Luo Ning had just woken up and was dazed for a moment. Upon seeing the bright and clean house, he remembered that he had moved to a new house. He was thrilled to spot a television not far away and ran over curiously to poke it, trying to turn it on.

The screen lit up and showed animated shows. They were either sweet romantic plotlines or cartoon characters building houses and battling monsters.

He didn’t know how it appeared without any signal, but the game world couldn’t be understood by common sense.

Luo Ning nestled into the soft sofa, thoroughly immersed in watching the cartoons. It was a bit childish but still quite entertaining. He lazily grabbed a bag of cookies.

Sensing something moving subtly beneath the sofa, Luo Ning listened closely, then cast aside the cookies and carefully jumped away to peer under the sofa.

White and fluffy—it was a rabbit!

Luo Ning relaxed, reaching down to pull the rabbit out. It was quite plump. Gu Hanchen must have bought it again. He petted the rabbit’s soft fur and sat on the sofa with it.

When Gu Hanchen opened the game, he saw Luo Ning lounging on the sofa in a white suit, his fair skin and perfect features resembling a pampered little prince.

Luo Ning was focused on the television, his expression light and cheerful, giggling at the entertainment.

Gu Hanchen was infected by his laughter, and his previously tense mood lightened considerably. However, he soon realized that Luo Ning was completely absorbed in the television, not thinking about him at all.

Gu Hanchen sent a message, “Are you that happy?”

Luo Ning didn’t respond at first, then he looked away and giggled. “You wouldn’t believe it. This cartoon is hilarious! It’s so funny!”

Gu Hanchen noticed that Luo Ning’s attention was once again diverted to the television, and he frowned slightly. “You’ve been watching too long, take a break.”

Luo Ning shook his head. “I finally found something fun. I want to watch enough of it. Let’s watch together, this cartoon is really great. It seems to make all my worries disappear.”

Gu Hanchen didn’t find the playful cartoon cats on the TV appealing at all. He only knew that in the past, the little figure’s eyes were only for him. He would cling to him and speak softly, expressing reluctance to part. But now, the television had drawn him away.

If he had known, he wouldn’t have bought the TV.

But seeing Luo Ning so happy, he held back his words. While Luo Ning watched TV, he observed him and noticed a string of pink hearts on the screen, also related to love.

Luo Ning even muttered, “It looks so warm and sweet.”

Gu Hanchen’s eyes flickered slightly. Could the little one be wanting to fall in love?

According to the game’s programming, Luo Ning was his virtual lover, but Gu Hanchen didn’t take that seriously. Thinking back on that ‘love manual’ made him irritated. If the little character wanted love, he could make the other happy by giving gifts, but sweet nothings were definitely out of the question.

If Luo Ning really longed for love, how would he comfort him? What if the little figure felt down and cried again?

Gu Hanchen pondered for a moment and said, “Those are all fake. So-called love is just an illusion. There’s no meaning in watching it.”

Luo Ning smiled casually. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s real or not. I enjoy watching it.”

Gu Hanchen sighed, feeling troubled. Indeed, he shouldn’t have bought the TV.

He thought he could let it slide after watching for a whole day, but the next day, he found Luo Ning lounging on the sofa again. Gu Hanchen didn’t want him to get addicted, so he advised, “Watching TV all the time isn’t good for your health. You should get up and move around a bit. Staring at the screen will strain your eyes.”

Luo Ning thought for a moment. He realized his eyes felt a bit sore and his head was dizzy. He hadn’t talked much with Gu Hanchen because of the TV yesterday. That wasn’t right.

From Luo Ning’s perspective, Gu Hanchen had no family, no close friends, and was always cooped up at home due to his leg injury.

Maybe he was Gu Hanchen’s closest person. While he was bored here, Gu Hanchen was also lonely. He couldn’t neglect their friendship for the sake of entertainment.

Luo Ning immediately turned off the TV obediently and said softly, “I won’t watch anymore.”

He sat cross-legged on the floor, resting one hand on his chin, his eyes flickering with tiny sparkles in the light, his dark hair tinged warmly. He asked curiously, “Brother Gu, do you watch me every day?”

“You know how I spend each day, but I can’t see you.”

“I really want to see you.”

Luo Ning didn’t know what Gu Hanchen looked like. He could only imagine a rough idea of him and was curious about his appearance.

His bright eyes were filled with expectation, expressing his longing. His lively gaze was so sincere that, without the screen as a barrier, it seemed to reach into Gu Hanchen’s heart, making it hard not to be moved.

Gu Hanchen’s eyes darkened slightly, and a fleeting emotion surged within him. Somehow, he felt a hint of melancholy and loss. This was just a game, and there would never be a day they would cross paths in reality. Thus, the little one’s longing would remain unfulfilled.

His throat felt dry, and not wanting that light in Luo Ning’s eyes to shatter, he typed, “I’m not worth looking at. I’m ugly and have a bad temper. You’ll surely be disappointed after seeing me.”

That was the truth. He had once been the so-called campus heartthrob, but after his leg injury, all he felt was hatred. Resentment twisted like vines inside him. After so long, his calf had shriveled and deformed, and his face was gaunt like a skeleton, pale and gloomy, making him look ghostly—he had become someone even he hated.

