“I have to admit, I am very pleased with your flattery,” the Ironback Ape grinned, “but that doesn’t mean I’ll let you off.”

As it spoke, the Ironback Ape stomped on the ground with its shoulder. The earth split open as the Ironback Ape leaped several dozen feet into the air, swinging its copper staff down toward Yu Luojun.

The copper staff was a trophy from the campaign against Nanzhao Kingdom. Although it wasn’t a particularly powerful magical weapon, its material was incredibly sturdy, and the Ironback Ape found it quite handy.

Yu Luojun’s eyes narrowed, and he quickly raised his sword to block.

Clang!

The staff and sword collided. Yu Luojun felt a powerful force surge through his arms, causing his hands to crack and his arms to go numb. The Ironback Ape’s greatest strength was its raw power, thanks to its innate “Mighty Force.”

Although Yu Luojun, as the master of the Eastern River Sect, was no weakling and was at the peak of the Golden Core stage — equivalent to the third-tier supreme grade among the demons — his strength clearly fell short against the Ironback Ape.

“Xu Chengfeng, if you don’t act now, when will you?” Yu Luojun urged, feeling the pressure mount.

“Heh, Yu Luojun, it seems your strength isn’t what it used to be,” Xu Chengfeng shot out like the wind, clearly planning to join forces with Yu Luojun to surround and attack the Ironback Ape.

“Trying to gang up on me?” The Ironback Ape smirked.

This was the Ancient Wilderness, the territory of the Misty Forbidden Zone. These people actually thought they could surround him here? What a joke.

Roar!

A bear’s roar echoed as the Earthquake Bear descended from the sky, wielding a heavy hammer it had obtained from the Nanzhao Kingdom, and swung it fiercely toward Xu Chengfeng’s back.

Xu Chengfeng was not an ordinary opponent, and in that critical moment, he reacted swiftly.

“Xuan Wind Shield!” A glimmer of light emerged from Xu Chengfeng’s body, transforming into a black-gold shield that blocked the hammer blow.

Clang!

The Earthquake Bear’s hammer struck the Xuan Wind Shield, sending Xu Chengfeng flying.

“A fourth-tier demon beast!” Yu Luojun’s expression changed dramatically.

“Your opponent is me; you can’t afford to be distracted,” the Ironback Ape sneered.

“Human, you’re a sect master, yet this is all you’ve got?” The Earthquake Bear mocked, charging toward Xu Chengfeng with heavy steps, hammering away relentlessly. Xu Chengfeng was forced to retreat, looking increasingly bedraggled.

After dozens of exchanges, Xu Chengfeng was on the brink of defeat. At that moment, a black-gold light flickered deep in Xu Chengfeng’s eyes.

Roar!

Then he let out a bestial roar. His body began to grow, and black-gold scales emerged on his skin. In just a few moments, Xu Chengfeng had transformed into a ten-foot-tall black-gold humanoid monster with a tail extending from his back.

“Is he a flood dragon or a human?” The Earthquake Bear looked puzzled.

“He’s human, but he’s fused with flood dragon blood,” the Ironback Ape snorted.

The Earthquake Bear immediately understood. They had encountered such beings before. The first few teams sent by the Great Xia to investigate the Misty Forbidden Zone had been composed of people like this. Humans seemed to call them “Demon Cultivators.”

“But his aura is much purer than the demon cultivators we’ve encountered before. It seems that over the past year, humans have made significant progress in this area of research,” the Ironback Ape commented.

While the two demon beasts spoke, Xu Chengfeng had already approached the Earthquake Bear.

“Beast, your death is at hand,” Xu Chengfeng sneered, his expression ferocious.

The Earthquake Bear swung its hammer toward Xu Chengfeng, but he forcefully met the blow head-on.

Bang!

The Earthquake Bear was sent flying over a hundred feet.

After transforming into a demon, Xu Chengfeng’s strength had reached the middle of the fourth tier.

“Xu Chengfeng, so you have taken this wicked path,” Yu Luojun shouted from not far away.

“Wicked path?” Xu Chengfeng sneered. “The era of great contention has arrived. We must use any means necessary to strengthen ourselves and seize opportunities. As long as we gain enough fortune, even the side effects of becoming a demon cultivator can be mitigated. For instance, if I hadn’t become a demon cultivator, how would we stand a chance against these two great demons today?”

Boom, boom, boom!

Xu Chengfeng’s aura surged, and he began to fight both the Earthquake Bear and the Ironback Ape simultaneously. Both the Earthquake Bear and the Ironback Ape started to fall back.

“The Misty Forbidden Zone has quite the reputation, but I see it’s not all that impressive,” Xu Chengfeng taunted, feeling increasingly confident and exhilarated as he fought.

“The humans’ methods are indeed impressive,” a calm voice rang out.

“Phantom Snow!” The Earthquake Bear and Ironback Ape looked delighted.

Descending before them was a snow-white mink, the Snow Spirit Mink.

The Snow Spirit Mink was a fourth-tier lower grade demon beast like the Earthquake Bear, but its strength far surpassed it.

Whoosh!

In an instant, the Snow Spirit Mink turned into a white blur, darting toward Xu Chengfeng like lightning.

