- Chapter 76 - The Snake Husband in the Beast World (1)
Luo Ning returned to the system space. After resting for a while, he touched the tear at the corner of his eye. Confusion flashed in his eyes. Why did he cry?
He felt a lingering sense of loss in his heart, as if he had forgotten something important.
He remembered the system mentioning that for the sake of the tasker’s emotional state, it would delete some memories.
Luo Ning silently curled up in a corner, his eyelids lowered, unsure whether to feel lost or relieved. If he had truly experienced something important, losing it now would make it impossible for him to continue.
The system’s cheerful voice chimed in, “Ning Ning is really great! Congratulations on completing another mission.”
“Next it’s time for the lottery. You might win a top-tier treasure.”
Luo Ning perked up, his eyes finally gaining a glimmer of light. He sighed gently, pushing aside his worries, and lightly moved his fingers. The large wheel spun rapidly.
Eventually, it stopped in a certain area. The prize was called “Photographic Memory.” As the name suggested, it granted extraordinary memory.
Compared to other prizes, it was quite ordinary, but it was better than nothing.
Luo Ning wasn’t disappointed and said, “Xiao Ba, let’s go to the next world.”
…
In a forest where the sun was obscured, the leaves were dense, allowing only a bit of sunlight to filter through. Everywhere were towering trees and unknown vegetation. Bird nests the size of bathtubs rested on the trees. Nearby were thorny flowers, making it hard to discern the path ahead.
Luo Ning cautiously crouched behind the grass, his expression tense. Once he saw the enormous bucktoothed rabbit bounce away did he finally exhale. “Xiao Ba, what kind of place is this? Even the rabbits are so fierce. Can I survive this?”
Everything before him exceeded his understanding. Even in the most primitive forests, plants and animals shouldn’t be this bizarre. Only after receiving the original owner’s memories and information about this world did he realize that he was in the Beast World.
The level of development was comparable to primitive society, but this world was slightly more fantastical. Beastmen, or males, made up the majority of the population.
They could maintain human forms but could also transform into beast forms. The rare females were extremely precious.
Since females couldn’t transform into beasts, they were physically weaker and were protected by various beastman tribes. They were not allowed to leave easily.
However, being confined together, some curious females desired to escape. The protagonist was one of them.
He wanted to see the outside world and ran out of the territory. When he faced real danger, he finally felt fear, but by then, he was already far away from the tribe.
When he almost got bitten by a wild beast, he was saved by a snake beastman named Lin Ze, who later became the darkened male supporting character.
After escaping danger, the protagonist timidly followed Lin Ze. The snake beasts were unpopular among the tribes due to their cold-blooded nature, not to mention that Lin Ze was a ruthless wandering beastman without a home. The protagonist was very scared and secretly on guard, looking for a chance to return home.
Even though the snake beastman treated him well, the protagonist remained afraid. Finally, his tribesmen came to rescue him. But not wanting anyone to know that he had sneaked out and to avoid the tribe’s accusations, he lied by saying the snake beastman had abducted him from the tribe.
Thus, the snake beastman was severely injured and had its eyes gouged out, while the protagonist returned safely to the tribe and obediently married his childhood sweetheart, living a happy life.
The snake beastman couldn’t accept this injustice and went on a rampage. Of course, it was no match for the protagonist’s halo and ended up dying in the wilderness.
