Xie Chunian was not polite and bit down on his little husband’s flushed face. It was softer than a pastry. He sucked on it, his lips moving to capture the tender lips. His large hand tightly encircled his little husband’s waist. His heavy body covered him, his breath growing increasingly hot. He swallowed the soft whimpers of the person under him.

Xie Chunian’s chest was burning, and his lips were hot. It made Luo Ning feel like he was in a warm stove. His mind was muddled, and his consciousness was in a mess.

The summer night was still a bit hot. Luo Ning was feeling dizzy and stuffed. He let out an uncomfortable hum. He weakly pushed against the hot chest beside him while his feet kicked at the blanket uncomfortably.

Xie Chunian clumsily patted his back, softly coaxing him. He got out of bed to fetch a basin of water and carefully wiped away the sweat from his little husband’s brows, making Luo Ning feel refreshed. The frown on Luo Ning’s brow relaxed. He tugged at Xie Chunian’s hair and fell into a deep sleep.

Xie Chunian leaned closer and pinched Luo Ning’s cheek with a gentle expression. He now understood why men wanted to marry. Having a little husband by his side felt wonderful. He couldn’t help but look forward to their life together.

The sky always brightened quickly at this time of year. When the rooster crowed, Luo Ning, who wadls still half sleep, rolled over. Xie Chunian quietly got up, dressed, and drove the chickens outside.

He fed the chickens, swept the yard, and went to the kitchen to cook. Although he was a burly man, his porridge wasn’t bad.

But it was barely edible. Thinking his little husband might be a bit delicate, Xie Chunian carefully stir-fried some side dishes.

When Luo Ning woke up, Xie Chunian was already chopping firewood outside in the yard. His broad back and muscular arms were a sight. No wonder he had been pinned down last night and couldn’t move at all.

A flash of the man’s pectoral muscles crossed Luo Ning’s mind, and his face heated up. Now he had no more internal conflict. Everything had happened. A tough and handsome man like Xie Chunian was to his liking. Since he didn’t reject it, he might as well try to get along with him.

“Awake?” Xie Chunian wiped the sweat from his forehead and saw his little husband’s dazed expression. He reached out and held Luo Ning’s small hand, leading him into the kitchen. “Wash your face first. The porridge is ready.”

Outside, the light was bright, with a table and stools set up under the eaves.

A bowl of porridge, two steamed buns, and a plate of stir-fried cabbage were waiting.

In front of Luo Ning was also a bowl of steamed eggs, likely to replenish his energy. He had thought the man was quite rough, but he was surprisingly gentle and thoughtful.

Luo Ning didn’t remain polite and took a bite. It was warm and tasted fresh. He then scooped a spoonful and offered it to the man. Since eggs from countryside were precious, he wouldn’t eat them all himself. Xie Chunian looked at his little husband’s shiny eyes, paused for a moment, and accepted the egg. A smile appeared on his eyes when he saw Luo Ning smiled.

Having stayed indoors all day yesterday, Luo Ning hadn’t paid much attention to the courtyard. While sipping porridge, he looked around. The small courtyard wasn’t big, surrounded by a stone wall. Next to it was a vegetable patch where bok choy and greens were growing well, and yellow pumpkin flowers were blooming. The sunlight poured in, making the usual morning feel peaceful and beautiful, instantly lifting his spirits.

After they finished eating, Xie Chunian told Luo Ning to rest at home while he went to town. They had used up all the rice and flour for the wedding banquet yesterday, and he needed to buy some more. Since Luo Ning still felt a bit unwell, he didn’t go along.

Luo Ning returned inside and tidied up his clothes. He realized he had no dowry, just a few dull coarse clothes and shoes. Perhaps because of a guilty conscience, his parents had given him a tael of silver.

But compared to the betrothal gifts Xie Chunian had given, this dowry was really pitiful. They did not care about how their son would live in the future.

Luo Ning washed and organized his things. When the door to the courtyard creaked open, he thought it was Xie Chunian returning. Opening the door revealed Luo Qing.

At this moment, Luo Qing was different from yesterday. Although her face was the same, her aura had changed dramatically. She seemed suddenly more mature and weathered, her eyes clear and sharp yet filled with complicated emotions. She was staring at Luo Ning with a complicated look, with barely concealed jealousy.

Luo Ning felt as if he were under the gaze of a venomous snake. The female lead must have been reborn now, arriving just after his wedding day.

Because he had married Xie Chunian, he had become a thorn in the female lead’s side. Luo Ning asked calmly, “Sister, what brings you here?”

Luo Qing clenched her fists tightly in her sleeves, feeling a wave of resentment inside. Looking at Luo Ning’s rosy complexion made her feel extremely annoyed. She had woken up too late, unable to stop this substitute marriage.

Now she understood that missing out on Xie Chunian was the greatest regret of her two lifetimes. Xie Chunian was her true love, but she had been blinded by love and lost a good man.

In her previous life, Luo Qing had looked down on Xie Chunian’s roughness and poor family background. When she encountered Young Master Chen from the town, she immediately dove in, thinking she could win him over with her beauty.

But Young Master Chen, who promised to honor her with a grand wedding, was just playing around. She ruined her own reputation and was eventually married as a concubine.

This wasn’t at all. The old woman of the Chen family constantly nagged her, and Young Master Chen quickly grew tired of her. Once the legitimate wife was brought in, she had no place left.

