- Chapter 90 - The Snake Husband in the Beast World (15)
In the thickly wooded area, Luo Ning easily filled his basket with mushrooms. Since mushrooms can often be toxic, he didn’t dare to eat them directly. Instead, he caught a clucking chicken and tore the mushrooms into small pieces and fed them to the chicken as a test.
The chicken ate them happily and was fine and still pecking at the grass the next day. Only then did Luo Ning feel reassured. He decided to cook the mushrooms into a soup, and they turned out to be fresh and tender. The leftovers were dried to make mushroom chips.
With these little collections, the family’s property increased. There were dried meat, dried vegetables, dried fruits, wild fruits, wild vegetables, sweet potatoes, clucking chickens in bamboo cages, and baskets of eggs. The storage room was filled to the brim.
Luo Ning remembered that during winter here, prey would be scarce. Even strong beastmen would struggle to find food. To prepare early, he intentionally started stockpiling food and clothing.
After the heavy rain, the temperature seemed to gradually drop, and leaves began to fall, signaling the transition to autumn and winter.
Luo Ning now avoided going to the riverbank and bathed at home instead. He had specially made a large wooden tub, pieced together with glue made from fish bladders, and dug a special water storage pit behind the house, so he didn’t have to go to the river for water.
Despite basking in the sun so much, Luo Ning remained fair and tender. With a rich diet, his slim waist had become a bit more plump.
Soaking in warm water and scrubbing himself with homemade pig pancreas, his fair skin took on a beautiful peachy hue, and the steam made his face dewy and rosy.
As Luo Ning stood up, water droplets cascaded down his face, but suddenly he felt a pair of hot hands pressing against his waist, lifting him up like a child and holding him close.
In his panic, Luo Ning wrapped his legs around Lin Ze’s waist, and the steam from the water clung to Lin Ze’s strong arms.
Luo Ning was held like that without any warning. He patted Lin Ze. “What are you doing?”
Lin Ze stuck out his tongue and licked away the droplets of water sliding down Luo Ning’s face. His movements were slow and deliberate, yet tinged with intense desire. He swept his eyes over his soft and pink baby in his arms. Lin Ze’s throat moved, and he licked his lips, taking in the drops of water. His eyes darkened and he said with a hint of grievance, “Ning Ning, you’re so sweet.”
“It’s been so long since we hugged. Can I kiss you?”
Luo Ning frowned, wishing he could slap this shameless person. What did he mean by so long?
Just the night before, he had turned into a pancake, with nothing left after being devoured. And now, Lin Ze was pretending to be pitiful and showing no signs of guilt.
He turned his head away. “No.”
Lin Ze grabbed Luo Ning’s legs around his waist and pulled him closer. He bit down on his lips and placed him on the animal skin blanket. “You’re so wet, Ning Ning. It must be uncomfortable to sleep like this. Let me dry you off.”
Instead of getting a cloth, he leaned down and slowly licked away the droplets of water with his thin lips, tracing a path down on Luo Ning’s body.
Luo Ning tilted his head back, feeling like he had melted into a puddle of water. His limbs felt weak. He glared at Lin Ze in annoyance. He knew this shameless man wouldn’t stop until he got his way.
His cheeks turned as red as a tomato. He could only mumble a few curses, repeating the same two words over and over. This made him look adorably cute.
Hearing Lin Ze’s soft chuckle, Luo Ning couldn’t hold back his anger. He bit Lin Ze’s chest in retaliation, his small teeth nibbling at him.
He thought this would relieve some of his annoyance, but Lin Ze let out a soft hum, his eyes filled with an emotion that was hard to ignore. Luo Ning shivered and instinctively tried to retreat into a corner.
But he was caught by a large hand and pulled back with ease, like a little chick with no power to resist. He was thrown back onto the blanket, becoming a pancake once again.
With the weather now cooling down, Lin Ze became lazy and stayed at home, while Luo Ning was suffering and trapped in his “nest” with no way out. Eventually, he couldn’t take it anymore. He started scratching Lin Ze and kicked him away.
They had clearly agreed before that everything would be according to his wishes, but once this stinky snake took advantage of him, it was useless no matter how much he yelled.
Luo Ning felt too weak and exhausted. He insisted on sleeping separately from Lin Ze. Lin Ze was naturally reluctant, but Luo Ning was firm. If they didn’t sleep apart, Lin Ze wasn’t allowed to touch him. Lin Ze had no choice but to agree.
Luo Ning had developed a bit of a phobia about it. To replenish his energy, he prepared nourishing soups daily. He thought that perhaps snake beastmen weren’t popular because snakes were too terrifying.
…
After a few days of cooling down and with Lin Ze sweet-talking and coaxing him, Luo Ning finally calmed down enough to allow hugs and kisses. Having learned his lesson, Lin Ze restrained himself a bit and was less indulgent. Deep down, he felt helpless. His partner was just too sweet, and he couldn’t help but be drawn to him.
However, he also remembered the fragility of a female’s body and dared not overstep his bounds.
