A message popped up on the screen: “Your little lover is very hungry. Would you like to give him something to eat?”

The little man looked listless, his little tuft of hair drooping. His watery eyes shone with a mix of grievance and confusion, as if on the verge of tears. He looked quite pitiful.

Gu Hanchen casually scrolled past the message and closed the game. He had no intention of playing this boring game.

Regarding this unwanted virus, Gu Hanchen remained silent for a moment. He planned to buy another phone. Outside, the rain was falling heavily. His legs were in unbearable pain. When he struggled to get up, a chill seeped in, preventing him from falling back asleep.

He stared blankly at the ceiling and lay quietly on the bed. His vision was enveloped with the annoying darkness. Suddenly remembering the game, he inexplicably opened it again.

The cute little figure in the game was still there, but he seemed to be running away from an ugly, dark creature. His hair was disheveled, and he looked terrified.

The little figure eventually dashed into the stone house, finally locking the monster outside, and collapsed on the ground in exhaustion.

Luo Ning gasped for breath, his round eyes still filled with anxiety. Beads of sweat dripped down his glistening skin. Peering through a crack, he only felt relief when the black lizard monster left. He never expected that as a virtual character, he would actually feel hunger and have to struggle to find food, only to discover there was nothing to eat outside.

Wild grasses were scattered sparsely. He tentatively dug some up, and a line of data flashed in front of him: “Emerald Vine, an edible wild vegetable.”

Without having time to say anything, as soon as he dug up the vine, a terrible feeling swept over him. From the seemingly calm dark soil behind him, a lizard suddenly sprang out. The data showed: “Level 1 Monster, low attack power.”

If even a level 1 monster was tough to deal with, what could he do against higher-level ones? Luo Ning felt overwhelmed. He truly didn’t know what kind of world he had entered, where he faced not only hunger but also danger.

Luo Ning couldn’t think of any self-defense methods. After the end of the previous world, he had gained a golden finger, but it was a strange thing called “The Most Coveted Perky Buttocks”. What use could this golden finger possibly have?!

Luo Ning complained a hundred times and then told himself to be strong. He looked at the unfamiliar wild vegetables in his hand, the ever-present flame in the room, and a small iron pot.

Luo Ning hadn’t found a water source, so he directly roasted the wild vegetables. They tasted like chewing on dried grass. They were completely bland, like chewing wax, but at least they filled his stomach. Luo Ning deeply felt how hard it was to live here. Not only couldn’t he meet his basic needs, but being the only person here was enough to drive him insane. He wondered when he would be able to leave.

“Xiao Ba, could it be that I have to stay here for a lifetime?” Luo Ning said gloomily.

The system comforted him apologetically, “Ning Ning, don’t worry. It’s the program’s rule that the host can only be dropped into a world once. I couldn’t find a suitable body for you, so I had to use my permissions to buy a body, which is very troublesome. Please wait patiently.”

“Alright.” Luo Ning’s mood was somewhat poor.

At the same time, a message flashed on the phone screen. “Your little lover is feeling down right now. Would you like to comfort him?”

“He’s a bit hungry now. Would you like to buy him a sweet apple?”

In the image, the small figure sat in the center of a room, surrounded by dark shadows. His eyes were a bit red, looking pitiful and helpless, like a weak little animal without support, fidgeting anxiously.

Gu Hanchen frowned. He thought he had lost any feeling of sympathy, but perhaps it was because the image quality was so clear and the little figure was so fragile. By the time he reacted, his finger had already tapped on that message. A shopping list popped out, with two grayed-out boxes lit up.

The apples were cheap. Five gold coins were equivalent to about five yuan, and next was bread, costing six gold coins.

This amount of money wasn’t big for Gu Hanchen. His official bank card was restricted by the Gu family, but privately, he had already made money in the stock market abroad. Perhaps because he was merely seen as an ant in the eyes of the family, his movements weren’t restricted.

Gu Hanchen usually didn’t like to go out, but that didn’t mean he had accepted everything. No one in the Gu family knew what he had done, nor did they know how much money he had accumulated in his private accounts.

It was just to buy an apple. Gu Hanchen made the purchase quickly, and when he saw the screen light up, his actions stiffened. Did he really play such a ridiculous game? Forget it, seeing the little figure about to cry made him buy it anyway.

Suddenly, an apple appeared in front of Luo Ning. He looked around in surprise. Where did it come from?

A dialogue box popped up in the air: “Your lover sent you an apple. Please check it!”

Luo Ning was startled. Where did he get a lover? The system was currently finding a way to buy him a body. He could only speculate since the system wasn’t online.

Since this was a game, it must have players willing to spend money. He remembered the system once saying it would send him next to the male supporting character. Could it be in this manner? But would that kind of character even be interested in the game?!

