The counsellor nodded with relief. Seeing Xia Zhixu in this state, it was clear that he must be someone pampered and cherished at home, yet still so sensible and obedient—he’d been targeted before and had endured so many times in silence. The counsellor didn’t hide anything and told Song Qingchuan everything that had happened.

Song Qingchuan’s brows furrowed slightly. His thin lips pressed together, and a shadow of gloom settled over him. He glanced down at Xia Zhixu, who was behaving obediently in his arms.

‘No wonder Xia Zhixu didn’t want to live in the dormitory before. So this is how the others treated him. It was my negligence—I thought people in university would be more decent than this.’

“Teacher, I’d like to speak with you privately,” Song Qingchuan said, patting Xia Zhixu in his arms.

The counsellor agreed.

Originally, Song Qingchuan had planned to use this time to switch jobs, earn a decent sum, and then bring Xia Zhixu out to live with him once he entered his sophomore year. But now, seeing Xia Zhixu being bullied, he couldn’t convince himself to wait.

Song Qingchuan and the counsellor stepped outside, followed by the department Director.

Two other teachers remained in the office, leaving Zhao Zihe no chance to taunt Xia Zhixu.

Xia Zhixu timidly lifted his gaze, meeting Zhao Zihe’s eyes. Zhao Zihe shot him a vicious glare, making Xia Zhixu flinch, trembling like a fragile little white flower unable to withstand the wind. The sight made Zhao Zihe’s fists clench—he really wanted to punch Xia Zhixu!

‘Damn green tea White lotus!!

Zhao Zihe’s fists tightened even more, struggling to maintain his expression. The effort was so intense that it made his face look slightly contorted.

At the corridor entrance—

“…Zhixu hasn’t had the easiest upbringing. He always tries to shoulder everything alone. If his emotions hadn’t completely collapsed this time, he wouldn’t have ended up like this. I’m worried he might do something impulsive if left alone at school. Just to be safe, I’d like to apply for off-campus housing for him. Of course, we’ll sign the consent form.”

Song Qingchuan looked earnestly at the counsellor and director.

Having heard about Xia Zhixu’s background, both felt even more sympathetic toward him.

Seeing Xia Zhixu crying so hard and still trembling, the counsellor couldn’t help worrying as well.

From a responsibility standpoint, keeping Xia Zhixu on campus in his current state could be really risky. If Song Qingchuan signed the consent form, then even if something happened, the university wouldn’t bear much liability.

As for Zhao Zihe, that arrogant second-generation rich kid, even if he apologised on the surface, there was no guarantee he wouldn’t retaliate later. Given the circumstances, off-campus housing seemed the safest option.

“Director, what do you think?” The counsellor asked.

The Director nodded.

“All right, have them sign the waiver. Special circumstances warrant special treatment. As an older brother, you should pay attention to your younger brother’s mental health. Don’t just focus on making money. This kid is so well-behaved—it’d be a shame if his mind breaks down.”

“Thank you both for your understanding. I’ll definitely keep an eye on him. Please contact me immediately if anything happens,” Song Qingchuan said gratefully.

***

“Does this mean we can live together forever now?” Xia Zhixu’s eyes sparkled as he looked up at Song Qingchuan, who was holding his hand.

“Mhm.” Song Qingchuan gave a perfunctory reply as he walked toward the dormitory.

Xia Zhixu could sense Song Qingchuan wasn’t in the best mood, but he was thrilled nonetheless.

He was quite clever after all. With just a little bit of acting on his part, Song Qingchuan had persuaded the teachers to let him live off-campus.

‘Hehehe, he was just too clever.’

Yuan Bao, “…”

It glanced at Zhao Zihe’s rage meter—Zhao Zihe was furious enough to explode, yet its host was still grinning like an idiot. Truly, people’s joys and sorrows never intersect.

Somehow, its host felt both incredibly powerful and utterly useless at the same time.

‘What should I even do with him?’

The only consolation was Song Qingchuan’s steadily declining, darkening value.

As long as his darkening value didn’t increase, the mission was half accomplished.

In a way, its host was still pretty awesome… right?

Yuan Bao could only look on the bright side.

“Do we have to take all of this with us?”

“Uh-huh!”

“This plush toy too?”

“Yes! This one, and that one, and that one—all of them!”

Song Qingchuan nodded, began stuffing everything Xia Zhixu owned that would fit into the burlap sack. After asking a few times, he finally understood Xia Zhixu intended to bring everything he owned. Fortunately, it wasn’t much—the sack he’d bought at the university gate should fit it all.

Xia Zhixu helped by carefully packing up his small belongings.

Just as they finished packing, the door—previously ajar—slammed open with a loud bang. It crashed into the wall and bounced back.

Fortunately, Song Qingchuan had just reached the wardrobe. Had he been a step slower, the door might have hit him.

Xia Zhixu jumped in fright, instinctively reaching out to grab the corner of Song Qingchuan’s shirt.

Zhao Zihe stormed in with Zhou Ziwen, his face twisted with malice.

He had done it on purpose. A smirk played on his lips as he looked at Xia Zhixu and Song Qingchuan with pure spite.

Xia Zhixu’s fingers trembled slightly. Having witnessed Lu Heyan’s death before his eyes, only he knew how terrified he was of seeing Song Qingchuan get hurt before his eyes.

Zhao Zihe had almost injured Song Qingchuan.

Song Qingchuan interpreted Xia Zhixu’s reaction as the fear of someone long subjected to bullying. He shot Zhao Zihe a cold, dark glance.

Zhao Zihe flinched at Song Qingchuan’s dark stare. Snapping back to his senses, he erupted in rage, “What are you looking at? You two broke-ass nobodies! Think I’m scared of you? Gonna run crying to the teachers again? You think they can protect you forever? Acting all innocent when you’re just a sellout — push me too far, and you won’t even know how you died!”

He was clearly trying to provoke them — his words growing nastier by the second.

“You… you… *#$%*!” Xia Zhixu, furious, charged at Zhao Zihe, sputtering incoherent curses.

Song Qingchuan watched Xia Zhixu lunge forward, a flicker of shock crossing his wide eyes before he instinctively caught and held him back.

Xia Zhixu was livid. Not only had Zhao Zihe almost hurt Song Qingchuan, but he’d also called him a broke-ass nobody!

Zhao Zihe flinched in fright.

Song Qingchuan lowered his gaze, gently soothing Xia Zhixu in a calm voice, “Let’s go home.”

Xia Zhixu’s eyes stung with tears. He nodded quickly and followed Song Qingchuan out.

Zhao Zihe hadn’t expected that even after pushing things this far, Song Qingchuan and Xia Zhixu would react like this. Though it seemed like he’d won, Zhao Zihe felt an overwhelming rage—a fury born of feeling utterly disregarded.

In a fit of rage, he kicked the door hard.

At the corner of the hallway, Xia Zhixu glanced back over his shoulder.

Yuan Bao gritted its teeth.

‘If it hadn’t exhausted its points, it’d have slapped that bastard twice itself.’

‘How could anyone be so utterly despicable!’
