Lin Ze didn’t hear Bai Xi’s provocation. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let him off so easily. He only saw Bai Xi insulting Luo Ning, which completely infuriated him. Lin Ze’s sharp fangs gleamed coldly. He didn’t kill Bai Xi at this moment only because it was the rule in the bones of beastmen that they could not harm females.

Luo Ning remained silent and didn’t speak up for Bai Xi.

Bai Xi, who was curled up on the ground, finally realized he wasn’t in the tribe anymore and couldn’t act arrogantly. Recognizing his current situation, Bai Xi was filled with panic. He trembled and shrank back, stammering, “You can’t hit me! I’m a female! If you hit me, the Beast God will punish you!”

Bai Xi was secretly regretful. How could he have forgotten? The one in front of him was a wandering beastman. Wandering beastmen were known for their cruelty, so why would they care too much?

His identity as a female was no longer useful now. He should have known better than to meddle. What if he ended up getting killed?!

As he saw the footsteps drawing closer, Bai Xi was so frightened he nearly fainted, screaming in a sharp piercing voice.

Luo Ning frowned uncomfortably and said, “You should leave quickly. Get out of here, you’re not welcome.”

“If you dislike this place so much, I won’t force you to stay.”

Bai Xi was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly shook his head. He wasn’t foolish enough to leave at this time. Although the wandering beastman was terrifying, at least it was somewhat safe. Huo Yan’s injuries hadn’t healed yet, and without beastmen to protect him on the road, even getting enough to eat would be a problem.

Bai Xi was unwilling to leave. He would at least wait until Huo Yan fully recovered.

He swallowed hard and refused, “I’m not leaving. I’m just a delicate female, and it’s dangerous for me outside.”

Luo Ning tugged at the corners of his mouth. “We’re just strangers. Why should I protect you? Whatever happens to you has nothing to do with me.”

Bai Xi glared at him. “How can you be so heartless? We’re both females. With such a cruel heart, it’s no wonder you’re mixed up with a wandering beastman.”

Lin Ze had lost all patience. Transforming into his snake form, he opened his gaping, abyss-like mouth, revealing sharp fangs and a fierce expression. He suddenly lunged at Bai Xi. A wave of overwhelming danger engulfed Bai Xi. His eye rolled back, and then he fainted.

Lin Ze’s eyes flashed with a hint of disdain. He used his snake tail to throw Bai Xi aside. His throat let out a hiss, and his cold pupils held only a sense of threat, wanting the awakened beastman to leave his territory as soon as possible.

With Bai Xi gone, Luo Ning felt a sense of quiet around him. However, Bai Xi’s commotion had inevitably affected his mood.

Lin Ze held him close, tightly wrapping his arms around him. His eyes deepening as he whispered in Luo Ning’s ear, “Ning Ning, even though I’m a wandering beastman, I will always treat you well.”

Lin Ze had previously thought that being a wandering beastman was no big deal as long as he lived freely. But now with a beloved partner, he couldn’t help but feel anxious about it.

Lin Ze once considered the females in the tribe to be too delicate, but now he realized there were also selfish and shameless ones like Bai Xi. In contrast to them, he felt incredibly lucky to have such a lovely partner. Lin Ze cherished his current life and wanted to hold on tightly to this happiness.

Luo Ning patted his back, feeling the heartbeat next to his ear. With a slight smile, he enjoyed the warm atmosphere before pouting and complaining, “You say you treat me well, but you never listen to me. So you were just trying to appease me.”

Lin Ze became anxious and said, “Ning Ning, I listen to everything you say. What’s wrong with me? Tell me.”

Luo Ning pressed his lips together and replied, “Every time I’m unhappy, you always toss me around. That’s not right.”

Lin Ze’s expression softened, and he didn’t argue or explain. He could listen to Luo Ning’s complaints about many things, but when it came to matters that affected his happiness, he couldn’t compromise. He remained silent and listened obediently to Luo Ning’s grievances.

Luo Ning secretly cursed him for being cunning. He knew this lecherous snake wouldn’t express his feelings. Pulling Lin Ze closer, he huffed, “Let’s go home and make something delicious!”

He wanted to use food to comfort himself after being irritated by Bai Xi.

On the other side…

Bai Xi, along with the injured Huo Yan, cursed and supported each other as they hurried through the forest. The forest was vast, and Huo Yan, being injured, couldn’t take care of Bai Xi properly, which made Bai Xi’s situation very difficult. In a short time, he suffered all sorts of hardships.

At night, there was no place to shelter from the wind and rain, and every meal consisted of rat meat that Huo Yan caught. Bai Xi felt sorry for himself and regretted speaking out. He could have been enjoying free food and drink without being so exhausted.

Although there were dangers in the forest, Bai Xi didn’t have too much bad luck this time. He and Huo Yan safely made their way back to the tribe.

The moment he saw the tribe, tears welled up in Bai Xi’s eyes. Here, he was sheltered and treated like a treasure, having suffered no hardships at all. After going through so many trials, he finally returned home. Bai Xi felt incredibly excited.

He thought his nightmare had finally ended and that he could once again be spoiled by the entire tribe and live without worries, just like before.

