The Heila tribe’s beastmen were stunned. What did this mean? Why were so many prey thrown out? Was it to show off? That didn’t make sense either.

Lin Ze’s vertical pupils gleamed coldly. He maintained a distance and said nonchalantly, “These prey are all yours. I want sea salt.”

The Heila tribe hadn’t yet processed this. Normally, wandering beastmen rarely approached their territory.

And when they did, it was usually to plunder. It was the first time they had heard of someone coming to exchange, leaving them all astonished.

Seeing the group of beastmen standing there in a daze, Lin Ze grew impatient. He flicked his massive tail, sending a cloud of dust swirling.

The beastmen recognized the power in his every movement. The eerie light shimmering on his scales made it clear that he was a fierce and ruthless warrior. They all took a cautious step back and exchanged glances.

Lin Ze was annoyed by their hesitation. He was eager to return and accompany his little female. He didn’t have time to waste. He impatiently flicked his tongue. “If you’re not going to trade, then what’s with the silence?”

The chieftain stepped forward trembling, “Our tribe doesn’t have much sea salt. It may not be enough for what you want.”

Although they were wary of this wandering beastman, the pile of prey on the ground was incredibly tempting. Prey was relatively abundant this season, but the tribe had too few warriors to capture large prey. The elderly and cubs in the tribe together required a lot of meat, and everyone was just barely filling their bellies. The things on the ground were exactly what they needed.

Their tribe was poor, and the salt they exchanged at the trade fair was only a small bag. They were always very frugal with it, but now compared to that, getting more prey was the priority.

Lin Ze said casually, “Then trade whatever you have for this. I’ll give you all this.”

The chieftain was pleasantly surprised and quickly sent a beastman back to fetch the sea salt. With such clear benefits in front of them, he couldn’t afford to care about Lin Ze’s identity as a wandering beastman.

Carefully brought out, the sea salt was only the size of a fist. Lin Ze’s eyes flashed with a hint of disdain. It seemed this tribe was even poorer than he had imagined. How long could such a small amount of salt last? But it was better than nothing.

Once he received the salt, Lin Ze had no interest in lingering. He dropped the pile of prey, wagged his tail, and swiftly departed. The Heila tribe breathed a sigh of relief and happily dragged the prey back.

Lin Ze climbed to the edge of the tree hole and peeked in. He saw Luo Ning playing with the mouse’s tail. He let out a gentle hiss, startling the mouse, which trembled with its red fur shaking.

Luo Ning looked over in surprise. “You’re back.”

It had been too quiet for him alone here. He was so bored.

Lin Ze licked his cheek with his tongue several times, then his vertical pupils glanced around the round opening. His body was too large to fit in easily, getting stuck momentarily. After transforming, he finally squeezed inside, and the once spacious space suddenly felt cramped.

He brought the small lump of salt in front of Luo Ning.

“Is this all?” Luo Ning murmured, “What about all the meat? Is salt really that precious?”

Such a tiny amount, and it was only coarse salt.

Lin Ze smiled. “Only the merfolk from the sea can make sea salt. This is a secret of the merfolk. Female cubs need to consume sea salt, but it can only be traded at the annual tribal trade fair.”

This is the value of rarity. Luo Ning knew simple methods of salt production, but since they didn’t live by the sea, they could only trade at high prices.

With the salt, the flavor of the food would be different. Luo Ning made stir-fried meat slices, wild vegetable and shredded meat soup, and braised chicken with bamboo shoots. The entire flavor was upgraded to the next level.

Luo Ning ate until he was full, licking his lips. Just these simple meat and vegetable dishes made him feel satisfied. The environment had lowered his expectations.

Since they had obtained the salt, there was no need to linger longer. He planned to return home at daybreak. Luo Ning felt that no matter how beautiful the outside world was, it couldn’t compare to the comfort of living in his own cave. When they had come, they had brought many bags and bundles, but now they would return feeling especially light.

Lin Ze quietly tossed the annoying mouse into the grass. He had caught it to keep the little female entertained, but now that he was back, there was no need to keep this ugly thing around.

Luo Ning searched for his pet but found it nowhere, feeling a bit disappointed. His fluffy pet was so soft to hold.

However, he didn’t think much about it and guessed the mouse might have run away on its own, so he stopped worrying. He lay on Lin Ze’s back as they headed back into the forest.

The journey home took two days with many stops. Once they got home, it was time to prepare for moving again.

The sky was slightly overcast. If it rained, the cave could start leaking, and the environment below was already damp, though it had good light.

They moved all the animal skins and clay pots into the new cave. This cave had likely been inhabited by wild beasts before, so they needed to clean out animal bones, dust, and other debris.

The entrance to this cave was small, but the interior was spacious, and through a gap it connected to a smaller cave at the back.

Luo Ning felt very satisfied. The front could be used for living, while the back could serve as a storage room. The entrance was also convenient for making a door. With such hard rock, there was almost no risk of collapse. Compared to some animal skin tents, this place was clearly much more comfortable.

