Gu Yuanfei shook his head, feeling he was overthinking things. Gu Hanchen was simply someone abandoned by the Gu family. He had no funding and no backing. How could he have the ability to shake the Gu Group? He instinctively denied this answer and refused to acknowledge that Gu Hanchen had such capabilities.

After entering the prison, Gu Hanchen’s father quickly lost weight. Wrinkles appeared on his well-maintained face, and a few gray hairs showed up at his temples. Without the means to maintain his superficial elegance, he now resembled a disheveled old man.

This situation was undoubtedly terrible for Gu Hanchen’s father. He had always lived in luxury and had never endured such hardships. Every moment was tough to bear. He wrinkled his brows in disgust at the stench in the air, his eyes sweeping over the place with hatred. He couldn’t believe he ended up in such a wretched place. Decades of glory had been ruined, all thanks to that bastard.

He already hated Gu Hanchen, and he was now filled with the same thoughts as Lin Shuangshuang, only regretting not having killed this scourge back then.

The glory of the Gu family, which had lasted for generations, might just end with him. Gu Hanchen’s father was so angry that he nearly vomited blood. Of course, his biggest worry was still his own safety and whether he could get out of there.

Gu Hanchen’s father requested to meet Gu Hanchen, and only after much pleading did Gu Hanchen agree to visit the prison. He wanted to visit to deliberately provoke his father and see how he could no longer act arrogantly. Even if he understood his powerlessness, Gu Hanchen took pleasure in seeing his downfall.

Staring at the son he hadn’t seen in a long time, Gu Hanchen’s father clenched his dirty clothes tight, trying to suppress his humiliation. Taking a deep breath, he picked up the phone and softened his voice as much as possible. “Are you here?”

Gu Hanchen said nothing. His indifferent expression made Gu Hanchen’s father grit his teeth, his face distorting for a moment.

He forced a smile, pretending to sound regretful, and said, “Xiao Chen, Dad knows you’ve been wronged. I’m not a good father. I’ve thought about it calmly during this time and realized I have so many shortcomings. I owe you an apology.”

“You should hate me, but we’re father and son. There’s no such thing as an overnight feud, right? It’s just that you’re so distant from me that I neglected you so much.”

“Dad is old now and can’t suffer here. As long as I get out, you’ll be the heir of the Gu family. I will leave your aunt, and we can live just like father and son.”

Gu Hanchen’s father rambled on for a long while, hoping to move Gu Hanchen and coax him into finding a way to get him out. There was a hint of sincerity in his repetitive words.

Gu Hanchen simply responded with a detached “Mm,” then said, “I’m sorry, but I actually want you to suffer a fate worse than death.”

“Being your son is nothing but a tragedy.”

“Oh right, and your company is about to go bankrupt too. Even if you get out of prison, you’ll have nothing left.”

He watched as his father’s eyes turned bloodshot and twisted with madness, his whole body wishing he could break through the window, his face letting out a vicious scream. Suddenly, he felt it was all meaningless.

No matter how poorly his father lived, he couldn’t change what he had experienced.

Gu Hanchen shifted his gaze and quietly turned to leave.

Behind him, Gu Hanchen’s father was forcibly taken away, cursing and swearing. He felt that he had been plotted against by this little bastard and wouldn’t be able to recover in the second half of his life. He was so angry that he nearly collapsed, everything around him fading to black.

Lin Shuangshuang hurried over. “How did it go? Did you convince him?”

Gu Hanchen’s father pushed her away. “What else could it be? Are you satisfied now? If it weren’t for your reckless decisions to try and kill him, we wouldn’t be suffering here. You dragged me into this.”

Lin Shuangshuang glared at him. “Are you blaming me? Playing the good person? You allowed it too. Isn’t it all because you gave birth to a heartless son? You’re useless.”

Gu Hanchen’s father’s mood was already poor. Hearing Lin Shuangshuang’s taunts, he couldn’t help but slap her, wanting her to shut up. But Lin Shuangshuang wasn’t easily bullied. She cried out and lunged at him, both throwing hard punches and kicks. Gu Hanchen’s father’s neck was scratched, and Lin Shuangshuang was flung against the wall. She wiped away her tears and cried, complaining that men were all heartless.

Gu Hanchen’s father didn’t want to listen. He felt irritated. At this moment, Lin Shuangshuang was disheveled and looked like a madwoman. He couldn’t muster even a bit of sympathy. He loved himself the most. Who could still remember true love?