She lived a miserable life, suffering greatly. She had cried and caused scenes, but it only made the man despise her more. At just twenty, she had already developed wrinkles at the corners of her eyes. In her bleak days, she even thought that if she had married a farmer, she wouldn’t have to become a concubine.

This resentment could only be swallowed. But then, Xie Chunian, whom she had given up, actually prospered. His business reached the capital, and he was even granted the title of Imperial Merchant. The younger brother she had looked down upon was also living well.

Although he and Xie Chunian divorced due to a poor relationship, Xie Chunian still sent people to take good care of Luo Ning out of old feelings, allowing him to live a life of wealth without worry.

Why?!

Luo Qing was filled with hatred, feeling as if her heart was gnawed at by ants. Why had she abandoned Xie Chunian? If not, she would have been the wealthy lady of the house, and Luo Ning had no right to challenge her.

In a fit of rage, Luo Qing committed suicide. To her surprise, she was able to relive her life. Just as she was beginning to feel pleased, she learned that Xie Chunian had already married Luo Ning.

Since she had already been given a second chance at life, why not let her return earlier!

But it didn’t matter. She could still snatch Xie Chunian back. He was supposed to belong to her. Luo Ning had just gotten lucky to claim her marriage.

Luo Qing refused to blame herself and shifted all her resentment onto Luo Ning.

She directed a hostile look at Luo Ning. Noticing his beautiful eyes, delicate nose, and crimson lips, she gritted her teeth. Previously, she hadn’t thought much of him, only finding him to be dark and ordinary. But now upon closer inspection, she realized this person had captivating eyes.

Luo Qing sneered, bypassing Luo Ning to look into the courtyard. Not seeing Xie Chunian, disappointment flashed in her eyes. She questioned him in a blaming tone, “Why did it take you so long to open the door?”

“Where’s Brother Xie?”

Luo Ning felt irritated. It was Luo Qing who had insisted on breaking off the engagement, and now she wanted to turn back. Such a free lunch was impossible. He decided to live with Xie Chunian. Xie Chunian was his husband, and Luo Qing was just trying to steal his man. Thinking of this, Luo Ning’s attitude grew cold. “My husband went out.”

“He said he was going to buy meat to nourish me.”

Upon hearing this, rage flared in Luo Qing. She had different feelings for Xie Chunian and could not bear seeing him treat Luo Ning well. Luo Ning even wanted to eat meat? Eat, eat, eat! He might as well eat himself to death!

Suppressing her anger, Luo Qing thought a moment before probing, “How’s life with Brother Xie? Do you get along well?”

A blush crept onto Luo Ning’s face as he pretended to be shy. He said, “My husband is very kind to me. He cherishes me and doesn’t want me to do any work. Since he treats me so well, I will wholeheartedly follow him.”

Luo Qing’s eyes widened, sensing something was off. In her past life, the couple had not gotten along at all, so how could they possibly be harmonious now? “You’re lying to me!”

“Xiao Ning, I know you don’t like Brother Xie. It was wrong of me to make you marry him unwillingly.”

“I’ve always felt guilty for making you marry him in my place. I couldn’t sleep at night. Xiao Ning, I’m sorry for ruining your life. If you dislike Brother Xie so much, you should divorce him.”

“Come back! Our family will support you. We can find you a man you like.”

Luo Ning snorted inwardly. She was thinking beautifully, but he was not going to leave Xie Chunian. With a flushed face, he responded, “Sister, why are you talking nonsense? My husband is great. I’m already his now, how could we possibly separate?”

“My husband and I even agreed to have two chubby babies in the future. We’ll grow old together.”

Provoked repeatedly, Luo Qing nearly spat blood. Her anger was rising as she looked at Luo Ning’s smiling face, wishing she could smash him to pieces. She contorted her face, deliberately stumbling as if to push Luo Ning down. There was a stone behind him, and if he fell, he would surely get hurt.

But Luo Ning was always on guard. He dodged just in time. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Xie Chunian striding over, and he dashed into Xie Chunian’s arms, pointing at Luo Qing who had lost her footing and fallen to the ground. He asked worriedly, “Husband, what do we do? Is my sister alright?”

Xie Chunian reassured him, “It’s nothing serious, she just fell.”

When Xie Chunian returned, he caught sight of Luo Qing’s furious face, filled with malice. He even suspected she was deliberately trying to push Luo Ning down. He felt a wave of disgust towards Luo Qing lying on the ground.

Only then did Luo Ning approach to help Luo Qing. Luo Qing, who was covered in dirt, climbed to her feet. The stone pressed against her stomach, leaving her in so much pain that she couldn’t speak. She glared at Luo Ning with hatred, only to see Xie Chunian brushing the dust off of Luo Ning with a familiar and intimate gesture.

Luo Ning turned his head to ask, “Sister, are you okay?”

Luo Qing didn’t respond but instead looked at Xie Chunian with teary eyes. “Brother Xie, I’m in so much pain. Can you take me to see a doctor?”

Xie Chunian refused, his expression indifferent. “I have other matters to attend to. I’ll fetch your parents.”

Luo Ning felt very satisfied by Xie Chunian’s refusal and tried to suppress his smile.

Luo Qing cursed Xie Chunian inwardly for being unromantic and uncaring towards women.