Boom!

Xu Chengfeng didn’t even have time to react before being struck by a massive ice monument that had formed out of thin air. He was sent flying over a hundred feet.

“The humans’ methods are indeed impressive, but that is no reason to underestimate the Misty Forbidden Zone,” the Snow Spirit Mink remarked, moving faster and faster. Xu Chengfeng became nothing more than a punching bag.

Half a tea’s time later, Xu Chengfeng was thoroughly defeated.

Whoosh!

Seeing the situation was unfavorable, he immediately chose to flee.

Yu Luojun, sensing the situation had turned against them, also decided to retreat.

After escaping barely ten miles, they ran into the disciples of the Eastern River Sect and Golden Sand Sect who were waiting behind.

“Block them!” Xu Chengfeng and Yu Luojun shouted in unison.

The disciples of Eastern River Sect and Golden Sand Sect, unaware of the true danger, instinctively charged forward upon hearing the orders of their sect master and leader.

What awaited them was undoubtedly a nightmare.

But Xu Chengfeng and Yu Luojun used this opportunity to make their escape.

The situation faced by the Eastern River Sect and Golden Sand Sect was just a microcosm of the chaos unfolding within the Ancient Wilderness.

The various forces of the Great Xia wanted to unite to annihilate the Misty Forbidden Zone, but they quickly realized how terrifying it truly was.

Compared to its reputation, the Misty Forbidden Zone was even more formidable.

The White Spirit Python, the Shadow Beetle, the Purple-Gold Mosquito, Huang Shuling, Lin Che, and the Spirit Crows all led sorties. All of them were at least at the third-tier supreme grade or at the peak of the Golden Core stage. At sea, the Mermaid and the Sea Monk also made the human forces tremble.

Under the fierce counterattack of the Misty Army, the human forces not only failed to suppress the Misty Forbidden Zone but found themselves in utter disarray.

At this moment, the human forces were still unaware that the true elites of the Misty Forbidden Zone had yet to make their move, such as the Silvermoon Wolf King, Bai Qianzhang, and the Water Buffalo.

“How can the Misty Forbidden Zone be this terrifying?”

“I didn’t believe it before, but now it seems true that the Misty Forbidden Zone really did destroy the Nanzhao Kingdom.”

“With the power to destroy nations, is this still just a forbidden zone?”

The human forces trembled.

While the human forces battled the Misty Army, a lone figure walked through the swamp.

If any of the Great Xia’s cultivators were here, they would recognize this figure as Su Yao, the Prime Minister Deputy and the Vice Master of the Heaven and Earth Pavilion.

The creatures of the Misty Forbidden Zone would also recognize her as their leader, Su Yao.

Finally, Su Yao stopped beside a black lotus.

This black lotus appeared extremely sinister, emitting an aura far stronger than the surrounding white peonies.

“I know you probably don’t trust me,” Su Yao said, “but this time, I’ve come to see you on behalf of a great being.”

As she spoke, she took out a silver ginkgo leaf.

This ginkgo leaf was, of course, from Su Mu.

The moment Su Yao produced the leaf, the swamp around the black lotus began to ripple.

“You’re saying that the great being is a plant like me?” A slightly immature female voice sounded after a moment.

The voice sounded like that of a three-year-old girl.

Su Yao’s eyes flickered with surprise. “You’ve truly awakened spiritual intelligence?”

“What is spiritual intelligence?” the childish voice asked.

“Spiritual intelligence means the ability to think,” Su Yao smiled faintly but then cautioned, “I know you have extraordinary abilities, even being able to control other people’s souls. But the human race is not as simple as you think. You are in great danger right now and must leave this place…”

Before she could finish her sentence, Su Yao’s expression became serious, sensing other beings approaching. She quickly put away the ginkgo leaf and distanced herself from the black lotus to avoid being discovered by other beings that she had already communicated with the black lotus.

Roar!

Moments later, the void trembled, and a terrifying demonic wind swept in.

What appeared before Su Yao’s eyes was a massive creature over two hundred feet long.

“A Terror Crocodile!” Su Yao’s eyes narrowed sharply.

It was actually a Terror Crocodile.

Such a creature was supposed to have been extinct, yet here it was again.

At this moment, the Terror Crocodile’s brown eyes were fixed intently on the black lotus, filled with intense greed.

One calamity after another.

Screech!

A piercing cry rang out, and the sky suddenly darkened.

Following the Terror Crocodile was a massive golden eagle.

The golden eagle was incredibly powerful, having been unstoppable in the forest earlier.

Yet now, this golden eagle had several injuries on its body.

“You beast…” A voice called out as a purple-robed man appeared behind the golden eagle.

The purple-robed man carried a gourd on his back, with a violet-gold flying knife hovering above it, clearly a magical treasure.

The purple-robed man seemed to be pursuing the golden eagle, but upon arriving here, his gaze was quickly drawn to the black lotus.

His pupils constricted sharply, and he couldn’t help but gasp.

A meteor had fallen from the heavens, drawing tens of thousands of cultivators to the northeast of the Ancient Wilderness in pursuit of an unparalleled opportunity.

And now, it seemed that opportunity had appeared right before his eyes.
