- Chapter 84 - The Snake Husband in the Beast World (9)
Once Lin Ze confirmed that Luo Ning was within his sight, he felt at ease. His eyes possessively enveloped Luo Ning. After the scare earlier, he wanted to stay even closer, wishing they could always be together.
Luo Ning felt helpless and said softly, “I’m a bit hungry. Let’s go back and eat.”
Lin Ze quickly agreed, worried about making him hungry. He coiled around Luo Ning and soon darted back to the cave entrance. Luo Ning lay on the scales, feeling the coolness against him. He should have been afraid of this soft-bodied beastman.
But now he noticed that the dark green scales were quite beautiful. They shimmered like pure jade in the sunlight.
He reached out to touch them. They were cool and smooth. Lin Ze’s massive body filled the cave entrance, completely covering the flat space.
After transforming back into his human form, Lin Ze skillfully built a fire and took out the prepared quail, continually flipping it as it roasted. Quail was the tenderest meat, with very few bones, making it popular in the tribe. The little female would surely love it.
Lin Ze once again felt incredibly clever. Without any predecessors to teach him, he had naturally learned how to please the little female. By showing strength and thoughtfulness, he could ensure that the little female would stay.
He flipped the quail, and the aroma of the roasting chicken wafted through the air. Luo Ning noticed some wild fruits nearby and walked over happily. These fruits were sweet and delicious, juicy and plump. Not only were they delicious but also perfect for quenching his thirst.
Having someone so considerate made Luo Ning feel unexpectedly good.
A smile spread across his face, his eyes the color of honey, and he handed a piece of fruit to Lin Ze. He remembered that Lin Ze ate a lot, so this fruit would help fill his stomach.
Lin Ze didn’t move his hand. His narrow eyes swept over Luo Ning before he lowered his head, allowing Luo Ning to feed him the fruit. His breath tickled Luo Ning’s fingers like feathers brushing against him.
Feeling a bit annoyed, Luo Ning thought that this stinky snake was being naughty again, always trying to take advantage of him. Luo Ning withdrew his hand in dissatisfaction, wanting to wipe the fruit juice off his hand, but a snake tongue flickered over his fingertips, lingering there with a hint of flirtation, sending a jolt through him.
Luo Ning’s hand trembled as he quickly pulled it back. He was a bit startled, and his face was flushed with embarrassment. Even the tips of his ears under his fluffy and soft curls turned red. He said angrily, “What are you doing?! Aren’t you ashamed?!”
He widened his eyes, realizing it was a silly question. After all, a beastman had no sense of shame. He had long known that this snake had a thick skin and loved to touch him. He could only scold him verbally.
Lin Ze didn’t think there was anything wrong. The little female looked fierce, like a chick that had just hatched, flapping its fluffy wings. He wasn’t scary at all but looked small and weak. He said, “That fruit was really sweet. It’s just a natural reaction for me.”
“Ning Ning can’t blame me. I couldn’t help but want to lick it.”
Luo Ning was even more angry and shoved a piece of fruit to block Lin Ze’s mouth.
Finally, it was quiet. The meat was cooked, and it was time for the feeding that Lin Ze had been looking forward to. He immediately cleaned the meat and tore it into small pieces, bringing them to Luo Ning’s lips. Luo Ning reluctantly tried to refuse, but Lin Ze held him in his arms.
If he said no, Lin Ze would stare at him with such intensity that he had no choice but to obediently open his mouth.
He felt that this snake was too domineering and always had a way to make him compromise.
Luo Ning was annoyed and chewed on the meat fiercely, looking like a little squirrel with his puffed cheeks.
The bird meat had no fishy taste, but it was too bland. Not only were there no spices here, but even the simplest salt was a luxury. Just thinking about it made Luo Ning uncomfortable, and he secretly decided to improve his quality of life.
Luo Ning was full and urged Lin Ze to eat the meat, but Lin Ze didn’t move. Instead, he slowly leaned down and bit Luo Ning’s lips. He looked at his beloved little female with soft eyes. He had been longing for the taste of Luo Ning’s lips, so he couldn’t resist biting again—warm and soft. Lin Ze couldn’t help but probe between his lips.
Luo Ning’s face turned bright red. Even when eating, this shameless snake had to take advantage of him. It was too much. The coolness at his lips felt a bit like refreshing mint, and his warmth seeped into Lin Ze’s soft lips.
It was clear now that Lin Ze had feelings for him and was treating him as a partner.
Lin Ze held Luo Ning’s hand, breathing softly. His dark green eyes deepened. He pressed his forehead against Luo Ning’s and said hoarsely, “Ning Ning, I like you. Will you be my mate?”
“I will always love you and take care of you, keep you warm, and make sure you’re well-fed. Whatever you say, I’ll listen to it. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.”
He knew that a beautiful little female like Luo Ning would be a treasure in the tribe, well cared for.
But he couldn’t let Luo Ning go to the tribe. He was his mate, so he could be selfish. They (snake beastmen) were possessive by nature, wanting to lock the beloved female they loved tightly in their arms, not allowing any other beastman to covet them.