But after he rested, he faced the entire tribe’s accusations. Because of his reckless play, many tribe members had died trying to rescue him from the wandering beastmen. They all blamed him for his impulsiveness.

Females may be precious, but with so many strong beastmen dead, the other members of the tribe weren’t exactly worthless grass either.

Bai Xi noticed that the attitude of the tribe members had changed. The way they looked at him was unfamiliar, and he was no longer valued. They often used him as a negative example to scold him. Upon his return, he felt stifled. Some of the deceased beastmen had partners who were understandably furious and would drag him out to beat him. Bai Xi felt everything had changed. He no longer felt precious.

…

Winter soon arrived, and the temperature dropped rapidly. Within just a few days, there was no sign of sunlight. The outside was filled with howling cold winds that drilled into his bone. The trees in the forest suddenly shed piles of dry leaves, and the once lush wild fruits and vegetables disappeared. The frequency of animals coming out also decreased.

Luo Ning had already put on a thick animal skin coat, wrapping himself tightly from head to toe. The white fur was fluffy, making his face look even paler and smaller. His eyes were dark and bright. He didn’t appear bulky at all. Instead, he had a touch of cuteness that was heart-melting.

Since the weather turned cold, he didn’t like going out. The front door was also covered with animal skins by him to firmly block the cold wind, making the inside warm and comfortable.

A fire crackled in the middle of the room, with a few sweet potatoes roasting in the ashes, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Lin Ze was curled up in the nest, lazily squinting his eyes, while Luo Ning sat casually, pulling out the sweet potatoes.

Although there were far fewer prey outside, Lin Ze still managed to bring back plenty of animals every day. Whenever there was leftover food, Luo Ning would find a way to roast and dry it to make it into smoked meat, and the large fish from the river were also pickled.

There were plenty of snacks at home: crispy pork, dried fruit, sweet potato fries, plain potato chips, candied fruits, and stir-fried nuts were all saved. The sweet potatoes and vegetables in the ground were sprouting green shoots, and they raised dozens of chickens, which laid out large baskets of eggs every day. With no shortages of food, clothing, or drink, there was no urgent work to do, so of course he could snuggle at home to keep warm.

Luo Ning glanced outside, his face hit by the wind. If early winter was this cold, deep winter would be unbearable.

His health wasn’t great, so to avoid catching a cold this winter, Luo Ning planned to prepare early. He had already gathered ginger to ward off the cold and was going to sew animal skins into clothes, hats, and gloves. Now he had sharper needles made from the sharp quills of wild boars, making sewing very convenient.

Just then, Lin Ze returned with a goat-like prey. Luo Ning planned to use it for hot pot or soup—both warming and nourishing.

Hot pot is the best choice in this kind of weather. Hot pot and braised pork are Lin Ze’s favorite foods. He never seems to get tired of them. Luo Ning found hot pot simple and delicious, so he often cooked it.

As the weather turned colder, Shui Yue and the others rarely came by. Their home became a world for just the two of them. Even when they leaned against each other, a simple kiss felt sweet, which brightened Lin Ze’s mood.

This winter was colder than Luo Ning had imagined. One morning while he was sewing animal skin clothes and blankets, he noticed that snowflakes were gently falling outside.

The snowflake here was beautiful, about the size of a finger, clearly displaying its six crystalline petals. It resembled a fairy tale world, covered in pure white everywhere, with snow accumulating and covering the ground.

Of course, it was also very cold. Luo Ning couldn’t help but shiver, his nose turning a rosy red. After admiring the snow scene for a while, he decisively gave up the idea of a snowball fight and returned inside to roast some sausages.

Staying cooped up inside all winter was quite boring. Luo Ning thought for a moment and said to Lin Ze, “How about we go out and play for a bit?”

Lin Ze, curled up in a cozy spot, lazily drooped his eyelids. He only slightly moved his eyelids, turned his body, and barely mustered the energy to wrap Luo Ning in his arms. “Ning Ning, it’s bare outside. There’s nothing to see. Let’s sleep a little longer.”

Due to his instincts as a snake beast, Lin Ze lacked energy in winter, feeling as if all his bones were soft. Normally at this time, he would have been curled up in his cave, hibernating until spring. But now that he had a mate, he had to resist the urge to sleep and stay awake to accompany Luo Ning through the winter.

He could sleep for the entire winter, and if he fell asleep, he wouldn’t be able to protect Luo Ning or cook meat for him, so he dared not do so.

Lin Ze tightened his hold on Luo Ning, embracing him closely. This warmth was comforting and made him feel attached.

Luo Ning patted him and complained, “You can just close your eyes, but I’m wide awake now. I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Lin Ze suddenly pressed him down, biting Luo Ning’s lips and murmuring, “Since that’s the case, let’s just cuddle.”

Luo Ning winced as his waist felt a twinge of pain. Recently, he had been snuggling with Lin Ze in the cave, turning into a pancake every day. He quickly pushed Lin Ze away, but Lin Ze had already unfastened his animal skin coat, his large hand gliding over Luo Ning’s belly.

A cool sensation passed over him, bringing a ticklish and tingling feeling.
