Luo Ning, with a protruding belly, found that except for some inconveniences in movement, he faced no other troubles. His body was in good health, looking plump and warm in his layered rabbit-fur cotton clothes, which made his skin appear even fairer. His brows were free of worry, and his eyes were bright and clear. He resembled a pampered young master who was cherished and protected, free from worldly troubles.

This deeply wounded Luo Qing’s eyes. She looked down at her own calloused hands. The contrast was so ironic. It felt as though everything had returned to her previous life. She worked hard to survive but couldn’t even compare to a finger of Luo Ning. Luo Qing laughed, her eyes suddenly flashing with strong hatred. She stared viciously at Luo Ning’s belly.

Even if she was having a hard time, Luo Ning shouldn’t think he could enjoy life without consequences. She wanted them both to suffer together.

Luo Ning instinctively felt a sense of danger and remembered the system’s alert. He realized that Luo Qing had returned, and panic surged within him. Without a second thought, he turned around and dashed into the house. Luo Qing was definitely lurking for revenge. How could he, with his large belly, defend against her?

Suddenly, he heard a rush of wind behind him. Luo Qing was swift and agile, charging at Luo Ning with a knife, her expression ruthless and determined. She had no more reservations. She was prepared for the worst outcome. All she wanted was to eliminate this stumbling block!

It felt as though she could already hear the knife piercing Luo Ning, and Luo Qing’s eyes widened slightly. She was on the verge of erasing her shadow of fear.

In a matter of moments, Luo Ning rushed into the courtyard and skillfully shut the door behind him. But he didn’t expect that at the last moment, Luo Qing would shove her hand in, forcefully slamming the door open despite the pain it caused.

Sweat dripped from Luo Ning’s forehead as he frantically tried to think of a solution. Suddenly, a scream rang out. The once aggressive Luo Qing was now thrown backward, crashing to the ground and unable to move.

Xie Chunian’s face was cold as he kicked the knife on the ground away. Upon returning, he had seen Luo Qing frantically trying to kill his little husband. His heart nearly stopped. He tightly hugged Luo Ning, pressing him close. He stroked Luo Ning’s hair, his face serious, though his hand trembled uncontrollably. “It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”

His voice was extremely hoarse, suppressing the panic inside. He could hardly bear to imagine what would have happened if he hadn’t returned in time.

With a cold gaze, he surveyed the culprit. His dark eyes changed, and he placed his foot firmly on Luo Qing’s arm, exerting all his strength. A crack echoed as her arm gave way. She cried out in pain, cold sweat covering her forehead.

Luo Qing lay there in disarray. Her teeth were chattering, her eyes were red and swollen, and her hair was a tangled mess. Her expression was crazed as she glared hatefully at Xie Chunian and then turned to Luo Ning, a wave of resentment and regret washing over her. Why hadn’t she been able to kill this bitch? Why was it that this bitch always had such good fortune!

Jealousy twisted around Luo Qing like vines, deeply embedding itself and causing her great pain.

She felt that her life shouldn’t have turned out this way.

Luo Qing hissed at Xie Chunian, “You should have married me! How can you treasure this bitch? You deserve to die too!”

“You two won’t find happiness, and you’ll separate sooner or later. That bitch has a rotten life, he’ll die young!”

Xie Chunian’s anger flared, and he was filled with hatred towards Luo Qing. Luo Ning hadn’t expected that Luo Qing would be so extreme. He and Xie Chunian had done nothing wrong, yet they were the target of Luo Qing’s hatred. Instead of reflecting on her own miserable life, Luo Qing chose to vent her resentment on them.

Luo Ning stepped forward and pulled Xie Chunian back, attempting to restore his senses. Such a person was certainly detestable, but if they fought back, and something happened to Luo Qing, they would be facing trouble.

To prevent Luo Qing from retaliating, Luo Ning yelled first, “There’s been a murder! Help! Someone!”

When people arrived, Luo Ning clutched his belly with a pale face. He recounted Luo Qing’s actions in a trembling voice, “If my husband hadn’t come back in time, both I and the child in my belly would be in grave danger.”

“Turns out my sister wishes for my death. The first thing she did upon returning was to try and kill me.”

The villagers were shocked. They didn’t even know when Luo Qing had come back. Not only had she returned to the village secretly, but she also committed such a cruel act. Luo Ger was her brother! They had no grudge against each other, so why would she attempt to kill him? What a heart of a snake! Her nature was already twisted. After disappearing for a few months, she had probably gone completely vicious.

Xie Chunian sought help to detain Luo Qing and took Luo Ning to see the doctor first. Although Luo Ning was unharmed, he had been frightened. It was very dangerous for pregnant men to be startled. They couldn’t afford any mishaps.

After confirming with the doctor that there were no big issues, Xie Chunian finally felt relieved. He touched Luo Ning’s face, noticing how small and fragile he looked with his big belly. As soon as they returned to the village, Xie Chunian took Luo Qing to see the authorities. Such a person needed to be punished.

The village chief wanted to intervene. He understood that Luo Qing’s actions were despicable, but what would happen to Xinghua Village’s reputation with someone like her?

If they reported her, everyone would know about the incident, and who would want to marry the girls from Xinghua Village?

