Gu Hanchen moved out, and the Gu family no longer had leverage over him. He had also collected all the evidence and leverage against the Gu Group. Gu Hanchen could no longer tolerate it. The ‘surprises’ he had planned for the Gu family were now happening one by one, catching them off guard and disturbing the calm waters.

Gu Hanchen’s father was still happily socializing outside. His well-maintained face radiated satisfaction. At the banquet, he moved with grace. He believed the marriage with the An family was just around the corner and was planning to initiate cooperative projects.

Lin Shuangshuang’s charming smile had not faded. She appeared to have become a few years younger. She leisurely sipped her red wine. After finally discarding the excess garbage, the Gu family would only have one son, meaning everything in the Gu family would belong to her son. She wouldn’t spare a dime for her stepson.

Soon, her son would be married to a well-matched young lady from a good family. Relying on both families’ connection and holding onto the Gu family’s inheritance, the future was limitless. Unlike that beggar Gu Hanchen, there was no comparison. Gu Hanchen could only obediently be trampled underfoot, who cared about someone as lowly as him?

Lin Shuangshuang and Gu Hanchen’s father were both laughing heartily, as if something wonderful had happened, unaware of the brewing storm that was about to emerge.

The Gu family had its roots in the pharmaceutical industry and ranked among the top in domestic medicine production. Last year, they developed an anti-aging drug that became extremely popular and was in high demand.

It could be said that about fifty percent of people were using this drug, especially among the middle-aged and elderly, generating immense profits.

However, one day, a post started trending online. Someone had experienced organ failure and suspected it was due to the Gu family’s anti-aging drug. While this drug had good short-term effects like reducing hair loss and wrinkles, after prolonged use, many began to feel increasingly unwell. Upon visiting the hospital, they discovered a sharp decline in their bodily functions.

This post initially didn’t attract much attention, but within a day, more and more people began to jump in to discuss it, saying that their previously healthy body had suddenly experienced a sudden health issue after six months of using the product.

A well-known influencer with millions of followers spoke out days later, sharing related evidence and angrily accusing the Gu family of misconduct.

He was a wealthy second-generation rich kid who frequently bought health products for his elderly family members. After suspecting the Gu family’s products, he sent them to both domestic and international testing authorities.

Normally, such medications wouldn’t show any issues, otherwise they wouldn’t have been mass-produced without raising alarms. However, after this batch was tested, the results came back quickly.

The Gu family’s drug was found to contain a new type of ingredient that did offer certain benefits, but the harm it caused outweighed those benefits. The toxins contained within wouldn’t show immediate effects, but they accumulated over time, eventually reaching a certain level and having severe effects on health.

After this influencer spoke out, multiple media outlets began to report on the issue, and the Gu family abruptly trended on social media.

This incident caused a public outcry. Products that had previously been must-haves were immediately discarded as trash.

Due to the Gu family’s usual heavy marketing, everyone quickly connected the problem to the Gu brand. Those who had used the drug rushed to hospitals for checkups, worried they might be the next to suffer from organ failure. This caused hospitals to be overcrowded.

The anger of being deceived, the fear of the unknown, the pain from illness, and the money lost on medical bills—these negative emotions mingled together, causing the public to direct their anger and resentment towards the Gu family. People expressed their disgust through words and demanded answers from the Gu family.

The situation erupted so suddenly that the Gu family couldn’t react in time. By the time they grasped the consequences, it was too late to suppress the news. Even their low-level staff had used the company’s products. Those staff were shocked upon seeing the news. No one had the heart to work, and chaos ensued.

The upper management of the Gu family was in a frenzy, akin to ants on a hot stove. They hastily convened meetings to discuss countermeasures. They all understood that such a matter causing public outrage would undoubtedly be a massive blow to the Gu family.

Just as Gu Hanchen’s father was about to call Gu Hanchen in for a meeting, this unexpected incident sprang up. He was dazed for quite some time. The company had been stable for decades, and he had grown accustomed to enjoying the fruits of that stability. With his mind set on his high position and glory within the Gu family, and even dreaming of elevating the Gu family even further, only to suddenly face a crisis that left him bewildered.

He initially thought the matter would be resolved quickly and without much trouble. He used his connections and attempted to investigate the source of the issue, manipulate public opinion, and even have his assistants bribe patients at the hospitals to retract their statements. But he didn’t expect that the news would spiral out of control.

As Gu Hanchen’s father began to panic, his heart raced. He angrily tossed documents off the table, losing his usual poise and calm. He couldn’t even bring himself to say that the drugs met safety standards. During the initial research phase, he had only been focused on making money, neglecting the potential side effects before putting it into production.

With bloodshot eyes, Gu Hanchen’s father paced nervously within the office.

Gu Yuanfei said, “Dad, someone is definitely orchestrating this from behind the scenes, otherwise how could it have been exposed so quickly?”

He had traced some clues, indicating a deliberate attack on them.

