Unbeknownst to him, twenty days had passed.

All of the leaves on Su Mu’s body had completed their spirit infusion.

His height had also increased from the initial thirty feet to forty feet.

However, within this ancient forest, he was still quite unremarkable.

[Species: Spirit Ginkgo]
[Height: 40 feet]
[Lifespan: 5 years]
[Abilities: 500 Spirit-Infused Leaves]

Buzz!

A swarm of bees flew by.

In an instant, 500 leaves were swept out simultaneously.

It was as if a net had been cast over the area.

The entire swarm of bees was obliterated in a moment, without exception.

Su Mu’s lifespan increased by five years.

“A small gain,” Su Mu thought with some satisfaction.

Moments later, he focused on a nearby bamboo plant. The bamboo instantly shattered into countless pieces.

This further confirmed Su Mu’s current strength.

“However, it seems that the insects and birds around here have become aware of the danger in my vicinity.”

After a while, Su Mu began to worry, “The number of insects and birds I can hunt is decreasing.”

“Caw, caw, caw…”

A series of noisy, amusing calls rang out.

Su Mu paused in thought.

Extending his awareness, he saw that the eggs in the crows’ nest had hatched into young crows.

As soon as the baby crows were born, they opened their mouths, crying loudly, clearly eager to be fed. But what Su Mu didn’t expect was that the male crow that had left earlier in the morning did not return.

This made Su Mu vaguely aware of something.

The female crow also seemed to sense something amiss and flew out of the nest to search for the male crow.

Half a day later.

The female crow returned with a bunch of insects but was covered in blood, barely alive.

After feeding the insects to the young crows, the female crow fell from the nest to the ground, lifeless.

Su Mu was stunned once again.

He hunted many insects and birds daily.

However, his attacks were so fierce that these insects and birds were always reduced to a mist of blood.

Thus, the two adult crows still had to go out hunting every day.

Previously, Su Mu hadn’t paid much attention to this.

After all, hunting was a normal activity for crows in his view.

But he never expected that one day, the two adult crows would die one after the other.

“Forget it,” Su Mu sighed.

Given the situation, without his protection, these ten baby crows would surely die.

Su Mu had watched them hatch, and he had developed a bit of affection for them.

From then on, Su Mu deliberately controlled his attacks to avoid destroying the bodies of the prey.

These carcasses became food for the baby crows.

Sometimes, when the baby crows played and nearly fell out of the nest, Su Mu would intervene in time to keep them safe.

During this process, the baby crows seemed to grow increasingly fond of Su Mu.

Whenever Su Mu’s leaves approached, they would snuggle up to them, as if recognizing Su Mu as their caretaker.

One day, another bird flew over.

It was a cuckoo.

The cuckoo had a baby cuckoo in its beak.

Su Mu had to admit, the cuckoo’s appearance was quite pleasing to his aesthetic sense.

But to Su Mu’s surprise, the cuckoo didn’t build its own nest. Instead, it placed the baby cuckoo into the crows’ nest.

The baby cuckoo then forcibly pushed one of the baby crows out of the nest.

The baby crow fell from the tree and would have certainly died if Su Mu hadn’t intervened in time.

This scene made Su Mu dislike the cuckoo.

The cuckoo then brought two more baby cuckoos and placed them in the crows’ nest as well.

Again, two more baby crows almost suffered the same fate.

At this point, Su Mu realized that this wasn’t a coincidence.

These cuckoos were truly despicable.

If the cuckoos had been of better character, Su Mu wouldn’t have minded raising a few more birds.

But given their behavior, it was clear that raising them would only result in ungrateful creatures. Especially since the adult cuckoo, instead of stopping the baby cuckoos, flew directly into the crows’ nest itself.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…

Su Mu showed no mercy, killing all the cuckoos on the spot.

Another batch of lifespan was added to his account.

At this time, Su Mu had not yet noticed the two figures appearing several miles away.

These were two young men with strong builds, wearing ancient-style clothing and carrying longbows on their backs.

“Hunting is getting harder; it’s like the animals in this mountain are becoming smarter.”

“This place is close to Su Family Village. Our Zhang Family Village has always had conflicts with them, so we’d better be cautious.”

“There’s a spring up ahead. Let’s drink some water before heading back.”

The two young men spoke.

“Is someone talking?”

The voices of the two young men reached Su Mu’s consciousness, and he was momentarily stunned.

Then, his mind began to stir involuntarily.

Humans!

After nearly a month in this strange world, he was finally encountering humans.

Three miles away, there was a clear spring. The voices seemed to be coming from that direction.

Su Mu quickly extended his awareness over there. Sure enough, he saw two human men.

Just as Su Mu was pondering whether to make contact with them, his mind suddenly shook. He saw a large white shadow lurking at the intersection of the spring and the forest.

The two young men seemed to sense something as well.

Just as they turned their heads, a terrifying monster lunged at them.

It was a fifty-foot-long albino python.

The two young men had no time to react before they were swallowed whole by the giant python.

At that moment, Su Mu was also filled with fear, not daring to make the slightest movement, obediently pretending to be an ordinary ginkgo tree.

