Song FengXiao furrowed his brows tightly and quickly ran to the infirmary, carefully laying Luo Ning down.

The school clinic was reasonably well-equipped. After examining him, the school nurse concluded that Luo Ning had a twisted ankle and a minor concussion from the impact. She applied medication meticulously.

After a while, Luo Ning finally began to regain his composure. He inwardly cursed Qiao Yuming, that damn bastard. His head throbbed painfully, and his ankle felt like it was being stabbed with needles. He had red-rimmed eyes, with tears threatening to spill. Because he had a delicate skin, the pain was intensified.

Luo Ning looked at Song Fengxiao with grievance and whispered, “Brother Song, it hurts.”

This was the first time Song Fengxiao saw Luo Ning cry, his eyes swollen from crying. His heart tightened, and he felt uneasy. He gently smoothed Luo Ning’s hair and pushed aside the damp strands clinging to his forehead. He struggled to find comforting words, only managing only a stiff, “Don’t cry.”

Luo Ning had never felt such gentleness from Song Fengxiao. Being cared for made him feel even more wronged. He blinked away his tears, clung to Song Fengxiao’s hand, and rubbed against him obediently for comfort.

With Luo Ning’s soft and warm presence nearby and seeing his eyes glistening with unshed tears, Song Fengxiao endured the discomfort of being treated like a pillow, standing next to him for a while. His breathing became shallow. Luo Ning’s eyelids grew heavy, the tip of his little nose a bit red. He gradually dozed off.

The school nurse stole a curious glance, thinking Luo Ning looked quite pitiful. However, she also found their interaction a bit odd. Was this how good friends acted, so clingy?

With the school nurse watching over Luo Ning, Song Fengxiao returned to the classroom to request leave for Luo Ning.

Luo Ning couldn’t attend classes in his condition and needed to rest at home for a few days.

Mr. Luo inquired about the situation and then called Luo Ning’s parents, asking Luo Ning’s father to come pick him up.

Luo Ning’s father rushed to the school and found his son lying weakly in the infirmary, his ankle swollen like a bun and a large bump on the back of his head. He was heartbroken and quickly took Luo Ning to the hospital for another check-up. His son had never suffered like this before.

Upon learning that it was Qiao Yuming who caused the injury and seeing the surveillance footage of Qiao Yuming pushing Luo Ning down the stairs while watching coldly, Luo Ning’s father was immediately furious, wishing he could punch that bastard Qiao Yuming to death.

Fueled by anger, he went to the Qiao family to demand an answer on how they planned to solve the situation. It was one thing to look down on his son, but now they had resorted to violence! Thinking of Qiao Yuming’s consistent misbehavior, Luo Ning’s father felt a deep disgust for him. He was determined to sever all business ties with the Qiao family. If they could raise such an ill-mannered child, he had strong reservations about them.

Although the Qiao family was a renowned listed company, they still paled in comparison to the Luo family and relied on Luo family connections. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have needed to persuade Qiao Yuming to pursue Luo Ning again.

Now, with the engagement broken and animosity brewing, this was undoubtedly a significant loss for the Qiao family.

Qiao Yuming’s parents tried to manage the situation with forced smiles, apologizing profusely. But secretly, they were fuming. Never had they expected that their son would be so willful and unreliable, causing them this much trouble.

After thoroughly venting his anger, Luo Ning’s father stormed away.

Mr. Qiao and Mrs. Qiao immediately told Qiao Yuming to come back home and slapped him hard, leaving his face bruised and swollen and his ears ringing. Qiao Yuming was in disbelief and shouted, “Dad, you actually hit me?!”

His face reddened, veins bulging on his forehead, clearly resentful.

Mr. Qiao and Mrs. Qiao looked even more displeased. They couldn’t understand when their son had become so foolish and reckless. How would he inherit the company with such behavior?

“We’re not asking much from you to contribute to the company, at least you should try to be more responsible and not drag us down.”

“If you keep being willful, we’ll send you abroad for some self-reflection!”

Qiao Yuming stubbornly refused to speak, suppressing his anger. How could he go abroad when he wanted to be with Cheng Yu?

He locked himself in his room and thought of a way to vent his anger. He pulled out his phone to bombard Luo Ning with insults. But fearing Luo Ning would tell others, he furiously tossed his phone aside.

Recalling how Song Fengxiao dared to kick him, Qiao Yuming gritted his teeth and instructed his followers at school to teach Song Fengxiao a lesson. He wasn’t someone easy to mess with. He wanted to see Song Fengxiao beaten half to death before he could be so hypocritical!

So after self-study that evening, three unruly boys approached Song Fengxiao as he walked back to the dorm, cornering him against the trees. They sneered, “Feeling proud, huh? Thinking good grades make you special?”

“You still wear that tattered school uniform every day!”

Song Fengxiao calmly walked into the shadows, brushing aside their prodding hands. He was prepared to confront them in a composed way.

The three boys felt humiliated and cursed. Since they were in a dark area and Song Fengxiao was just alone, the three boys grew bolder. They threw punches at Song Fengxiao.

They expected Song Fengxiao to fall weakly or run in fear, but he easily dodged the punch.

