Lin Shuangshuang lunged at Gu Hanchen’s father, her sharp nails aiming to scratch his face. Gu Hanchen’s father was annoyed and swatted her aside, knocking Lin Shuangshuang to the ground. The sudden force made her lose her balance, and her head hit the coffee table, blood oozing out.

Gu Yuanfei panicked and rushed over to lift Lin Shuangshuang. He shouted at his dazed father, “Dad! What are you standing there for? Hurry and take Mom to the hospital!”

Gu Hanchen’s father snapped back to reality and lost the mood to be angry. He quickly moved forward to comfort Lin Shuangshuang. Regardless of their fight, she was still his beloved wife, and seeing her injured made him worry.

Lin Shuangshuang was admitted to the hospital. She tightly closed her eyes with a distant expression, deliberately refusing to speak to Gu Hanchen’s father. She wouldn’t easily forgive this man. She wasn’t someone to be bullied. She wanted him to plead for her forgiveness, otherwise it would make her seem weak.

Gu Yuanfei didn’t try to persuade her. He was angry too and wanted to support his mother in this matter.

Before Lin Shuangshuang could feel satisfied, the Gu Group’s pharmaceutical factory was shut down for a reevaluation. Due to the devastating effects of the incident, Gu Hanchen’s father was taken in for questioning. The once-mighty corporation quickly fell into a slump.

Employees quit, the public was furious, production was halted, and profits plummeted. After this incident, the Gu family was gravely injured, and regaining the public’s trust and approval wouldn’t be an easy feat.

The wealthy family that was engaged to Gu Yuanfei was fully aware of the Gu family’s crisis and began to hesitate, contemplating canceling the engagement.

Gu Hanchen’s father hadn’t come to see Lin Shuangshuang in two days. She kept glancing at the door, feeling both angry and aggrieved. She gritted her teeth, her heart turning cold. She deeply resented Gu Hanchen’s father for leaving her behind in the hospital after just a brief visit. After decades of marriage, was she really so insignificant? Here she was in the hospital, abandoned by that heartless bastard!

Lin Shuangshuang couldn’t help but spiral into dark thoughts. While she was in the hospital, what if that bastard went to find that illegitimate child or was with another mistress? That absolutely couldn’t happen!

When she saw Gu Yuanfei approaching, Lin Shuangshuang quickly propped herself up. “Yuanfei, where’s your dad? Where did he go?”

“Why are your eyes so red? Did you stay up all night?”

Gu Yuanfei sighed wearily and replied, “Mom, the family is in trouble. Didn’t you see the news? Our family’s drugs are in big trouble. Dad, as the responsible person, doesn’t have time to visit you.”

“Is that so?!” Lin Shuangshuang exclaimed in shock. She had just realized her marriage was crumbling. How could she have the time to check news? She was too busy discussing with her friends how to deal with that scumbag and find a way to investigate that illegitimate child. She only found out now.

She grabbed Gu Yuanfei. “Son, what are we going to do? You have to think of a way.”

She was furious at Gu Hanchen’s father for his betrayal, but with the feelings that had accumulated over the years, especially since he was her son’s father and the Gu Group was her son’s business, she didn’t want the Gu family’s business to suffer.

She couldn’t worry about her wounds. She urgently wanted to leave the hospital.

…

Gu Hanchen didn’t give the Gu family any time to react, and Gu Yuanfei hadn’t been able to trace anything back to him. His research on a complete cancer cure had already caught attention from higher authorities. He was also advancing collaborations on another method of drug production.

Gu Hanchen wasn’t going to let the Gu family regain their footing. Watching those people in a frenzy, he found great amusement in their misery.

But even that wasn’t enough. Playing cat and mouse had been fun, and Gu Hanchen decided it was time to give the Gu family another push and deal an even heavier blow.

Finally, it was time for his revenge, but he felt no joy. The price the Gu family paid was insignificant compared to the pain he had endured.

Gu Hanchen suppressed the gloom in his eyes and turned to the game on his phone, a gentle smile appearing on his face.

Noticing the house was empty and the bathroom door was closed, he guessed he must be showering. Perhaps the door wasn’t shut properly, as the rabbit hopped over and gently nudged the door, creating a small gap.

Luo Ning turned his flushed face around quickly, hastily shoving the rabbit back outside before closing the door again.

Even though it was just a brief moment, Gu Hanchen saw it—white as milk but round and plump, like a soft snowball.

Gu Hanchen’s fingers twitched slightly. He was cute, and he wanted to poke him. However, he restrained himself. He was afraid the little one might think he was peeping while he showered and get angry.

He pretended not to notice, and Luo Ning didn’t realize either.

After his shower, his hair was damp and hung over his face.

He sat on the sofa, turned on the TV, and found his favorite cartoon. A towel floated down and landed on his hair, gently rubbing it.

Luo Ning smiled softly as he leaned back against the force behind him. His posture appeared dependent. Ever since Gu Hanchen could touch him, he felt extremely useless. Gu Hanchen had done everything for him—dressing, cooking, and combing his hair. He was being treated like a big baby who didn’t do anything.

He was becoming so lazy. Fortunately, he wouldn’t gain weight here.

Gu Hanchen’s movements were gentle, making Luo Ning squint comfortably. He was like a sleepy kitten, both delicate and obedient.

