His heart raced as if it were about to leap out of his chest. Luo Ning trembled and retreated continuously. The knocking on the door never stopped. The heavy rhythm echoed in his ears. It was initially very regular, but perhaps because Luo Ning didn’t open the door, it became urgent, knocking violently as if it would burst through at any moment.

That terrifying face was now pressed against the peephole, devoid of pupils, but somehow scanning the inside of the room through the lens. After a long silence, it grew impatient and a hoarse voice sounded, “Open the door, open the door.”

The tone was cold and emotionless, mechanically repeating the words, making it spine-chilling.

Luo Ning suddenly remembered the smell he had detected earlier. It was the smell of blood. His neighbor was no longer human.

He had no doubt that if the neighbor burst in, the result would be far from favorable. He certainly didn’t want to get choked or have his eyes gouged out.

Luo Ning reached out and lightly grabbed the wisp of black mist, like a frightened little rabbit, pitifully pleading, “I’m scared.”

This was the first time he broke the silence with Fu Xian. Compared to the ghost outside, he trusted Fu Xian more, possibly because Fu Xian hadn’t posed a threat to him, giving him a sense of security.

Plus, at such a moment, there was no one to rely on except Fu Xian. In his terror, Luo Ning even felt a hint of dependence. After all, having a big boss ghost nearby meant that the small ghost outside wouldn’t dare act up.

His weak voice quivered, with a hint of crying. His small hand tugged softly at Fu Xian. Fu Xian maintained a cold face, slowly forming a faint outline, displeased with Luo Ning for being a bother. Was his courage made of rice? Seeing Luo Ning trembling faintly made Fu Xian think he might burst into tears. It would be such an ugly sight!

To actually ask for his help was laughable!

Fu Xian had a heart of stone. Him not killing Luo Ning was only due to his good mood, and he certainly wouldn’t bother himself with small matters. He maintained his indifference. Luo Ning clung to the hem of his clothes, gently shaking it and inched closer.

Fu Xian felt a slight poke at his cold heart. He impatiently swatted Luo Ning away. Just talk, what was up with the touching?

Fu Xian was annoyed by Luo Ning’s pestering. Outside, the neighbor continued knocking without fear. Growing irritated, he projected a wisp of resentment outward. The hatred and bloodshed that fueled this resentment was the most chilling and evil thing, carrying the power of a vengeful ghost, threatening to tear apart the unafraid soul into pieces.

An extreme cold enveloped the air. The neighbor outside trembled in fear and stopped knocking. Dragging his twisted and broken legs, he fled. But that wisp of black mist caught up to him. The neighbor’s soul turned transparent, and he no longer dared to harbor malicious thoughts. He had died a miserable death, and controlled by resentment, he was trying to drag a pitiful soul down with him.

The tormented neighbor screamed in pain, begging for mercy. Like melting smoke, he obediently retreated.

The resentment did not disperse immediately but quickly seeped throughout the entire building, cleansing all unclean things. The student ghost and hanged ghost who were hunting were also entangled in resentment and couldn’t escape. They refused to leave and stubbornly resisted, but in the next moment, they were ruthlessly pierced by the resentment and vanished without a trace.

The dark corridor brightened slightly, and the temperature rose a bit. The residents slept soundly, unaware of the abnormalities happening around them.

Luo Ning felt the danger had passed, and the cold sweat dried on his body. A refreshing chill coursed through him. He sighed with relief and gratefully said to Fu Xian, “Thank you.”

After such a terrifying experience, Luo Ning could no longer sleep and called the police.