Being this ugly would surely scare the little guy.

Luo Ning hurriedly disagreed, “How could that be? Brother Gu is the most handsome in my eyes. No matter what, you’re always my favorite person.”

Gu Hanchen’s mouth curled into a smile, his fingers brushing over Luo Ning’s hair. Unfortunately, through the cold screen, he couldn’t feel the softness he imagined.

He advised, “Alright, let’s stop talking about this. I see those books have been tossed in the corner. Have you finished reading them?”

Luo Ning’s eyes brightened as he nodded. “Yes, I’ve finished them all.”

“I read a lot of stories, and they all have good lessons. Brother Gu, since I have time, I’ll tell you a couple.”

Gu Hanchen raised an eyebrow. Could it be of those love stories again? This system was all about being love-struck. The contents of those books probably weren’t much different from the love manual.

He didn’t like those dull topics but figured he could oblige and listen since it was Luo Ning speaking.

Luo Ning cleared his throat a couple of times, organizing his words. He intended to say something completely unrelated. He just wanted to use the opportunity to encourage Gu Hanchen.

The stories basically contained messages like “The sun always shines after the rain, and there will always be a rainbow,” “The trials in life will help one grow,” “When God closes a door, he opens a window,” and “Walk your own path, don’t care about others’ opinions,” blah blah blah—all kinds of motivational soup.

Luo Ning licked his lips. He was getting a bit dry in the mouth. He knew these were trivial words. Gu Hanchen had endured so much, but he simply wanted to offer comfort.

Gu Hanchen watched the little figure’s earnest expression. He didn’t understand what the other was thinking, but he could feel his pure concern. He had seen the titles of those books already. They weren’t anything serious.

It was impressive that his little brain could come up with all this. Now in a game, Gu Hanchen actually experienced the feeling of being cared for. He fixed his gaze on the little figure, his sharp black eyes softening a bit.

He found him increasingly cute.

He wanted to hold the little one gently in his palm.

Yet he also felt disappointed. It would be so much better if this weren’t just a game.

After talking for a while, Luo Ning took a light breath and couldn’t speak anymore.

Gu Hanchen responded, “What you said makes a lot of sense.”

Luo Ning’s eyes sparkled with a smile. He hardly believed that Gu Hanchen was actually listening!

Luo Ning felt a bit more confident now. He understood how much Gu Hanchen hated certain things, but he couldn’t neglect his own health because of those scumbags’ mistakes. Taking care of his body was important.

So, during mealtimes, he would casually suggest eating on time, saying how delicious the food was.

When they went outside for a walk, he would also say it was good to breathe fresh air and that staying cooped up at home was uncomfortable.

At night, he would remind Gu Hanchen to go to bed early.

These little details tired Luo Ning out as he tried to hint at everything.

…

Luo Ning was no longer afraid of those lizards. If any annoying ones dared to bully him again, he would just knock them out with his mallet.

He wasn’t worried about food, but his fat rabbit liked to eat the emerald vines, so he had to pull some back every day, getting himself covered in dirt. He also had to take the rabbit to bathe every day.

With the hot spring at home, bathing became a real treat. He thought about Gu Hanchen being able to see him and worried that those private moments would be completely exposed to him.

Gu Hanchen watched as the little figure’s face turned a rosy hue. The little figure’s eyes were glistening with tears, and his head was lowered shyly, his ears flushed red.

He swallowed hard and reassured Luo Ning that there would definitely be times when the game wasn’t on, and if there was anything inconvenient, he could just say it.

Only then could Luo Ning wash and change clothes without worry. Actually, there was no need to worry at all. In Gu Hanchen’s view, he was small, with short and chubby limbs. Without any clothes, he was just a white dumpling.

The lizards couldn’t even get close to the old stone house, so the villa had to be even safer. Because of Luo Ning’s fierceness during this period, those lizards were scared of being beaten up and would instinctively burrow into the ground when Luo Ning went outside.

Luo Ning had a limited view, only seeing this small stretch of land. He walked towards the edge with his mallet, feeling as if there was a barrier. The edge was shrouded in thick fog, dense enough that he couldn’t see through. He wondered if there were strange things inside. He didn’t dare move forward for fear that he might get lost. He guessed that even if he could pass through this fog, there might still be other barriers. His actions might be restricted.

Since it wasn’t a path worth taking, Luo Ning decided not to try anymore to avoid worrying Gu Hanchen.

After seeing everything outside every day, Luo Ning noticed that a cluster of emerald vines had blossomed. The pink six-petaled flowers were quite pretty, the only bright spot in the dark soil.

Luo Ning carefully picked one of the emerald vines, placed it in a pot on the balcony, and watered it daily to see if he could grow a second flower.

The benefits of gardening were many, such as calming the mind, improving oneself, and cultivating a joy for life. Luo Ning casually recommended it, but he didn’t pay too much attention to it.

But Gu Hanchen remembered it. It was rare for him to buy flowers, and it was the first time flowers had adorned his room.