Xie Chunian recognized the chief’s concerns. “Who says Luo Qing is from Xinghua Village?”

The village chief instantly understood and stopped blocking him. He simply announced that Luo Qing had already been expelled from Xinghua Village before the New Year and was no longer considered a villager, which meant she had no place left in Xinghua Village.

Even Mrs. Luo didn’t dare to plead for her daughter. In an instant, she seemed to have aged many years. Luo Qing was her daughter. Even if she was disgraceful, there was still a mother’s heartache. She thought Luo Qing had been unhappy outside and wanted to return to live a stable life, only to find out she wanted to harm others.

Thinking of this made Mrs. Luo feel that she no longer knew her daughter, and she was terrified. Luo Qing, who had once been too afraid to kill a chicken, now dared to use a knife against someone. Would she not hesitate to kill her own mother one day if she was angry?

Luo Qing was taken to the county government office. At first, she gritted her teeth and refused to confess, but everyone from Xinghua Village could testify that Luo Qing had gone to Luo Ning’s home to commit the crime. There were even scratches on the door from where she had stabbed the knife at Luo Ning.

When they arrived, they had also heard her muttering for Luo Ning to die. She couldn’t possibly deny that.

Luo Qing thought she was fearless, but when faced with the situation, she panicked. She had never knelt in a government office or been questioned like this before.

She couldn’t keep calm. Under persistent questioning, her words were riddled with inconsistencies and she accidentally revealed most of the truth.

When Luo Qing realized what was happening, a chill ran down her back. She listened to the charges against her in horror and retreated in fear. She shouldn’t have been so impulsive. Even if she wanted to kill Luo Ning, she should have been careful and planned it out. How could she have lost her mind like that?

Luo Qing was unwilling to end up in such a situation. She frantically tried to escape but was beaten back by the county guards. The sentence was handed down: she would spend three years in prison. Luo Qing broke down crying and screaming. She knew her life was ruined. No one would respect a woman who had been imprisoned. In her daze, she hoped this was all just a dream. She would even prefer to continue living a poor life from her previous life.

At first, Luo Qing dreamed of her previous life, filled with struggles but mundane.

But later she found herself in a completely different dream. In this dream, she was not in such a pitiful state. Luo Ning wasn’t so lucky either. She easily devised a scheme to frame Luo Ning, successfully causing Xie Chunian to divorce Luo Ning. Xie Chunian didn’t like her, so she killed him. She then became successful in business and eventually married a wealthy and powerful man.

Luo Qing couldn’t help but laugh. But when she woke up, it was not the luxurious bed and soft pillows of her dream. Instead, she faced the cold cage of a prison, its filthy walls surrounding her.

Again and again, dreams blended with reality, driving Luo Qing nearly insane. She began to ponder why she had been so fixated on Xie Chunian. If she had not harmed Luo Ning, would the outcome have been different?

…

Luo Qing’s incident buzzed around the village for a while. The village chief took the opportunity to warn the villagers, advising them not to ruin their lives over a fleeting thought.

Everyone had their own lives to live, and gradually they put Luo Qing out of their minds.

However, Xie Chunian took a long time to recover. He woke up in a cold sweat one night, relieved to see his little husband peacefully asleep beside him. He slowly tightened his arms around Luo Ning.

Luo Ning lifted his hand and wrapped it around Xie Chunian’s neck, kissing him softly. Their lips brushed together, coaxing Xie Chunian to relax. Xie Chunian had been too tense lately. It was obvious from the dark circles under his eyes these past few days.

Xie Chunian securely held Luo Ning’s waist, his lips parting to draw in Luo Ning’s breath. He bit down on Luo Ning’s tongue until it went numb, as if he wanted to eat him whole. Luo Ning’s breathing quickened, his face flushed, and his eyes glistened with tears. Pressed against Xie Chunian’s warm chest, his mind blurry as he thought, fortunately he was carrying a child, or he would surely get tossed around like a pancake again.

After a while, their breathing slowed down. Luo Ning turned over and suddenly felt a kick from his belly. He furrowed his brow, and just as he was about to close his eyes, there was another movement.

Luo Ning reached down to feel his round belly. Soon, he clearly sensed something moving inside.

It was his little one kicking him.

Despite never having eaten pork, he had seen pigs run before. He had watched so many TV dramas, so he naturally understood what fetal movement felt like. After calculating the months, the baby was indeed at the stage where it could stretch its legs and kick him.

This experience was magical for Luo Ning, and at the same time, he had a subtle feeling. As he accepted this new body, he watched his belly grow bigger day by day, from unfamiliar to familiar, and then to endearing. His feelings for the child inside him deepened, and each small movement filled him with joy.

Luo Ning quickly pulled Xie Chunian’s hand. “It’s moving. It must be saying hello to us!”

Xie Chunian didn’t understand immediately. But when he felt the slight bulge in his palm, his eyes widened in surprise. His reaction was even more silly than Luo Ning’s.

When Xie Chunian turned his head and saw Luo Ning’s smile, his heart melted completely. He placed his hand back on Luo Ning’s belly gently, filled with careful curiosity.

Both new fathers became excited and wanted to feel it again. Unfortunately, after a short while, the baby inside became lazy and stopped moving.