As if to confirm his guess, a message appeared before Gu Hanchen: “Your lover Luo Ning has positive feelings for you. He likes sweet apples and wants to know your name. Would you like to establish a closer relationship with him?”

Gu Hanchen’s finger brushed over the two characters. So this was the little figure’s name? He looked at the small figure holding the apple, his eyes flashing with curiosity. After a moment of silence, he chose to input “Hanchen.”

He thought he must be silly to be so childish as to communicate with a virtual character. He wanted to uninstall this game and throw away his phone, but deep down, he was curious about the little figure’s reaction.

Seeing the name “Hanchen,” Luo Ning was surprised. He had indeed arrived next to the male supporting character.

Feeling a bit delighted, he wanted to talk to the male supporting character but couldn’t find a way to communicate. Then he realized the game was too intelligent. Whatever he thought could generally be conveyed to the other person.

“Your lover wants to say hello and chat with you. Would you like that?”

Gu Hanchen clicked “YES,” and a speech bubble appeared above the small figure: “The apple is delicious, thank you!”

He saw the little figure smiling sweetly, with dimples appearing on his cheeks, his crescent-like eyes full of innocence and cuteness. He typed a message: “Are you still hungry?”

Luo Ning’s cheeks were puffed up. “I’m good. This apple is very big, it’s enough to fill me up.”

“I’m happy to know you.”

Gu Hanchen pursed his lips and glanced at the small figure’s shabby little house. Thinking about the few options in the game, he asked, “Do you want some bread?”

Luo Ning was full now, but then he thought of the basic needs later. If he got hungry again, he would have to risk going out for food, so he weakly said, “I do.”

A few pieces of bread weren’t a problem for Gu Hanchen. He quickly ordered a large quantity of bread.

Luo Ning looked at the piles of bread surrounding him. He hurriedly waved his small hands. Any more and he would be buried under them.

Gu Hanchen watched his flustered appearance, a smile tugging at his lips. Playing this kind of game felt childish.

But it helped distract him, his legs seemed to hurt less. “Are you all alone?”

Luo Ning wanted more contact with Gu Hanchen, so he replied, “Yes, there’s no one else here, just a house and a few monsters. I can only eat alone and sleep alone. I feel very lonely. Could you stay with me a bit more?”

Gu Hanchen’s heart was pricked. When the little figure requested eagerly, his face was filled with expectation, and his eyes sparkled like stars. He suddenly remembered this was a love game and couldn’t help but chuckle. How old was he, already thinking about romance? He vaguely replied, “We’ll see.”

Then he saw the little figure droop his head in disappointment, his whole body radiating despair. Another message flashed on the screen: “Your little lover is unhappy right now. Would you like to cheer him up?”

Gu Hanchen clicked “decline”. He might not play this game again in the future. Besides, it’s not like him to make promises to a virtual character.

Luo Ning said, “You just need to come and talk to me occasionally. There are monsters outside, and I’m scared to be alone.”

“I want to get to know you as a friend.”

Remembering the monsters that had chased him earlier, Gu Hanchen replied, “Monsters can’t get close to your house. Remember to close the door when you sleep. If I have time, I’ll bring you food.”

Luo Ning’s eyes lit up. “You’re so nice. Thank you!”

Gu Hanchen felt this game was addictive and overly smart. Although its basic features were meant to lure him into spending money, every expression and glance of the small figure on the screen felt so real that he unconsciously interacted with it as if it were a real person.

But in reality, it was absurd that he was bored enough to converse this long with someone who didn’t even exist.

Meanwhile, Luo Ning yawned. He was feeling a bit sleepy. He noticed a pattern: although the surrounding environment differed greatly from the real world, the cycle of day and night, along with his bodily needs, was relatively normal. Now it had suddenly become dark outside, and the room was only lit with a dim yellow light. His life should have followed a routine—eating, drinking, and sleeping. Thankfully, he could sleep. In such a boring place, sleeping was the only way to pass the time.

Thus, the little figure on the screen gently yawned, his bright eyes drooping. A cartoon bubble formed at the tip of his nose as a series of “zzzz” floated above his head.

“Your lover wants to sleep. Would you like to coax him to sleep?”

“Would you like to buy him a small blanket, a pillow, and a quilt to make his sleep more comfortable?”

At this moment, Gu Hanchen noticed that three items were unlocked in the shopping cart. Without checking his coins, he chose to buy them. Suddenly, fluffy bedding appeared in the empty house, adorned with little cloud patterns.

Luo Ning hugged it comfortably. He really wanted to sleep. Even though they didn’t know each other well, Gu Hanchen buying these things for him felt incredibly gentle.

Despite wanting to spend more time with Gu Hanchen, he was too tired. He thanked him softly and said, “See you tomorrow. Good night.”
