Upon hearing Luo Ning’s words, Song FengXiao suddenly recalled that his mother had mentioned twice feeling discomfort in her lower abdomen and experiencing a bloated stomach. She thought it was just indigestion and took some medicine.

Recently, her cough had persisted. She said she wanted to go to the hospital to make an appointment, but his parents were frugal and often busy with business, so it was delayed for several days.

Given the past years of hardships that left her with many hidden illnesses, it was time for a thorough checkup at the hospital to treat any minor problems.

It was through this early checkup that Song Fengxiao learned his mother had been hiding her condition from him, putting on a brave front while suffering from persistent stomach pain.

According to the doctor, the current symptoms looked like gastritis, but if left untreated, it could develop into stomach cancer. In the early stages of stomach cancer, symptoms are often subtle and easily ignored. It was usually diagnosed at a middle or advanced stage, so regular attention was important.

A grave expression appeared on Song Fengxiao’s face, revealing his inner unease. He had a feeling that if they hadn’t come for the checkup this time, it would have led to a different and worse outcome. The thought of stomach cancer made him feel a pang of fear.

After returning from the hospital, he firmly prohibited his mother from working too hard, urging her to take care of her health. Running a small supermarket wasn’t overly tiring, yet during lunchtime, his mother often rushed to handle business, barely eating, which led to her poor eating habits and caused stomach problems over time.

Song Fengxiao remembered the doctor’s instructions and diligently monitored his mother’s medication and recovery. He knew that her health shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Thinking that it was Luo Ning who inadvertently reminded him, Song Fengxiao thought about expressing his gratitude through a small gift. He initially planned to buy a small cake. After all, he remembered how the little bee loved sweets. Perhaps it was because of the sugar that he spoke so sweetly.

Carrying a box of strawberry cakes, he passed a street corner and saw a cozy and charming shop. Song Fengxiao quickly spotted the beautiful scarves and gloves inside.

The air was still chilly, almost biting, sending shivers down his neck. The little bee was particularly sensitive to the cold. His hands and feet were always cold, and he wished he could just wrap himself up into a small ball.

Song Fengxiao lingered outside the shop for a moment before stepping inside. A handsome young sales assistant immediately greeted him and enthusiastically recommended men’s scarves.

Most of the colors were grey or black, and the styles were similar, which didn’t appeal to Song Fengxiao. He felt like they wouldn’t suit Luo Ning.

Instead, he picked up a white scarf from a rack across the way. It was simple and fresh, embroidered with a round little bee on the corner.

He touched the cute little bee design. He found it suitable for Luo Ning and decided to buy it.

Luo Ning had no idea that he had a nickname in Song Fengxiao’s mind. At this moment, he excitedly held the scarf, happily wrapping it around his neck. The soft texture felt so comfortable. He never expected Song Fengxiao would buy him a small gift, let alone such a thoughtful scarf. It was evident that Song Fengxiao’s taste wasn’t that of a typical straight guy. It was rather good.

Luo Ning couldn’t help but touch it happily, his eyes curving into a smile. “Brother Song, it’s so warm! I love it.”

Song Fengxiao felt a twinge of happiness, a sensation like cat paws gently scratching his heart. This was the first time he had given Luo Ning a gift. Seeing Luo Ning’s joyful expression made him a little happy too. Noticing a bit of cream on Luo Ning’s lips, he instinctively reached out to wipe it off, his fingertip brushing against Luo Ning’s soft lips.

Feeling that soft texture, Song Fengxiao’s fingers paused. He thought about the sweet taste lingering on those lips, and he felt an inexplicable urge.

Song Fengxiao was startled, his eyes blank for a moment.

He quickly withdrew his hand in panic, feeling that his thoughts were absurd. He rubbed his fingertips together, which felt warm from the touch.

Luo Ning licked his lips, a bit embarrassed for needing Song Fengxiao to wipe his mouth after eating a cake.

“Brother Song, do you want to have some too?” He wanted to share the delicious strawberry cake.

Song Fengxiao shook his head. He hardly felt like eating cake right now. Just as he was trying to regain his composure, he noticed Luo Ning sitting beside him with a serious expression.

“Brother Song, I have something to tell you.”

Luo Ning leaned in closely, his clear eyes reflecting his figure, his small brows slightly furrowed, hinting at some hesitation.

Song Fengxiao’s heart suddenly raced, unsure where it had flown off to. The little bee was looking straight at him and speaking with such a serious expression—what was he about to say?

Could it be that he was planning to confess his feelings?

A few days ago, this little bee had already hinted to him. Today he even brought a gift. Did the little bee not hold back on wanting to say something?

Song Fengxiao shifted his body, his ears perked up with nervous anticipation. He even felt a hint of hope. If it was really that, how should he respond? Maybe they should just wait until after high school graduation to figure it all out.

Just when Song Fengxiao’s imagination was running wild, Luo Ning spoke up, “Brother Song, I won’t be coming over tomorrow. We probably won’t see each other during this winter break.”

“I’m going out with my dad to have some fun. I won’t be able to spend New Year’s with you.”

Luo Ning had wanted to celebrate New Year with Song Fengxiao and his friends—that would be so meaningful! But his father was always busy, and now that his father finally had some free time, he couldn’t refuse.

