The trembling of the earth and the trees was caused by the advancing beasts.

A few beasts alone couldn’t cause such a disturbance.

What appeared in the shadowed man’s vision was a tidal wave of beasts, surging like a tsunami.

Within this tide were several presences that made the shadowed man’s heart race with fear.

“Zashiki-warashi, can this disaster be averted?” the shadowed man muttered as he took out a small porcelain doll, no larger than a baby’s fist, from his robe.

Crack!

A crack appeared on the porcelain doll.

Seeing this, the shadowed man’s hair stood on end. Without a moment’s hesitation, he turned and fled at his fastest speed.

His destination: Beiding City.

In Beiding City, the leaders of the major factions had gathered in one place.

“That nonsense about us helping them find some real culprit from Southern Mountain City is a joke.”

“Indeed, threatening us with the Misty Forbidden Zone as if we’d be scared!”

“The heavy damage inflicted on the Wolf Cavalry of Southern Mountain City wasn’t our doing, but it certainly works in our favor.”

The leaders sneered.

Though the Misty Forbidden Zone had attacked Southern Mountain City before, those in Beiding City didn’t feel particularly threatened by it.

To them, the Misty Forbidden Zone wasn’t a force to be reckoned with.

After all, Beiding City was a major city of the Nanzhao Kingdom, with a population of six million, far more important than Southern Mountain City.

They didn’t believe the Misty Forbidden Zone would actually dare to attack Beiding City. That would be tantamount to declaring full-scale war on the Nanzhao Kingdom, which was no small matter.

Rumble!

Suddenly, a violent tremor came from outside.

Simultaneously, the sky darkened as thick clouds rolled in, and a fierce wind swept through Beiding City.

“What’s going on?”

The leaders of Beiding City’s factions were shocked. They quickly walked out of the hall to the outside.

They were on the top floor of a 1,000-foot tall building, offering a view of Beiding City and the surrounding area.

Their pupils contracted at what they saw.

On the northern city wall, the guards were even more horrified.

They saw a massive, dark cloud pressing in from outside the city.

At first, they didn’t realize what it was. But as it got closer, they saw that it was a vast swarm of beasts.

Their scalps tingled.

“Quick, alert the lords and assemble the army!”

“Highest state of war readiness!”

The guards screamed at the top of their lungs.

Messages flew out rapidly.

The massive city machine of Beiding City sprang into high-speed operation.

Armies surged from their camps, rushing to the various walls.

But regardless of who arrived, as soon as they reached the city walls, they couldn’t help but feel a chill of fear.

In this era of spiritual revival, nearly every city had experienced beast tides.

Beiding City was no exception.

However, the scale of the beast tide before them was beyond anything they had imagined.

They truly understood what it meant to be overwhelmed, to face a flood of beasts.

On the northern city wall stood Luo Jiannan. After retreating from Southern Mountain City, he had not left Nanzhao but had come to Beiding City. He had a hand in the recent attack on Southern Mountain City as well.

To him, a few deaths in the Wolf Cavalry, both humans and beasts, were not a big deal. If anything, it allowed him to vent some of his frustrations.

In his view, the losses of the Wolf Cavalry were negligible. Every war costs the lives of hundreds or even thousands of his soldiers. The Wolf Cavalry’s losses were insignificant by comparison.

However, the Misty Forbidden Zone’s response was far more intense than he had expected. He couldn’t help but feel a trace of apprehension.

Compared to the people of Nanzhao, Luo Jiannan knew far more about the Misty Forbidden Zone and had an unspoken fear of it.

After all, the Misty Forbidden Zone had once ravaged the Qingzhou region of the Great Xia Dynasty, and even Great Xia had no effective way to deal with it.

Next to Luo Jiannan, the Nanzhao general noticed his expression and laughed, “Lord Luo, there’s no need to worry so much. Beiding City is not Southern Mountain City; it won’t fall so easily.”

Luo Jiannan remained silent.

After a moment, he spoke slowly, “This beast tide… it’s been stirred up by the Misty Forbidden Zone.”

“The Misty Forbidden Zone? Of course, we know that,” the Nanzhao general replied dismissively. “Hmph, they’re bold, I’ll give them that. But they’re clearly not taking Nanzhao seriously. Lord Luo, just watch. As long as we hold out, the entire Nanzhao Kingdom will mobilize, and we’ll make sure the Misty Forbidden Zone pays dearly.”

Roar!

As if in response to the Nanzhao general, the beasts in the tide began to part, revealing a group of giant apes.

The most terrifying of these apes was a 150-foot-tall giant, exuding the aura of an upper-grade third-tier beast.

When it roared towards Beiding City, the cultivators within felt their hearts tremble.

And this was just the beginning.

Behind the giant apes came a group of brown bears, the largest among them standing 250 feet tall, radiating the aura of a supreme-grade third-tier beast.

Next came a horde of white pythons, the largest of which was 300 feet long, like a moving mountain range.

“Nanzhao Kingdom, this is your last chance,” the leading giant ape spoke, “Cooperate with us to capture the real culprits behind the attack on the Wolf Cavalry. You’ve been used; why protect those who are using you as a shield?”