Luo Ning’s eyelashes fluttered. Here it was, the confession. He didn’t reject his feelings for Lin Ze. His heart raced whenever they touched. After all, he had to stay by Lin Ze’s side for life, so being in a romantic relationship wasn’t out of the question.
But Lin Ze was too intense. He was like glue sticking to him. If he agreed right away, Lin Ze wouldn’t hold back.
Ning felt he couldn’t let Lin Ze succeed so easily. He suppressed the corners of his mouth that wanted to curl up and hid the joy in his eyes, huffing, “Not a chance. You don’t treat me well.”
Lin Ze grew anxious. “Then what would count as treating you well? Just tell me, and I’ll do it.”
Luo Ning pretended to ponder for a moment, then began to set conditions. “Are you serious? Can you really promise to listen to everything I say? Will you obey me in everything?”
Lin Ze quickly nodded, answering firmly.
Luo Ning felt happy. “Then you need to remember what you said. But I still can’t just be with you. I need to see your sincerity first.”
Lin Ze didn’t mind this outcome. Although his confession of affection hadn’t been fully reciprocated, Luo Ning’s response was enough to excite him. As long as Luo Ning didn’t dislike him, he was willing to wait.
Males pursuing females should follow a process. He needed to show off well and make the little female comfortable. Lin Ze’s mind was already filled with beautiful daydreams.
Having just confessed his feelings, Lin Ze was overjoyed. Holding the fruit, he took even more care of Luo Ning, being attentive and gentle, which made Luo Ning very satisfied.
The afternoon sunlight spilled through the leaves. Luo Ning didn’t want to lie in the cave idly. When he was alone before, he didn’t dare to walk in the forest, but now that Lin Ze was protecting him, he wanted to explore.
Lying on Lin Ze’s back, they swiftly crossed the grass. The scenery around was completely unfamiliar to Luo Ning, with many plants he didn’t recognize.
It somewhat resembled the elven homes he had seen in movies, with strange plants and tiny sparkling lights, exuding a beautiful vibe.
As they moved forward, the view changed to some low trees. One tree bore snow-white fruits, hanging delicately from slender branches. The white color was almost translucent and the appearance was lustrous.
Seeing it made Luo Ning want to pick some. He patted Lin Ze and pointed at the tree. He said, “Lin Ze, I want to eat that.”
Lin Ze stopped at the edge of the tree. The fruit was edible, but the trunk was a bit high. This was no challenge for Lin Ze. He told Luo Ning to wait, then coiled his body around the trunk, causing the branches to creak under his weight. With a flick of his tail, the fruits fell to the ground.
Luo Ning peeled the fruit and discovered the flesh inside was his favorite milk flavor. His eyes sparkled with surprise as he licked his lips. It was rich and sweet, completely surprising him.
Such delicious fruit, of course, he wanted to pick more. Not being able to hold it in his hands, Luo Ning quickly wove a basket out of grass and secured it on Lin Ze’s body, then hopped on to continue forward.
No need to walk, they enjoyed the scenery along the way like tourists. This forest was vast and seemingly endless.
Lin Ze’s cold vertical pupils glanced at the tree above, noticing several nests. He recalled that the eggs of the red-billed bird were good.
He had seen beastmen collecting these eggs during his previous trips outside. It was said that they did it to please the females.
Lin Ze narrowed his eyes. As an excellent beastman, he naturally had to find good food for his mate. His little female had weak teeth, was picky about food, and was thin. He needed to be fed until he was plump.
Lin Ze set his sights on those eggs. He told Luo Ning to stay behind the tree. With agile movements, he climbed up, the tall tree offering no hindrance to him, making it easy as if he were walking on flat ground.
Luo Ning watched nervously and saw that the bird nests up there were as big as bathtubs. Clearly, the birds that built those nests were not ordinary creatures. When soaring in the sky, their claws glinted coldly, making them seem fierce. He was afraid that while Lin Ze was halfway up, those vicious birds would return.
Lin Ze moved quickly, soon bringing down a red bird egg. This egg was more than enough for his little female.
Luo Ning hurriedly climbed onto him, clutching the egg as they quickly left.
The bird was robust, and their eggs were the size of a football. Luo Ning didn’t know how to eat it, so he decided to roast it.
Seeing Lin Ze preparing the meat, he rushed to the fire. Lin Ze’s roasting skills weren’t great, and the meat turned out dry and tough. Luo Ning insisted on doing it himself.
Without any salt, he squeezed some fruit juice on the outside, roasting it until it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It tasted much more delicious.
The smooth and fragrant egg filled him up, and Luo Ning’s mouth had little bits of crumbs from chewing it. This was probably the best meal he had eaten.
Lin Ze felt a pang of heartache. A female should be well taken care of in the tribe. Something like this should be offered to him on a plate. Yet, his partner had never even tasted it!
How hard must it have been for him outside? Perhaps he had been pitifully crying. Lin Ze felt anxious and silently decided to make up for everything in the future.
He hugged Luo Ning tightly and softly stroked his hair.
Luo Ning didn’t know what Lin Ze was imagining. He had already gotten used to his occasional affection.