Song Fengxiao’s thoughts were shattered, and he was still a little confused. So that was what it was about?

They wouldn’t be able to see each other for the whole winter break?

After a moment of silence, Song Fengxiao pretended to be indifferent and replied lightly, “Then have fun.”

Luo Ning said softly, “Brother Song, let’s still call each other every day. See you again when school starts.”

Since Luo Ning didn’t come over, the other side of Song Fengxiao’s desk felt empty. He couldn’t help but glance at it occasionally, suddenly feeling a sense of stillness.

At this moment, Luo Ning was already carrying his luggage and following his father to see the snow-capped mountains. The layers of silver frost were particularly stunning and beautiful. Luo Ning would share the photos he took with Song Fengxiao, and they would chat endlessly at night.

But the schedule organized by his father was packed with exciting activities. Luo Ning got so caught up in the fun that he occasionally forgot to message Song Fengxiao. One day, after a luxurious soak in a hot spring, he felt so relaxed and sleepy. He fell asleep as soon as he got back to the hotel.

Song Fengxiao put down his pen and leaned back against the headboard. This was the twenty-third time he had picked up his phone. Still, there were no messages or calls at all.

He opened the messaging app, typed a message, and quickly deleted it. It was already eleven o’clock, and he resisted the urge to sleep, but his phone remained silent.

Song Fengxiao looked at the last chat history with displeasure, feeling somewhat frustrated. That little bee was truly a little liar.

Weren’t they supposed to talk every day? Not even a shadow of a message had come through.

Had he forgotten about him completely because he was having too much fun? Not a single word from his promise came true.

Song Fengxiao made a decision. He wouldn’t reach out to this little bee for the next week.

Fine, fine, he decided to give the little bee one more chance.

While lying on his pillow, Song Fengxiao waited an additional twenty minutes, staring hard at his phone. However, it still didn’t show any signs of life.

He couldn’t help but glare at it resentfully, angrily tossing his phone aside.

When his phone rang the next morning, he glanced over and saw a familiar name but didn’t immediately answer. He even threw the phone a bit further away. So now he remembered him? It was too late…

He had said he would ignore this little bee, and he meant it. Song Fengxiao’s expression was cold and resolute as he ignored the ringtone.

He waited frantically, hesitating several times before finally going over. He wanted to hear what excuses were coming from the other end.

But as soon as he got close, the call ended. Had it been hung up that quickly?

Song Fengxiao stared at the number in frustration.

He angrily swiped open his phone, finding that not a single message had been sent.

The little bee had indeed changed!

Always sweet-talking about missing him, but when it came down to it, the reality was completely different. Once he flew away, he left him behind. If he really wanted to call, why end the call so quickly? It showed no sincerity at all!

Was he no longer the idol Luo Ning most admired? Was this how he pursued someone?

Could it be that after spending so much time together, the little bee forgot to cherish their connection?

Feeling agitated, Song Fengxiao’s phone rang again. This time, he didn’t hesitate and accepted the video call. He put on a cold and indifferent expression, showing that his mood was bad.

Luo Ning appeared, his hair slightly messy and still wearing cow-print pajamas, as if he had just woken up. After glancing at Song Fengxiao’s expression, he quickly explained, “Brother Song, I’m really sorry. I fell asleep right away last night.”

“I forgot to say goodnight to you.”

“You didn’t wait for my call, did you?”

Song Fengxiao replied stiffly, “Of course not. I went to bed early too.”

“There’s not much to talk about every day, so your not calling doesn’t matter.”

Luo Ning: But looking at your dark face, that’s not how you feel at all.

He realized he had slept too heavily. Sensing Song Fengxiao’s bad mood, he began to shower him with flattery: “Brother Song, I know you don’t care, but I do. I’ve gotten used to hearing your voice every day. Otherwise, I feel so down.”

“I miss you so much. It’s already hard not being able to see you in person, and now we don’t even get to talk on the phone. How can my little heart handle that?”

“Today, I’ll talk to you for four hours to make up for yesterday.”

Song Fengxiao’s dark expression softened. A slight smile appeared at the corners of his lips, and the frustration dissipated. He couldn’t help but feel a little pleased. He cleared his throat. “You don’t need to exaggerate so much.”

“I don’t have that much time to spend talking with you.”

Luo Ning felt like he was facing a proud cat. He quickly looked at him expectantly. “I just want to see you more, Brother Song. Can you keep the video on?”

Song Fengxiao hummed gently in agreement and reluctantly kept the video call on.

After finally smoothing the cat’s fur, Luo Ning hung up and felt a bit thirsty. He went to get a glass of water to soothe his throat and then sent another photo of Song Fengxiao. “Brother Song, I took a screenshot. You look super handsome from this angle. I’m going to use it as my wallpaper.”

Song Fengxiao sent back a “thumbs up” emoji. After chatting for so long, he wondered how many pictures Luo Ning had secretly saved of him.

What a pervert!

But Song Fengxiao didn’t mind. If the other person wanted to take pictures of him, he would find various ways to do so. He couldn’t stop him.

Turning his eyes back outside, he felt the weather was really nice.
