The glowing items came with special effects. When they landed in Luo Ning’s hands, the shield automatically opened and expanded into a solid blue protective dome, enveloping him inside.

Luo Ning was momentarily stunned, then reflexively swung the mallet at the lizard. After a heavy thud, the lizard flew back.

Luo Ning’s eyes lit up. He didn’t expect the mallet to be so effective. He promptly knocked away another lizard that charged at him. After confirming that he was safe and the situation had turned around, he thought about how he had been chased by the lizards earlier. In retaliation, he used the mallet to deal with them. See if they dare to bully him again!

Feeling emboldened, Luo Ning wasn’t scared at all. He dashed after the lizards, swinging the mallet rapidly.

Bang! Bang! Bang! It felt like playing whack-a-mole. After defeating numerous lizards, Luo Ning finally stopped. He bent over to catch his breath, his face flushed and feeling a bit tired. He then triumphantly carried the mallet back home.

He knew these weapons must have been sent by Gu Hanchen. With excitement in his eyes, he exclaimed, “Hanchen, thank you! This weapon is so cool!”

He had quickly turned the tables and could now walk outside without worry.

However, Gu Hanchen wasn’t pleased. An inexplicable anger simmered within him. If he hadn’t seen it, would that monster have attacked? Thinking of the little figure getting hurt ignited his anger. He said sternly, “I told you not to go out casually before.”

“Do you have any idea how dangerous it is?”

“There’s food and water around, so why do you need to run around? Have you forgotten the lesson from before?”

Luo Ning’s smile froze, his joy and excitement abruptly cut off by a string of reproaches. It was easy to imagine Gu Hanchen’s stern and unpleasant expression. Luo Ning felt a wave of despondence. He had only been receiving Gu Hanchen’s gentleness and kindness until now, so experiencing his sternness was something he wasn’t used to.

Luo Ning felt as if something heavy was blocking his throat. He lowered his head in distress, his brows knitting together. His eyes shimmered with unshed tears as he fidgeted with his fingers, feeling uneasy. Gu Hanchen was right. He shouldn’t have run around, he was being careless.

He stood there in a daze, his once-glossy dark hair seemingly dulling slightly. He appeared obedient and docile like a frightened little rabbit, pitiful yet cute.

Gu Hanchen immediately calmed down, feeling as if something had pricked his heart. He could sense the little figure’s strange charm that made people want to soften their hearts. Looking at Luo Ning’s reddening eyes made his expression a bit awkward. He asked, “What were you doing outside?”

Luo Ning pressed his lips together, a hint of loneliness in his eyes. “I was just too bored and wanted to go for a walk.”

Staying cooped up in a small room all day was really no fun.

Gu Hanchen’s gaze softened, feeling a hint of sadness in his heart. Even knowing this was a virtual game, he still sensed the little figure’s loneliness and desolation. He often felt trapped in an empty room himself and understood how stifling it could be. He hadn’t considered things carefully, and he had been so stern just now. The little figure must have felt much worse. Gu Hanchen felt a twinge of regret as he lightly swiped the screen of his phone. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach out and touch Luo Ning.

“Your lover is feeling down right now. If he cries, it will hurt your heart. Please give him some love and warmth.”

Gu Hanchen didn’t know how to comfort someone. He had never been good at softening his words. After hesitating for a while, he awkwardly managed to say something, “Be good.”

“Don’t cry.”

Thinking it over, he bought several more cartons of milk for Luo Ning, watching as the little figure’s eyes sparkled again.

Luo Ning felt a bit embarrassed, his cheeks reddening slightly. Why did he feel so aggrieved just now? He wouldn’t cry, he wasn’t that delicate.

Seeing Gu Hanchen buying more and more, he hurriedly stopped him, “If you keep buying, there won’t be enough room in the house.”

Gu Hanchen had no choice but to stop. Looking at the little figure’s slightly red-rimmed eyes made him want to buy everything possible for him.

He didn’t know how this game was designed. Just the previous day, he scoffed at it, but now he found it hard to let go. If he didn’t check on him for a day, this delicate and fragile little figure wouldn’t know what to do.

Although he normally didn’t like weak and helpless people, he now felt helpless.

“Your lover’s mood has improved. Looking at your pretty lover, wouldn’t you want to dress him up?”

Gu Hanchen felt an itch in his heart, and his curiosity was piqued. Knowing that the little figure only had two outfits, he carefully scrolled through the options. He discovered a large, newly updated shopping list filled with a vast array of shiny clothes added to the cart.

Gu Hanchen selected a little black and white suit, a short-sleeved shirt, pajamas, socks, and slippers. When he stumbled upon fluffy animal costumes, his eyes lit up. He chose the little cow and little rabbit outfits, thinking these soft items suited his little one’s charm perfectly.

He scrolled down further and also bought items like a hot spring bath, a basin, a bowl, and a toothbrush.

“It’s more fun to dress your lover yourself! Dressing him up and styling his hair is a romantic and sweet experience. Don’t you think so?”

