Luo Ning said firmly, “I’m sorry, but I need to go out shopping soon and can’t chat with you guys.”

Bai Yue acted as if he didn’t understand, pulling his boyfriend to sit back down on the sofa and insisting on getting a clear answer. “Ning Ning, we’re friends. If you’re in trouble, you must tell me.”

“You can’t seriously think everything’s normal here. I refuse to believe you haven’t noticed something off. Why are you pretending like nothing’s happening?”

“Is that disgusting thing threatening you? Don’t worry, Ji Xiu knows exorcism and can help you get rid of it.”

Bai Yue persuaded him earnestly. Ji Xiu chimed in, “That ghost has been bothering you for a while, hasn’t it?”

Luo Ning’s heart sank. Sure enough, the protagonists were catching on. Were they really that perceptive?

He stubbornly denied it. Bai Yue grew impatient. “What is so worth hiding? Are you really ignoring my advice for the sake of a ghost?!”

“Ghosts are cruel and vicious, they love to kill for fun. I don’t get why that ghost hasn’t acted yet, but keeping this secret will definitely not do you any good. How can you be so stupid! You’re clearly under the ghost’s spell. I’m staying here today until I help you get rid of the ghost.”

Luo Ning understood Bai Yue’s good intentions. If it were a different ghost, he would be afraid, but this was Fu Xian.

Moreover, from the tone of the protagonist, it seemed like all ghosts were utterly evil. Their thoughts couldn’t reach an agreement, so further discussion was pointless. He replied seriously, “I am not in danger, and my life hasn’t been disturbed. On the contrary, I’m very happy, and I want this life to continue. I don’t wish to disturb the current peace.”

Luo Ning expressed his choice clearly. He understood Bai Yue’s concern but couldn’t accept it. Their friendship was now strained.

Ji Xiu’s eyes flashed with realization, but he also held a disapproving attitude. Ghosts were fundamentally different from humans. To protect a ghost so much—was Luo Ning naively thinking he could be friends with a ghost? How absurd and laughable! One day he might find himself devoured by one!

Looking at Luo Ning’s stubborn expression, Ji Xiu shook his head in boredom. He tugged at Bai Yue’s hand. Since he wouldn’t listen, there was no need to waste any more breath.

After all, Luo Ning wasn’t an especially close friend. He didn’t have to meddle in matters that didn’t concern him. If he got killed, he shouldn’t blame anyone else.

Bai Yue felt a pang of hurt, looking at Luo Ning with a strange gaze, as if he no longer recognized him. Luo Ning was risking his life to associate with a ghost and deceiving him, his friend, not even listening to his earnest advice. Bai Yue felt tired and took a deep breath.

“Ning Ning, you’ll realize sooner or later that your current actions are wrong. When you let your guard down and become vulnerable, it will be too late.”

“Think about what happened in school. That chubby guy and the others were all killed by ghosts! How can you blindly trust one? You will seriously regret it!”

Luo Ning interrupted his heated words. “I don’t want to argue with you. I’m a bit tired, you should go home. Have a nice weekend. Don’t waste it on me.”

Bai Yue wanted to say more but was dragged away by Ji Xiu, who scolded him when they got outside. “You’re trying to help, but he doesn’t care about his life. Why bother wasting your time on someone who doesn’t value your concern?”

Bai Yue sulked. “After all, we were friends.”

Ji Xiu pulled him into his arms. “Alright, let’s forget about this. Even as friends, there are limits to help. You’ve already done your best.”

Bai Yue nestled into Ji Xiu’s arms, pouting in grievance, yet he caught sight of something behind Ji Xiu. His face turned pale as he tightened his grip around Ji Xiu’s waist. Before Ji Xiu could react, Bai Yue quickly pushed him aside, narrowly avoiding a wave of black mist.

Ji Xiu steadied himself and looked back to see the presence behind him: a dark, gloomy mist, cold and menacing, swirling and churning with an aura of foreboding and blood. A pair of terrifying eyes seemed to be watching them intently, as if trying to drag them into the abyss.

Ji Xiu felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. A chill ran down his spine. He gripped Bai Yue tightly and dashed down the stairs. The corridor was eerily quiet, filled only with their hurried footsteps and heavy breathing.

Having studied exorcism, Ji Xiu naturally understood the levels of ghosts well. This was clearly a vengeful ghost. His master had said that a vengeful ghost appeared only once every hundred years. Wherever such a ghost roamed, it was equal to disaster. With such an intense resentment, how would he be able to confront it?

The staircase was long and winding, seemingly endless. In a daze, Ji Xiu keenly felt that something was pursuing him from behind despite the silence. He couldn’t afford to stop, as if he were reliving the frantic escape from that night at school, disheveled and vulnerable, where a single misstep could lead to the abyss behind him swallowing him whole. He had to keep running, always running.

But the staircase felt too long. Panic surged within Ji Xiu. While he was fast, Bai Yue, who he was dragging along, wasn’t as agile and was constantly screaming in horror. Ji Xiu couldn’t spare the breath to comfort him. He gripped Bai Yue’s hand tightly, which slowed his pace.