Gu Hanchen’s father quickly asked, “Who is it?!”

If they could identify the culprit, he would crush that bastard without hesitation!

Gu Yuanfei shook his head, his expression grim. “We haven’t found out yet.”

He was about to take over the position of CEO when everything was suddenly derailed, leaving him in a terrible mood.

Gu Hanchen’s father snapped in frustration, “What good is it not to have found anyone?! Don’t worry about that now. The most important thing is, how much of the harmful ingredient is in the drug? How are we going to deal with this?!”

The Gu family’s stocks plummeted sharply, and profits were impacted. People clamored for an explanation.

Exhausted, they returned home. The two lay down on the sofa to rest. Gu Hanchen’s father didn’t even have time for a sip of water before he felt a slap land on his face with a loud sound, leaving it red.

Lin Shuangshuang was gasping, her expression twisted and furious, unable to maintain her usual elegance and composure. She glared at Gu Hanchen’s father, her eyes nearly popping out. Her hand stung from the slap, but even that didn’t quell her anger. She swung at him again, only to be roughly pushed away by Gu Hanchen’s father, who roared, “Are you crazy?! What’s with you? It’s bad enough that you’re useless all day, now you’re adding to the trouble!”

With company troubles weighing heavily on him, Gu Hanchen’s father couldn’t contain his temper when faced with Lin Shuangshuang hitting him.

Lin Shuangshuang was furious and hysterical. “You bastard! Do you think I’m doing okay? You keep saying you love me, and yet this is how you treat me!”

Gu Yuanfei also felt puzzled. His normally loving parents were now at each other’s throats. He hurried to intervene in the fight. He asked impatiently, “Mom, what’s wrong with you? You’re blowing up for no reason. You need to explain.”

“Dad and I were both tired today, so stop this nonsense. You’re giving me a headache with all this yelling. You two should just sit and talk it out. Shouting doesn’t help.”

Lin Shuangshuang completely broke down, her pent-up emotions flooding out uncontrollably. Tears streamed as she cried. She angrily threw her phone down. “It’s not me causing a scene, it’s your dad who wronged me. He actually cheated on me, having an affair and even having an illegitimate child! How could I possibly stay calm?”

She sobbed, wailing, “Gu Cheng, you’re not human! What have I done wrong? You even fathered such a bastard child. That bastard is only three years younger than our Yuanfei! How could you deceive me for so many years?”

“Be clear! How many sluts have you been with all these years?”

Lin Shuangshuang was dumbfounded when she received the news and photos today. She couldn’t believe it. She was so angry she felt like she might faint. She wanted to convince herself that this was all a deliberate provocation, but the photos revealed Gu Cheng standing with that bastard child. Their faces looked too much alike. Anyone could see they were father and son.

Then came a video that completely dispelled her doubts. In the hotel, Gu Cheng walked into a room with a woman. Who would believe there wasn’t something fishy going on inside?

Lin Shuangshuang felt her heart crack. She had married Gu Cheng for love, believing they were in a loving relationship. This man acted every day as if he loved her and pampered her. When she had someone break Gu Hanchen’s leg, Gu Cheng didn’t even hold it against her. She truly believed this man cared for her, but little did she know it was all a facade. She had been kept in the dark like a fool.

Gu Hanchen’s father was at a loss for words, his face turning pale as panic and guilt flickered in his eyes. Looking at the photos on the phone, he couldn’t find a way to respond, opening his mouth but unable to form words.

Gu Yuanfei was also shocked. He took the phone and examined it closely, struggling to maintain his composure. His expression changed as anger surged within him. He gripped the phone tightly and asked his father with disappointment, “Is this all true? Do you have another son outside?”

Under questioning from both, Gu Cheng’s back hunched slightly. After hesitating for a moment, he said, “Um, Shuangshuang, Yuanfei, it’s not what you think.”

“This child is indeed mine, but I didn’t want it. One time at a banquet, I got drunk and was schemed against by a woman who secretly gave birth to him.”

“Shuangshuang, I didn’t betray you. You’re the most important to me. That child is already born, and I couldn’t help it. Don’t worry, that child won’t affect you. We can just pretend it never happened.”

Lin Shuangshuang cried, “The very existence of that bastard disgusts me. You think you can just brush it off? Don’t dream! How many times have you gone to see that child in secret? Who knows if you’re still involved with that cheap woman?”

“Gu Cheng, I can’t trust you anymore.”

Gu Cheng became angry too. With his bad mood and Lin Shuangshuang refusing to relent, he had no patience to discuss the matter today. He believed he had kept himself relatively clean in this circle, living with Lin Shuangshuang for so many years, yet she wasn’t satisfied. He was about to leave coldly. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Believe it or not, it’s up to you.”

Lin Shuangshuang’s lips trembled. “Is this how you admit your wrongdoings? You bastard, you’re not getting away with this today!”