Gu Hanchen felt moved, a flutter in his heart. After hesitating for a moment, he selected the little rabbit outfit he liked the most.

Luo Ning was in the middle of moving the milk when he suddenly found himself in a new outfit. They were all fluffy and warm. Looking down, he saw white fur covering him in a soft, puffball-like mass.

He was puzzled and asked, “Why did you buy me clothes like this?”

This didn’t seem to match Gu Hanchen’s style. Was Gu Hanchen a fluff enthusiast?

“It looks good.”

Gu Hanchen slowly typed. He didn’t realize that he was charmed, but his gaze couldn’t help but linger on the little figure. The little figure was already fair and delicate, and now in the fluffy snow-white outfit with large drooping ears, he looked even more petite and tender like a snowball, making people want to hug and squeeze him.

“How about it? Isn’t it a sense of achievement? Do you want to kiss and hug your lover, all sweet and romantic?”

“Please always show concern for your lover and take good care of him so that you can bear the fruit of love soon.”

Gu Hanchen suddenly found the frequent pop-up messages annoying, but he didn’t know how to turn them off. He just felt sorry for the little figure. Why did everything have to link back to love? This broken game’s core system seemed like a love-struck brain.

That fluffy little guy—he could see him but couldn’t touch him.

Luo Ning licked his lips. He felt quite happy seeing Gu Hanchen’s praise.

In the next moment, his little shabby stone house transformed into a spacious and bright villa. The change happened in an instant, with white marble floors, wall lamps made of floral vines, warm-colored wallpaper, a blue sofa, a soft big bed, and snacks piled in the corner.

The reason for this sudden upgrade was that Gu Hanchen found the old house too dilapidated and cramped, unable to fit items, so he simply decided to switch to a big villa. Of course, spending a large amount of gold coins was needed, but Gu Hanchen wasn’t lacking in money.

Luo Ning suddenly experienced a transformation from poverty to wealth. Looking around at the spacious environment and then down at his own clothes, he realized he had come to help Gu Hanchen, yet it turned out to be Gu Hanchen taking care of him. Why was he so good?

Having suffered so much, he still maintained such warmth and kindness!

It was truly rare!

Feeling moved, his heart swelled in a bittersweet feeling like being in warm water. However, he couldn’t share what he had here or buy anything. He could only rely on Gu Hanchen. Once he stepped outside, Luo Ning decided he would repay him well.

Luo Ning formed a hugging gesture, wanting to give Gu Hanchen a hug. Although he couldn’t reach the real person, he believed Gu Hanchen would understand his intention.

Gu Hanchen watched as he opened his arms, his bright eyes filled with pure joy. He touched Luo Ning’s hand through the screen, and a smile gradually formed on his lips.

“Your lover is currently filled with affection for you! He wants to give you a loving hug, and feeling your lover’s love is the most wonderful thing in the world!”

“There’s nothing happier than being in love!”

Gu Hanchen took a deep breath. The warm and cozy atmosphere that had just enveloped him was suddenly shattered. He was now even more convinced that this broken game’s system was an annoying presence, and he felt like tearing it apart.

“Although you’re willing to spend money and keep your lover happy, sweet words are also indispensable. If you want to learn more, feel free to purchase the Love Manual.”

“It can teach you how to communicate with your lover and how to make him happy. If you want to become a qualified partner, don’t miss this opportunity. Action is better than thought!”

“Expressing your feelings can help your relationship progress further. Sending hearts!”

Gu Hanchen looked at Luo Ning, who had sat on the big bed hugging a stuffed animal, completely unaware and fast asleep. He was curled up snugly in the soft blankets, his small body slightly rising and falling.

Although he felt the system was noisy and bothersome, he imagined the little figure’s slightly red eyes, glimmering with tears. What if he cried next time?

He sat there hesitating for a long time, seemingly uncontrollably purchasing that ridiculous manual.

Gu Hanchen furrowed his brows, looking at the glowing love symbol, and felt a bit regretful. He knew it probably wasn’t anything normal. How did he end up buying such a thing for no reason?

But since he had already purchased it, he thought he might as well check what it contained.

“For your lover, you should have a loving nickname, like darling, sweetheart, good baby, little cutie, or even wife. Only by using loving nicknames can you keep your lover in a joyful mood, living every day in the warmth of love.”

“Secondly, you should often say ‘I love you’ and bravely express your feelings. Let your lover know your passionate heart. This will facilitate big progress in your communication.”

Gu Hanchen suddenly closed it. Alright, enough of that. He could guess what it was talking about—a jumble of nonsense that made his teeth ache.

This broken system should be tossed back into the furnace to be rebuilt. He had no interest in reading any more manuals. He flipped through the shopping cart to see if there was anything else to add. He selected a few more self-defense items and finally felt at ease. He discovered there were even television, cameras, and a pet bunny. Remembering the little guy’s aggrieved look, he bought those as well, thinking that filling the house might lessen Luo Ning’s loneliness.