“What a joke!” the Nanzhao general scoffed. “You beasts dare to threaten the Nanzhao Kingdom? I assure you, after this battle, there will be no more Misty Forbidden Zone in this world.”

Roar!

The beasts of the Misty Forbidden Zone were enraged. It was one thing for the general to insult them, but to declare that the Misty Forbidden Zone would be wiped out crossed a line.

To them, the Misty Forbidden Zone was their home, a sacred sanctuary. They would rather die than allow any force to threaten it.

“Break the city! Kill anyone who stands in our way!”

A cold voice came from the rear of the beast tide.

In the sky, a giant crow hovered, and on its back sat a woman in a green robe.

This was Huang Shuling.

With her Heaven and Human Induction talent, she was the most suited to lead this battle, so she was the commander of this campaign.

The other commanders hesitated. They knew the Divine Tree’s attitude towards humans had always been quite friendly. If they breached the city, it would inevitably lead to massive human casualties.

“The Divine Tree Lord has granted permission,” Huang Shuling said.

The commanders’ eyes lit up.

The next moment, the beast army surged forward like a flood breaking through a dam.

The Ironback Ape led the charge, heading straight for the city gate with his beasts.

They launched a ferocious attack on the gate.

Beiding City’s gates were incredibly sturdy, but the defenders had underestimated the strength of the beast army.

This time, the Ironback Ape had been appointed as the vanguard, and Su Mu had temporarily entrusted him with the Kongtong Seal.

“Hmph.”

The ape was wise enough to use such a powerful treasure.

He hefted the Kongtong Seal like a brick and smashed it against the city gate with all his might.

His strength was undeniable, and the power of the Kongtong Seal was even more so.

Boom!

The gate shook violently.

Among the tremors, a cracking sound was heard.

The guards inside the city were horrified.

A crack appeared on the gate, which had been forged from black iron.

No one expected it to crack under the assault.

The ape smashed it a few more times.

The gate could no longer hold and collapsed completely.

The Ironback Ape then led hundreds of apes into Beiding City, with the beast tide flooding in behind them.

In the sky, nine giant crows appeared, followed by a vast flock of birds.

The nine crows flapped their wings furiously, stirring up a storm that swept into Beiding City.

“This is impossible!” the Nanzhao general exclaimed in disbelief.

He couldn’t accept what was happening.

In less than fifteen minutes, the city gate had been breached, and the beast tide was flooding into the city.

“Defend with all your might! Push them back!” the Nanzhao general regained his composure and issued orders.

So what if the gate had fallen? Beiding City still had an army of 100,000, and he refused to believe they couldn’t repel the beast tide.

However, the situation soon grew more dire for the Nanzhao general. The 100,000 soldiers of Beiding City couldn’t seem to hold back the beast tide.

As for the civilians within the city, they were initially terrified when the beast tide broke through, recalling the stories of other cities that had been massacred after falling to beast tides.

But after the beast army entered, they only attacked the city’s soldiers. Any civilian who attacked them would be killed, but those who did not were left unharmed.

Luo Jiannan and the Great Xia cultivators at his side quietly began to retreat. The Nanzhao general was determined to stand firm, but they had no intention of going down with him.

The actions of the Great Xia cultivators didn’t escape the notice of the Nanzhao general. By this point, he knew he had underestimated the Misty Forbidden Zone. However, he had no way out. This was the Nanzhao Kingdom, not the Great Xia. The Great Xia cultivators could retreat, but he had no such option. He had to hold on, hoping reinforcements from across the kingdom would arrive in time.

At the same moment, a powerful aura, the kind that only a peak Golden Core stage expert could possess, emanated from the Nanzhao general. Despite the dire circumstances, his cultivation was indeed formidable.

“We, the cultivators of Nanzhao, shall fight to the death without retreating!” The Nanzhao general roared as he drew his long blade and charged into the fray. His target was the giant ape leading the beast army, which had caused massive casualties to the Nanzhao forces.

“You must be the commander of Beiding City,” the giant ape growled as it rushed to meet the general in combat.

Their clash was fierce and brutal.

“Blazing Sun Divine Blade!” The Nanzhao general gripped his sword with both hands and unleashed a powerful slash, with flames roaring on the blade, emanating a terrifying might.

Vajra, the giant ape, raised the Kongtong Seal to block the attack. However, the Nanzhao general’s strength was far greater than the ape had anticipated.

Bang!

The force of the strike sent the ape flying, crashing heavily to the ground.

“Vile beast, prepare to die!” The Nanzhao general moved in for the kill, aiming to decapitate the giant ape.

But just as the fatal blow was about to land, a walking stick appeared out of nowhere, intercepting the attack.

Clang!

The long blade clashed with the stick, forcing the Nanzhao general to stagger back several steps. He looked up to see a young human male standing behind the Ironback Ape. The young man had a black cloth over his eyes and was holding the stick in one hand.

The Nanzhao general’s face grew grim, for the aura emanating from this young man was on par with his own!
