Xia Zhixu returned to her seat and began checking her belongings one by one. Everything seemed fine until she touched the damp bedsheets.

Xia Zhixu frowned. Zhao Zihe was truly childish.

The cotton quilt was already soaked. Even though the weather wasn’t cold now, wet cotton would take a long time to dry.

Xia Zhixu turned to look at Zhao Zihe. He smirked maliciously, tilting his head slightly as if to say, ‘I did it. What are you gonna do about it?’

Yuan Bao, “These people are too much! How could they do something like this?”

Xia Zhixu hadn’t done anything, yet they went and soaked his cotton quilt! Yuan Bao was so furious that it wanted to bite someone!

Zhao Zihe had been feeling quite smug. He was certain Xia Zhixu wouldn’t dare do anything to him and was waiting for Xia Zhixu to lose his temper. Instead, Xia Zhixu just stood there, staring at him intently, looking a bit eerie.

“You… why are you staring at me?” Zhao Zihe shifted uncomfortably, feeling a bit guilty.

“Thank you,” Xia Zhixu said.

Yuan Bao, “??!!”

Zhao Zihe’s eyes widened in disbelief.

‘Thank you?’

Xia Zhixu actually thanked him?!! Unless Xia Zhixu was out of his mind, was he mocking him?

Unless there were exceptional circumstances, the school wouldn’t permit freshmen to live off-campus. This was the perfect excuse—bullied in the dorm, suffering psychological trauma, unable to continue living there. It couldn’t be more perfect.

‘He is simply too smart, right?’ Xia Zhixu thought.

Yuan Bao gained a deeper understanding of the vast diversity of humankind once again.

He watched blankly in stunned silence as Xia Zhixu strode out of the dorm toward the faculty building. He ran his fingers through his hair several times along the way. His naturally curly locks instantly turned into a messy bird’s nest—though it actually looked pretty cute.

By the time he reached the counsellor’s office, Xia Zhixu’s eyes were red.

Yuan Bao’s entire CPU was fried—it couldn’t fathom what Xia Zhixu was up to.

Given his temperament, Yuan Bao expected him to turn tail and run the moment he reached the door.

But then something utterly shocking happened. Xia Zhixu stood at the office entrance, took two deep breaths, and knocked.

—An hour later—

Zhao Zihe stared speechlessly at Xia Zhixu, who was sitting beside the counsellor, crying so hard he looked like he might faint. How had he never known Xia Zhixu could be so shameless? Crying like this, you’d think he’d dug up his own ancestors’ graves overnight.

‘It was just a little water spilt on his bed! Did a grown man really need to cry like this? How disgusting—acting like some White lotus.’

The worst part was… if this weren’t targeted at him, Zhao Zihe might have felt pity. Xia Zhixu was good-looking, and crying made him even more so. He looked utterly wronged, his body trembling slightly.

Initially, Xia Zhixu had started with just reddened eyes, but then fear took hold. The office was full of unfamiliar teachers—terrifying! And there was a grade Director too, who looked so stern…

Frightened, Xia Zhixu couldn’t hold back his tears and began trembling—ot because he was truly wronged, but because he was scared.

Seeing this scene, the teachers rushed to ask Xia Zhixu what was wrong. Sniffling, he told them that someone had poured water on his bed.

The counsellor had long heard rumours about Zhao Zihe and the others bullying Xia Zhixu before. But since Xia Zhixu had always endured it silently, insisting he was fine, no action had been taken.

Hearing Xia Zhixu say this now immediately reminded the counsellor of past incidents.

Normally, a boy who cried so easily might seem annoying, but Xia Zhixu’s face was simply too striking. Every teacher in the office felt their maternal instincts overflow.

In the end, they summoned Zhao Zihe and the others to the office.

Zhao Zihe had imagined many possible reactions from Xia Zhixu, but never this shameless one—actually running to the teachers to tattle.

“It’s nothing, teacher, we were just joking  around…” Zhao Zihe hesitated before forcing the words out.

“Joking around? If I recall correctly, last winter you locked Xia Zhixu out on the dorm balcony, and another time left him outside the door until the dorm supervisor had to let him in. You claimed that you were just joking around then, too… We didn’t emphasise it much because Xia Zhixu chose not to pursue it. How many times have you just been joking around in less than a year?”

The counsellor looked at the trembling Xia Zhixu, his gaze growing increasingly stern as he turned to Zhao Zihe.

If he’d been alone, he might have cut Zhao Zihe some slack. But the grade Director and others were present, and Xia Zhixu clearly seemed deeply distressed. The counsellor had no choice but to handle this impartially.

“Joking around only counts as fun when both parties find it amusing. Having your own cliques in college is one thing, but banding together to isolate and bully someone is a character flaw,” the Director said coldly, rapping the table.

“Don’t use ‘joking around’ as an excuse for bullying! Bullying is utterly despicable, no matter the age group!!”

Zhao Zihe nervously avoided the Director’s gaze, but his apology was sincere.

“We’re sorry, sir. We know we were wrong and won’t do it again!”

“Right, right! We’ll dry his bedding as soon as we get back.”

“Yes, sir. We deeply regret our actions and promise never to repeat them.”

Chen Mingyu and Zhou Ziwen hurriedly chimed in.

The counsellor turned to Xia Zhixu, whose eyes were red, and tears were still falling. He wanted to ask if he intended to stay in this dorm or request a transfer.

Xia Zhixu shook his head frantically, appearing emotionally unstable.

The counsellor could only contact Xia Zhixu’s ‘guardian,’ Song Qingchuan, requesting his presence at the school.

Song Qingchuan arrived at the office looking dishevelled. He saw Zhao Zihe and the other two apologising to the counsellor, while Xia Zhixu sat beside the counsellor, tears still streaming down his face.

Zhao Zihe froze upon seeing Song Qingchuan.

Some people are born with an innate presence—they seem destined to stand at the centre of attention.

Song Qingchuan was one such person.

His striking features, tempered by a cool aloofness and a touch of roguish charm, made him unforgettable at first glance. Had his family background been more privileged, he would have been a man who irresistibly captivates others like a venomous charm.

He carried the weight of life experience that would rival anyone. A presence that made Jiang Minghui pale in comparison, regardless of background.

Zhao Zihe suddenly found himself half-convinced Xia Zhixu wasn’t playing hard to get.

Xia Zhixu had been trembling the entire time, but when he spotted Song Qingchuan, it felt like a beacon of salvation. He sprang to his feet and threw himself into Song Qingchuan’s arms.

Enveloped by that familiar scent, Xia Zhixu’s trembling heart finally began to calm.

Song Qingchuan held him close. Seeing his pitifully vulnerable state, the tuft of hair atop his head quivered with the movement, and his heart melted completely.

“You’re… Xia Zhixu’s brother, right?”

The counsellor was startled by Xia Zhixu’s reaction and hesitated before asking.

Song Qingchuan nodded politely.

“Hello, teacher. Yes, I’m Xia Zhixu’s older brother. You can tell me directly if there’s anything we need to discuss.”