With precision, he landed a heavy blow to one boy’s abdomen and then elbowed another in the back. He appeared thin, but his muscles were strong and well-defined. His strikes were heavy and powerful and full of ferocity.

The three boys hunched over in pain, unable to straighten their backs, as if their bones were about to shatter, their teeth chattering from fear.

Seeing the formidable side of Song Fengxiao shattered their preconceived notions that he was just a bookish pretty boy.

They felt furious and humiliated. They continued to attack him, but their cries of pain echoed from the shadows. The three boys, whose faces were twisted in pain, could barely stand up.

They glared at Song Fengxiao with hatred and fear, not daring to come closer again. They endured the pain in their bodies and quickly retreated, supporting each other as they fled.

They were too embarrassed to report the truth to Qiao Yuming, only responding with vague “uh-huhs” over the phone. They knew they hadn’t been able to teach Song Fengxiao a lesson and would surely face Qiao Yuming’s wrath, so they planned to keep this humiliating incident to themselves.

But the next day, they were called to the dean’s office, where they received a stern reprimand for violating school rules and for physically assaulting a fellow student. They would have to accept a disciplinary record, write a self-reflection, and apologize to Song Fengxiao.

Given that the incident involved Song Fengxiao, the dean paid particular attention to it. After all, Song Fengxiao was the top student in their school and was expected to become the provincial champion and improve the school’s reputation. Such a promising talent deserved protection against bullying. What if something serious happened?

Plus, the three boys were not particularly tough characters. They needed to be dealt with seriously.

While the trio denied their involvement, they had chosen a spot last night where the dim light and lack of surveillance footage would make their actions untraceable, assuming they could get away without evidence. But now, they needed to provide evidence. They felt particularly wronged.

They didn’t even hit Song Fengxiao. Instead, they ended up hurt. Song Fengxiao had reported them first!

Each of them stubbornly denied it, saying they hadn’t seen Song Fengxiao yesterday and that it was just a misunderstanding and they were being honest.

But even if they tried to defend themselves, there was no surveillance footage, but there was audio evidence—their voices shouting and cursing at Song Fengxiao.

Their faces turned ashen. Damn it! Song Fengxiao was too calculated! Who knew he could be so cunning!

With no way to dodge the blame, they emerged from the office defeated, angrily starting on the self-reflection they dreaded the most.

Meanwhile, Luo Ning had been resting in bed for several days, applying ointment to his injuries and sipping on nourishing soup. Although his slightly dizzy head had recovered, his ankle remained as swollen as a steamed bun.

Sitting like this every day, Luo Ning’s back and waist felt a bit sore. He spent his days reading books, watching TV, and playing on his phone. He started to worry that he might become decadent. By the time he felt a bit better, he considered whether he should return to school.

The results of the monthly exams were released that day, and his scores were even higher than he had expected. Although his Chinese and Math grades dragged him down, his overall rank rose to the middle position. He was no longer at the bottom.

After the results were tallied, Mr. Luo would send them to the respective parents. Luo Ning’s father didn’t usually focus on grades, but he recalled his son’s recent dedication to studying and attending class, even forgoing games.

He took a glance at the scores out of curiosity. His eyes widened in disbelief. He seriously doubted if he was seeing things due to overworking. He checked again. His son had not only managed to achieve double digits but had even scored triple digits in some subjects! How was this even possible?

Luo Ning’s father recalled his son’s previous report cards and compared them to now. Although the ranking hadn’t jumped to the top, the improvement within a short time was astonishing!

It seemed that his son, like him, was indeed very smart. He just hadn’t taken studying seriously before. Now that he had developed an interest in learning, his potential was finally on display.

Feeling gratified, Luo Ning’s father shared the news on his WeChat Moments and happily knocked on his son’s door to praise him, even insisting on raising his allowance.

Luo Ning’s face turned red from the compliments. Before going to sleep, he rolled over in bed. He pulled out his phone and excitedly texted Song Fengxiao, “Brother Song, I did really well this time! I jumped over twenty ranks!”

“Praise me.jpg…”

“Thanks to you for guiding me in studying, I improved so quickly. Brother Song, you’re like a godsend friend!”

“Hug.jpg…”

Song Fengxiao ignored the emoji. A hug was one thing, but this little bee was asking for too much. He held his phone, organized his thoughts, and encouraged him, “Keep it up next time.”

Luo Ning pouted. Wasn’t this a bit too stern? Could he say a little more?

However, he understood Song Fengxiao’s personality. If he were to ever become chatty, that would be truly strange.

With the motivation from his results, Luo Ning wanted to go back to school even more. But his father disagreed, worried about him encountering any issues at school. Since he couldn’t move around well and had no one to take care of him, he insisted that Luo Ning rest until his ankle healed.

Luo Ning was left to rest for a few more days. He was either rolling on the sofa or cruising around in a wheelchair. His father was busy at work, so his days felt empty. Everyone knew he spent his time reading during the day, so they didn’t try to chat with him. He was so bored that he felt like he was going crazy. He looked forward to the nights when Song Fengxiao would send him study materials so he could talk to him.
