to a human Golden Core expert.

Killing a Foundation Establishment cultivator was hardly a challenge.

In the blink of an eye, all twenty Green Hills Mansion disciples were dead.

Without being able to send out a distress signal, they died in utter silence.

Thud, thud, thud…

The five villagers from Su Family Village fell to their knees, their legs trembling as they shook uncontrollably.

These were experts from Green Hills Mansion.

Such individuals were akin to immortals in their eyes.

And yet, twenty such immortals were slaughtered in the blink of an eye by the Ginkgo tree before them?

Just what kind of existence was this Ginkgo tree?