Gu Hanchen chuckled softly and pinched his cheek. The baby fat on his face felt incredible, like the softest cake, making one want to take a bite.

His longing grew stronger. If only the little one were real.

Then a message popped up in the game system: “Today is Valentine’s Day. As a qualified partner, you should give your lover a gift.”

“Occasional romance and little surprises can stabilize your relationship!”

Gu Hanchen’s eyelashes fluttered as he stared at the words “Valentine’s Day.” He couldn’t help but open the shopping page. Ever since he had dreamed of that gold coin matter, he often bought things.

He kept thinking that if he spent enough money, maybe the little one would really appear.

Gu Hanchen selected a few items, unsure of what to buy, and clicked on some desserts the little one’s loved, along with fireworks and roses.

The vibrant roses appeared before him, and Luo Ning excitedly rushed forward to embrace them. Even more surprising was what happened next: a dazzling rain of flower petals burst forth in midair, with sparkling lights and a gradient of colors creating a surreal and dazzling beauty that surpassed starlight.

Luo Ning’s eyes lit up. He tilted his head back, staring in awe, reaching out to catch the light specks. Nothing in reality was as beautiful as these flowers…

He asked with excitement, unable to suppress his smile and feeling a bit floaty. “Brother Gu, why did you give me these?”

“A surprise, I wanted you to see them.”

Another message popped up in front of Gu Hanchen. “Your lover really likes the gift you prepared, and his affection for you has increased.”

“At a moment like this, you should give him a kiss. It will make him happier and benefit your relationship. Let him experience the beauty of being in love.”

“Don’t say you don’t want to. That would be very unromantic.”

Gu Hanchen’s heart raced. He didn’t know what a kiss was like, but imagining his lips on the little guy’s face, tasting that sweetness, made his heart flutter.

After hesitating for a moment, a blush crept onto his ears. He became somewhat uneasy, tightening his face and pressing his lips together before slowly leaning towards the little one’s face.

In the past, Gu Hanchen would never have imagined that one day he would make such a silly gesture in front of a phone screen. But as he leaned closer, he caught sight of the little one turning his eyes toward him, and the clear gaze instantly dissipated the impulse that had risen within him.

He leaned back a bit, feeling uncertain. His usually indifferent face slowly turned a little red, the heat making him uncomfortable.

Forget it. Gu Hanchen didn’t dare to come closer, but his thoughts were uncontrollable. In the end, he merely patted the little one’s head.

Their intimate moment remained undisturbed. Gu Hanchen got everything arranged and didn’t worry too much about the Gu family.

The atmosphere in the Gu family house was tense. Gu Yuanfei busily sought funds and connections to stabilize the situation, hardly able to catch his breath. As the young master of the Gu family, he had been raised in luxury and had never felt this kind of grievance.

Even a starving camel is bigger than a horse. The Gu family had been at the top for so many years, with extensive connections and numerous partnerships. When Gu Yuanfei sought help, there were still those willing to assist him.

But just when Gu Yuanfei thought things might ease up, several companies united against the Gu Group, making the situation even worse. The lucrative pie that was the Gu Group was a temptation. Everyone wanted a bite. In the business world, profit was still paramount. Even some former allies of the Gu Group were eyeing the situation greedily.

The shareholders’ demands for accountability, the consequences of order breaches, and the inability to operate the business all left both Gu Hanchen’s father and Gu Yuanfei exhausted.

Lin Shuangshuang realized the seriousness of the situation and dared not go out and spend lavishly anymore. She tried to use her connections, hoping to find a way for Gu Hanchen’s father to escape responsibility and punishment. The Gu family couldn’t afford to have problems. She had become accustomed to her life as a rich lady, looking down on others from a high position. She couldn’t lose those privileged conditions.

But having been raised at home, she didn’t understand business matters. Other than cursing, she could do very little.

Gu Yuanfei took a deep drag from his cigarette. In just a few days, he looked haggard, with sunken eyes and a disheveled appearance. His expression was unclear in the swirling smoke.

Gu Yuanfei tossed the cigarette butt to the ground. He hadn’t had a good night’s sleep for a long time. He didn’t know who was targeting him behind the scenes or plotting against him. With the enemy in the dark, he could only be on guard. This feeling of disadvantage made him very uncomfortable.

Gu Yuanfei had never experienced such a feeling of defeat nor faced such threats. He was furious yet powerless. Just like Lin Shuangshuang, he couldn’t bear to lose everything he had now.

He was the heir of the Gu family and had always been at the top. He couldn’t understand why he suddenly found himself in such a chaotic situation. Life had turned upside down in an instant.

He didn’t have the energy to comfort Lin Shuangshuang anymore. Like a cornered beast, he didn’t even know which way to go.

The situation hadn’t been resolved yet, and to make matters worse, the police arrived at the villa and took Lin Shuangshuang away. The investigation was about a car accident from several years ago, and they suspected Lin Shuangshuang of intentional murder.

Lin Shuangshuang couldn’t believe it. She was completely dumbfounded. She had done such a thing, but she didn’t care about it. She thought she had cleared all the evidence and witnesses back then, believing she could hide the truth for the rest of her life.

Moreover, she had indeed lived steadily for so many years. She had almost forgotten about it. Why did it suddenly come up again?

All Lin Shuangshuang knew was she couldn’t admit to it. She insisted she hadn’t done anything and was unaware of the situation.