He vaguely sensed something was amiss. Why had they been running for so long? That vengeful ghost should have caught up by now, why hadn’t it attacked them?

Even with these doubts, Ji Xiu couldn’t spare time to think. Even turning back to look was a waste of time. He was racing against time.

Finally, they reached the end of the staircase. Ji Xiu’s eyes lit up as he dashed toward the front door. Bai Yue exclaimed in relief, “We made it out! It shouldn’t have caught up with us!”

But their smiles quickly froze, fear rising in their eyes. As they eagerly opened the door, they didn’t see the sun or the blue sky.

Instead, it was a thick fog that enveloped them, obscuring everything in the neighborhood. The relief they felt moments ago evaporated, leaving only despair. Ji Xiu didn’t dare go forward, fearing they would get lost in the fog. It was clear that they were trapped in another dimension created by the vengeful ghost.

Possibly even a ghost realm, from which it would be hard to find an exit. Compared to the unknown outside, he preferred staying put for now.

Ji Xiu’s anger mixed with hatred. He now understood why the ghost hadn’t attacked them earlier. It was just toying with them, wanting to see their happy faces turn to despair. How vicious! The feeling of being played made Ji Xiu grit his teeth in anger.

He turned to glare at the black mist, likely enjoying their pathetic state. Fu Xian’s eyes turned icy. The white bone on his left cheek was faintly visible. His bloodshot eyes were filled with veins. As he pointed his finger, the mist finally revealed its fangs, rushing towards Ji Xiu to encircle him. Several wisps of black mist transformed into sharp spikes, targeting Ji Xiu’s brain brutally.

He hadn’t expected to return to find two pests in his home. Not only had they disturbed his lover, but they had also sown discord, threatening his relationship.

Since they wanted to interfere with him, these two pests deserved to die!

Fu Xian’s previously suppressed rage erupted. After thinking for a moment, he decided to tear those two foul mouths apart first.

Ji Xiu quickly flung out talismans and various magical items he had on him. There was a sizzling sound as the black mist seemed to be scorched.

But instead of being suppressed, it burned even more fiercely, twisting and dancing like menacing ghostly hands.

Bai Yue was rooted in fear. Two sharp spikes were aimed at his heart. His mind went blank, but Ji Xiu jumped in front of him at a critical moment. A faint light came from his chest, causing the previously fearless black mist to retreat.

A drop of cold sweat trickled down Ji Xiu’s back.

He snapped back to reality and looked at his chest with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty.

Fu Xian squinted his narrow eyes, also staring at the glowing spot. Only a magical artifact could block his attack, and a rare one at that. How ironic it was that it was on that pest.

However, Fu Xian wasn’t afraid. If it were before, he might have been devoured by the magical artifact, but now his ghostly energy was refined to a certain level. Magical artifacts couldn’t suppress him. In fact, if given time, he could destroy them.

Ji Xiu held his jade pendant like a priceless treasure. It was something he had carried since childhood for protection against evil. It was so precious! Feeling encouraged, he no longer felt panic. He pricked his finger to smear blood on the jade pendant, causing its glow to intensify.

Ji Xiu didn’t stay trembling. He used the magical artifact to break through the endless black mist while pulling Bai Yue along to escape. The fog suddenly dissipated, revealing the familiar scenery of the neighborhood.

Fu Xian coldly watched the two disappearing figures, squeezing the wounds on his burned fingers. What luck those two pests had.

The heavy door slammed shut. Ji Xiu rushed out, stumbling and falling as he tried to avoid an oncoming car. Behind, Bai Yue had already fainted, covered in various wounds. Ji Xiu had no choice but to rush him to the hospital.

Luo Ning clutched his paintbrush, unable to settle his mind. He sighed and sank onto the sofa.

Suddenly, a body pressed down on him, making it hard for him to breathe. He looked up to see Fu Xian.

Fu Xian’s once beautiful ruby-like eyes, usually gentle and calm, were now filled with rage, making Luo Ning feel uneasy. “What’s wrong?”

Fu Xian tried to suppress his emotions, burying his chin in Luo Ning’s shoulder, inhaling the faint scent of milk from him. Then a fierce kiss unexpectedly fell upon Luo Ning’s lips, aggressively biting at his lips like a ferocious beast.

Luo Ning was pinned down, unable to move, tears glistening in his eyes. He clung tightly to the man, his little nose turning red.

Fu Xian’s breathing gradually calmed. He caressed Luo Ning’s face, softly comforting him, and lovingly kissed his nose. His voice was still as gentle as ever. “Baby, I love you.”

Bai Yue’s provocation made Fu Xian extremely displeased. No matter how he ignored it, he couldn’t forget that he was now a ghost. His true form was even ugly and terrifying. His body temperature was cold, and his hands were stained with blood. But his baby was different, smiling under the sunlight, the complete opposite of him.

Ghosts were things humans deeply feared and loathed. What if one day, his baby no longer liked him?

Even now, what Luo Ning had wasn’t entirely out of willing affection. The more Fu Xian thought about it, the more frightened he became. What if his lover let go first?

He was a selfish ghost. He had given all his feelings, so he wanted the same sincerity in return.

Unless he died completely, he would never let go.