Lin Ze’s downcast eyes were filled with worry. He sighed, his head dropping. His partner was so weak now, what would happen when he went into heat?
Luo Ning was unaware of Lin Ze’s worries. He felt no more pain in his waist or legs, and his mood had brightened. He discovered a patch of wild potatoes in the woods, and he had Lin Ze dig them up and stack them in the yard.
He made potato chips and potato noodles and even planted some in the vegetable garden.
With the abundance of ingredients, on a chilly day, Luo Ning suddenly craved hot pot. Without chili peppers, he decided on a sweet and sour broth.
He simmered pork bones to make a clear broth, added wild fruits, and arranged fish, fish balls, sliced pork, pig trotters, potatoes, greens, radishes, mushrooms, and vermicelli around it.
On the stone slab, he was also frying potato and meat pancakes and stir-frying pork, the rich aroma wafting through the air and making him salivate.
The only downside was that there were no dipping sauces, so he could only savor the fresh flavor.
The small pot was steaming hot, and sitting beside it made his body feel warm and comfortable. Luo Ning squinted in contentment. He took a sip of milk fruit juice and bit into a fish slice, his little mouth turning red from the heat.
As he ate, he chatted with Lin Ze. Just when they were enjoying their meal, Lin Ze suddenly turned his head. His gaze was fixed on the grass nearby, and he threw a stone.
A rustling sound followed, and Luo Ning realized something was approaching. His actions froze as he stared at the grass, unsure if it was some kind of prey.
Since Lin Ze remained seated, it meant there was no threat.
The grass rustled slightly, and a howl sounded from it. A small black creature stumbled out, having a mix of black and white fur, a long tail, and oval ears. It was a little leopard. Its paws seemed unsteady, likely due to being hit by the stone.
Luo Ning had never seen a leopard before, and this one looked quite cute. He couldn’t help but take a closer look.
Lin Ze frowned. He didn’t know where this male cub had come from. Upon seeing the leopard’s mismatched colored eyes, he understood what was going on. It was likely a wandering beast due to its eyes.
Regardless, it wasn’t his concern. Lin Ze knew it was a cub, but he was no soft-hearted beastman. Even if it was a cub, it was male, and its intrusion into his territory made him feel a bit annoyed. Seeing his partner’s attention drawn away only deepened his frown.
He completely ignored the leopard cub, gently turned Luo Ning’s face with his large hand, and said softly, “It might have accidentally wandered over. Ning Ning, don’t look anymore. Your favorite potatoes are ready.”
Luo Ning pulled back his gaze, but he noticed that the little leopard had cautiously stepped back two paces before slowly edging closer again. Its body was tense, appearing fearful and wary.
Yet its eyes were fixed on the clay pot, glimmering with desire. After maintaining a safe distance, it cautiously glanced at Lin Ze and stopped in place.
The little leopard was afraid of Lin Ze and dared not approach, but the aroma from the pot was too enticing. It had never smelled anything so delicious before. Being still young, it had no resistance to the enticing scent. It licked its tongue and its round eyes were filled with deeper longing.
Luo Ning thought the little leopard was adorable. Its round, short body and big, bright eyes looked like a child asking for candy. He had no resistance to cute things, so he smiled slightly and tossed a piece of potato pancake over.
The little leopard caught it deftly, flicking its tail. Its round eyes brightened as it gobbled up the pancake. It was delicious. Licking its tongue with lingering satisfaction, it relaxed its wary gaze towards Luo Ning.
The little leopard had rarely felt kindness from others. It knew it wasn’t particularly likable. It had always been cautious of others, silently keeping its distance. The only reason it stood there now was its childish greed for food.
After tasting such delicious food, it gave its tail a little flick, knowing when to stop to avoid further annoying others. It cast a lingering glance back at the pot and softly called out to Luo Ning as if expressing gratitude before slowly retreating, clearly reluctant to leave.
Luo Ning found it cute. Even its round ears drooped in disappointment. Amused, he tossed another piece of meat pancake, which the little leopard caught.
Perhaps sensing Luo Ning’s warmth, the little leopard smacked its lips and turned its body, showing signs of not wanting to leave.
It even seemed to want to get closer to Luo Ning, but after a quick glance at Lin Ze, it chose to sit back down.
Its tail swished behind it happily. It called softly to Luo Ning, its ears twitching slightly to express friendliness.
Hearing that affectionate and fawning sound, Lin Ze couldn’t help but purse his lips. A hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes. He could tolerate the leopard’s presence here only because it was a wandering cub, so he allowed it to eat so many potato pancakes. But now the little leopard was becoming too bold. What if it tried to stick around?
That was unacceptable. He could feel a bit of pity, but he absolutely couldn’t allow the leopard to get close. How could his mate focus his attention on another male?
Thinking of this, Lin Ze found the little leopard increasingly annoying. It was dark and resembled a lump of mud. Its tail was swishing so fast that it seemed like it might break off. His eyes turned cold and gloomy, sending icy glares, accompanied by a soft hiss of threat.