The giant python was as thick as a water barrel; one strike of its tail could easily snap him in half.

After devouring the two young men, the python slithered away, seemingly satisfied.

Su Mu didn’t dare move until the python was far away. Only then did he secretly breathe a sigh of relief.

“Luckily, it seems that the python was just passing through.”

If that hadn’t been the case, his future growth could have been severely disrupted.

Afterward, Su Mu’s days continued in the same monotonous routine.

He kept hunting insects and birds to increase his lifespan.

A day later.

He had gained another 15 years of lifespan.

“Now that all my leaves have completed spirit infusion, it’s time to spirit-infuse my roots.”

Su Mu hadn’t forgotten that the roots are the foundation of a tree.

He hadn’t rushed to infuse his roots earlier because it required more lifespan than infusing leaves.

Spirit-infusing a single leaf required one year of lifespan.

However, infusing a single root required 15 years of lifespan.

Without hesitation, Su Mu channeled his lifespan into one of his fibrous roots.

His roots were divided into main roots and fibrous roots.

There were three main roots.

There were 100 fibrous roots.

15 years of lifespan wasn’t enough to infuse a main root, so Su Mu focused on a fibrous root.

Infusing a root wasn’t as easy as infusing a leaf.

During the infusion process, Su Mu felt a sharp pain.

Fortunately, the pain was bearable.

The infused fibrous root became significantly sturdier and extended much deeper into the ground.

His fibrous roots were usually about a foot long.

Now, this spirit-infused root had grown to three feet.

From then on, Su Mu concentrated on spirit-infusing his roots.

Another month passed in the blink of an eye.

One day, humans appeared in the forest again.

This time, it was three young girls.

They, like the two young men before them, were dressed in ancient-style clothing, with wooden hairpins in their hair.

They had the typical appearance of ancient maidens.

Even though they weren’t particularly adorned, they still looked fresh and beautiful.

“Sister Qin, you really know your way around, sneaking us into the mountains like this.”

“The village chief is too strict. Whenever we try to enter the mountains, we get scolded. They say the world is changing, and the mountains are dangerous.”

“There’s definitely something different lately. There’ve been more wild animal attacks. My third uncle next door went hunting in the mountains two months ago and hasn’t been seen since.”

The voices of the three girls were melodious.

As they spoke, they arrived at a clear spring.

“The water here is so clear.”

“Sure, we can use well water to bathe, but it never feels as good as bathing in this spring water.” The girls smiled brightly.

“But the mountains have been strange lately. We won’t run into anything, will we?” One of the girls, with a youthful face but a well-developed chest, asked nervously.

“What could happen?”

Su Qin scoffed, “We’ve been here many times. This is one of the safest places in the Ancient Wilderness.”

“Honestly, Sister Yao, you’re such a scaredy-cat.”

Another girl teased with a laugh.

As she spoke, she was the first to take off her clothes and leap into the clear spring.

Su Qin followed right behind.

Seeing her two older sisters in the water, Su Yao bit her lip and decided to join them, putting her worries aside.

At that moment, Su Mu had just finished feeding the baby crows.

“More people?”

Su Mu extended his awareness and was stunned by what he saw.

The voices were coming from the direction of the spring again.

This time, however, there were three dazzlingly fair-skinned mermaids swimming in the spring.

Su Mu felt a bit regretful.

He was just a tree; no matter how beautiful the sight, there was nothing he could do.

Of course, even though he couldn’t act on it, it didn’t stop him from enjoying the view.

“Should I try to make contact with them?” Su Mu hesitated. As a former human, he naturally longed for human interaction. He hadn’t had the chance to connect with the two men before the giant python devoured them. Now he had another opportunity.

But in the end, he decided against it.

Precisely because he was once human, he was all too aware of human nature.

If humans discovered he had intelligence, there was no telling what they might do.

They might even dig him up for medicinal purposes.

Until he had enough strength and a deeper understanding of this world, he needed to remain a low-profile tree.

“I hope these three girls don’t encounter that python.” Su Mu secretly worried for them. Fortunately, the three girls were lucky; the python didn’t reappear.

Eventually, the three young girls left after playing in the spring for half an hour.

Su Mu did nothing.

After they left, Su Mu reflected on what he had observed.

The people he had seen so far were all dressed in ancient clothing, leading him to conclude that this world was likely in a feudal era.

With that thought, Su Mu put the matter aside.

He continued to hunt insects and birds to increase his lifespan and infuse his roots.

Another month passed in the blink of an eye.

Su Mu finally completed the spirit infusion of all his fibrous roots.

[Species: Spirit Ginkgo]
[Height: 50 feet]
[Lifespan: 5 years]
[Abilities: 500 Spirit-Infused Leaves, 100 Spirit-Infused Fibrous Roots]

Su Mu was very satisfied with the result.

“Caw, caw, caw…”

Around him, the ten baby crows had learned to fly and circled around him, cawing incessantly.

Roar!

A roar echoed into Su Mu’s awareness.

The next moment, Su Mu saw a wild boar charging in his direction.

Su Mu wasn’t sure if it was the same wild boar he had seen when he first awakened.