Luo Ning didn’t like sleeping on the ground. It was too hard and made his limbs ache. He wanted to make a simple bed using stones and wooden planks. The house still felt a bit empty, and he needed to slowly make bowls, chopsticks, tables, and chairs.

Lin Ze asked curiously. He always felt that his partner knew a lot, unlike usual females, but rather seemed to come from a big tribe. The ideas he heard from Luo Ning were things he had never encountered before.

Just describing it might not be specific enough, so Luo Ning drew it on the ground and explained each step. Lin Ze was smart, so he understood it after just one explanation.

The two of them got busy. Lin Ze went hunting and chopping trees, while Luo Ning used the planks to pile up the animal skins and tried to sew them into blankets and pillows.

Piece by piece, they added things to their home, which looked warm and cozy, making them feel as if their hearts were being filled.

Luo Ning also added some small decorations: a woven vase on the table filled with bright flowers, plush toys made from animal skins, and a hanging hammock, making it look truly like a home.

Lin Ze was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t realized it before, but now he understood just how cold and dark that cave had once been.

His gaze was fixed on Luo Ning. He realized this was the difference brought by having a partner. He walked over, hugged Luo Ning, and pressed soft kisses along his pale neck, filled with heat and gradually deepening.

Luo Ning felt a tingling sensation all over his body. He breathed a little faster, and his lips were being captured. Unlike the usual forceful and assertive kisses, this one was softer, like gentle spring rain, quietly invading his breath. Slowly, the kiss became fervently passionate like a sudden storm.

Sharp teeth lightly nibbled at his collarbone, sending electric shivers through Luo Ning. He trembled slightly, leaning back uncontrollably, his eyes turning slightly red and teary.

Luo Ning helplessly pushed at Lin Ze’s shoulder, blushing as he said, “We haven’t processed today’s prey yet, stop messing around.”

Lin Ze’s eyes suddenly brightened with a burning intensity. After biting Luo Ning’s lips until they were a deep red, he reluctantly released him.

Suppressing the rising heat within him, Lin Ze finally understood that the blood of a snake beast was not cold.

Once he encountered a cherished and beloved mate, it felt like his whole body was aflame, burning away all rationality.

He reluctantly released Luo Ning, gently caressing his face, his voice hoarse, “Ning Ning, I don’t want to hold back anymore.”

Luo Ning’s face turned bright red, his eyelashes lowered. After hesitating for a moment, he nodded. He understood what Lin Ze meant.

He was indeed willing to become a couple. He liked Lin Ze very much, and although he was scared, he also wanted to take a step closer and be the most intimate person with him.

Lin Ze’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Ning Ning, you agreed?”

Luo Ning mumbled in agreement, avoiding Lin Ze’s gaze. Why was he being asked so persistently? It made him feel uncomfortable.

Lin Ze suddenly smiled widely and gave Luo Ning a hard kiss on the lips before darting away.

Luo Ning was left confused until Lin Ze returned in the evening with a blood-red, translucent fruit, his body marked with scratches and a few drops of blood.

Luo Ning hurried over. “Where did you go? Why are you covered in injuries?”

Lin Ze smiled and handed him the fruit. He lowered his voice suggestively, “This is for the mating tonight.”

Luo Ning’s hand trembled slightly. He hadn’t heard of this kind of fruit and couldn’t find it in his memory, but Lin Ze’s gaze was too suggestive. He could guess its purpose.

Lin Ze had never known what it meant to be subtle. He stated the fruit’s use clearly. Compared to beastmen, female bodies were too weak.

During mating, a female might struggle to endure the male and could easily get hurt, so they often needed to consume this kind of fruit.

This fruit grew on steep cliffs and was generally hard to find, requiring beastmen to expend considerable effort to obtain it. This was also a testament to their feelings for the female. Lin Ze had specifically gone to find this kind of fruit.

Luo Ning’s ears burned. How could there be such a shameful purpose for a fruit? It was like some kind of medicine, making him feel ashamed and annoyed. He gritted his teeth and said he wouldn’t eat it.

But by nightfall, he couldn’t shake the anxiousness in his heart. He felt nervous, with a trace of barely noticeable anticipation and joy. He washed himself thoroughly, making sure he was clean and soft before shyly walking over.

Lin Ze’s gaze had long been fixed on him with burning intensity. After some coaxing, Luo Ning felt dizzy from the kisses he received and ate the fruit. It tasted quite sweet.

Kisses rained down everywhere—his neck, chest, and waist—there wasn’t a spot left untouched. Luo Ning let out soft whimpers, tilting his head slightly, feeling as if he were soaking in warm water, the temperature gradually rising. He felt dazed and slightly suffocated as their breaths intertwined.

Lin Ze had endured for a long time. Now, he was holding Luo Ning’s hand tightly and ignoring his feeble resistance, fulfilling his desires completely.

Before Luo Ning fell asleep, he hazily felt like he had become a pancake, being flipped back and forth, feeling so soft that he couldn’t bear it.

However, he vaguely remembered that the fruit was indeed very effective. Aside from feeling tired and sore, it hadn’t caused him too much pain.
