Ji Xiu watched helplessly as Fu Xian approached him. His eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

When he woke up from the hazy nightmare, he suddenly realized he was in a hospital, drenched in sweat and gasping for air. It occurred to him that he hadn’t died. The ghost hadn’t killed him. Turning his head, he saw his master lying beside him.

In shock, Ji Xiu tried to prop himself up but found he lacked the strength. He couldn’t lift his arms, which were wrapped in bandages. He panicked and called for a nurse.

His arms had sustained severe injuries, with both the ulna and radius fractured, and a proper treatment plan needed to be done.

Ji Xiu was taken aback. Compared to death, his injuries were trivial. However, the thought of wanting revenge, only to have the ghost crush him instead, filled him with resentment and hatred.

His master advised, “It’s best if you don’t provoke it again. We can’t defeat it. Getting out with your life this time was pure luck.”

“Since we don’t have the strength, we can only swallow our pride and suffer in silence.”

Ji Xiu retorted, “Why?! Are we just going to let this humiliation go?”

The voice beside him huffed, “What can you do? Do you expect to charge in and die? That vengeful ghost is merciful enough. It didn’t rip you apart immediately. Besides, with your magical artifact gone, don’t think about striking back.”

Ji Xiu’s face turned dark. He wanted revenge. He thought about it and realized that his own power was too weak, so he decided to report this matter to the special department. He didn’t believe that the higher-ups would allow such a hidden danger to exist.

…

When Fu Xian struck, he ultimately chose not to kill them. It wasn’t out of compassion, he simply didn’t want to add more bloodshed to his hands. Humans and ghosts were on different paths. He had previously killed to get revenge on those who had wronged him, but if he killed Ji Xiu, it would violate the laws of order. He wasn’t afraid of punishment, but he wanted to spend more time with his dear baby.

Wiping the blood off his face, Fu Xian let fresh flesh cover his bones again. Once everything was settled, he returned home as if nothing had happened. He continued to boil the rice porridge, the rising steam obscuring his features. His sinister gaze turned calm.

Confirming that he was unharmed, Fu Xian walked over to the sofa and tightly hugged Luo Ning, closing his eyes as he greedily left a trail of kisses along Luo Ning’s neck, each mark revealing his overwhelming desire for possession.

Fu Xian caressed Luo Ning’s slightly thin chin. He understood why Luo Ning had been so sleepy lately. The cold yin energy from the ghost affected him. Since they were together, the yin energy would seep into Luo Ning’s body.

But despite that, Fu Xian didn’t want to let go. Luo Ning was his treasure, his lover. He wished he could merge him into his very bones. He couldn’t bear to part with him. He was unwilling.

No matter what, they had to be together forever. Since Luo Ning had said he loved him, there was no way he could leave him!

Fu Xian took a deep breath and thought that he would wait a little longer. He had already come up with a plan.

Fu Xian began to head back to the school where he had once studied. It was a place that could continually gather yin energy and solidify his soul. When it reached a certain level, he could even form a solid body. Gradually, his ghostly white fingers were restored to their original form, free of blood stains, and it was not just an illusion.

When half of Fu Xian’s face had also returned to normal, the special department had already cautiously entered the neighborhood, each member on high alert, preparing themselves for the possibility of their comrades being killed.

Fu Xian detected the foreign presence but chose not to attack. Instead, he calmly stepped forward and requested a talk with the leader of the special department. The team members exchanged worried glances, urging their leader not to agree, fearing it might be a trap by the ghost. After all, ghosts were cunning.

After some hesitation, the leader waved his hand and approached Fu Xian. He was curious to hear what could be discussed. If there was a chance to resolve things peacefully, he was willing to take a gamble.

The two sides talked for three hours before reaching an agreement.

Fu Xian would assist the special department in solving supernatural cases and deal with some troublesome evil ghosts in exchange for being formally included in their ranks.

The team was dazed, unable to understand how they had returned without any casualties and had even gained a vengeful ghost to their team. Are ghosts really this strange these days?

Did a ghost really want a legitimate job? This had never happened before. It felt too magical.

Although surprised, they immediately realized that the benefits outweighed the drawbacks. The vengeful ghost was dangerous, but its power was evident.

Given the rampant evil ghosts in various places, having a ghost king like this to suppress them would be twice as effective for their work.

Moreover, the fact that the vengeful ghost had lived in this neighborhood without harming the innocents meant that it wasn’t a wanton killer.

In fact, their analysis suggested that this fierce ghost was possibly protecting the neighborhood. After all, there hadn’t been any strange events for six months, and the residents had been living peacefully.

Fu Xian officially became a member of the special department. He was simply tired of having his life constantly disrupted, and this was the best way to resolve things. If he couldn’t kill, he might as well join the department where he could also receive a monthly wage.

On the other side, Ji Xiu was keeping an eye on this situation. When he learned that Fu Xian had not been subdued and the special department had taken no action, curiosity led him to investigate. He was shocked to find out that Fu Xian was already working in the special department, causing him to choke back a mouthful of old blood in anger.

A month later, while Fu Xian dealt with the evil ghosts, he also managed to form his own body. Enduring the pain, he removed a section of one of his ribs, the snow-white bone glowing faintly.

He meticulously crafted the bone into a ring, as materials from ghosts could resist yin energy.

Fu Xian carefully slid the ring onto Luo Ning’s finger and whispered, “Baby, let’s get married.”

Luo Ning’s eyes stung. He didn’t know what had happened, but he could see Fu Xian’s pale, transparent face and began to have suspicions about the ring’s origin.

From then on, Luo Ning wore the ring as a treasured possession, never taking it off. After having the ring, his health improved significantly.

Human lifespan is finite. Although Luo Ning took good care of himself, he gradually aged. In what felt like a blink of an eye, a lifetime had slipped away.

His hair turned white, while Fu Xian remained as handsome as ever. Luo Ning touched Fu Xian’s face with his fingers, unable to hold back his tears. He felt so reluctant to leave, so reluctant to go. He wished he could stay here just a little longer before he had to go.

Fu Xian comforted him as usual, gently patting Luo Ning’s back. “Baby, it’s okay. We’ll always be together.”

He believed that after Luo Ning died, his soul would emerge, and he would retain this fragment of his spirit. They wouldn’t be separated.

But when Luo Ning closed his eyes, Fu Xian waited and waited, but that obedient figure never appeared. Blood filled his eyes, but there was still nothing before him. Fu Xian stood up. How can there be nothing? It was impossible for him to be gone!

After searching everywhere, Fu Xian had no choice but to accept the reality. Following a suppressed scream, a tear of blood dripped from the corner of his eye, and a strand of black mist ignited. The room was empty and silent. Everything had vanished…
