Luo Ning blinked and surveyed his surroundings. This was a very strange place. The sky was gray, and the soil around him was pitch black, with only a few sparse green plants and dense withered vines in the distance. There were no blooming flowers or signs of life. It was a gray and desolate scene.

The place he found himself in was merely a simple hut built from stones. There was nothing but a wooden board inside. He was wearing only a piece of rough linen clothing.

Luo Ning didn’t expect this world to be so impoverished. After a moment of confusion, he opened the door in front of him. The view beyond was limited, as if covered by a gray cloth, and everything was unclear.

Luo Ning quickly sensed something was off. Although there was air and warmth, there wasn’t a hint of breeze, creating a still atmosphere.

Feeling uneasy, he took a step back and spoke to the system. “Xiao Ba, where am I?”

“Ning Ning, have you ever played a game? Right now, you’re like an NPC in a game. This is the game world.”

Luo Ning was taken aback. “But why am I an NPC? Am I not even worthy of having a real form?”

Xiao Ba was embarrassed to admit that it had been obsessed with nurturing games recently, thus causing this mistake. It explained, “This is to facilitate the mission. This way, it is easier to approach the villain. I’ll send you the information about this world right away!”

Luo Ning examined the background of this world. It was indeed like this. Approaching the male supporting character as a human would make earning his trust nearly impossible.

The male supporting character was named Gu Hanchen, the eldest son of the prestigious Gu family in Beijing. Logically speaking, he should have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never had to worry about food or clothing. However, Gu Hanchen’s life was unfortunate, all because of his father.

His father had married for business ties but couldn’t forget his college sweetheart. With one foot in his marriage and another in his affair, after Gu Hanchen was born, he still failed to fulfill the responsibilities of a husband and father, only caring about his first love. This resulted in the birth of his illegitimate child, Gu Yuanfei, who was the male lead in this world.

The two children lived in vastly different situations. Since he was old enough to understand, Gu Hanchen had never received his father’s care. Birthdays and embraces were exclusively for Gu Yuanfei, who was treated like a precious treasure.

Even without his father’s affection, Gu Hanchen should have enjoyed the privileges of being a young master. But after his mother committed suicide due to depression, Gu Hanchen was completely neglected, becoming like wild grass that no one cared about. Within three months, his father brought his first love home, plunging Gu Hanchen’s life into a living nightmare. He watched helplessly as the illegitimate child received all the love while feeling the disgust from his father and the verbal and physical abuse from his stepmother.

Having endured such treatment at a young age, Gu Hanchen became silent and withdrawn. He thought about telling his grandfather.

But his father was unyielding, and being the only son of the elderly man, he was fearless. Gu Hanchen had no support. Complaining would only make his situation worse.

Gu Hanchen gradually fell silent. The only warmth he felt was from his maternal grandfather. But when his grandfather passed away, he was left with no family. At the age of twenty, before he had fully matured, a car accident left him disabled in both legs, removing him from the fight to succeed as heir. He knew it was his stepmother’s wicked plan, but he underestimated his father’s cruelty. The illegitimate child of his stepmother remained arrogant.

Gu Hanchen completely turned dark. He was not confined by his disabled legs. On the surface, he appeared gloomy and pathetic. In reality, he was secretly plotting revenge. His intelligence could be described as genius. He secretly studied biology and developed a new type of drug. Using this as leverage, he amassed great wealth and launched a furious assault against the Gu family, attracting national attention in the process.

The Gu family fell from grace. He sent his father and stepmother to prison, and Gu Yuanfei became a mental patient, tortured incessantly.

But with revenge fulfilled, Gu Hanchen was not happy, for he had lost everything. He ignited a great fire and walked alone towards death.

Luo Ning felt a heavy heart after reading this. Gu Hanchen had suffered too much. Despite not doing anything wrong, he had faced unjust treatment from the very beginning.

He didn’t know how he could comfort Gu Hanchen, nor did he know if he could give him what he wanted.

Luo Ning slowly squatted down, looking at the gray sky. “But right now, I’m trapped in this game. How can I meet Gu Hanchen? We’re separated by a dimension.”

Xiao Ba replied with a laugh, “Don’t worry, Ning Ning. I’ll find a way to send you there.”

…

Heavy curtains blocked the sunlight outside from the window, leaving only a few strands of light to seep through. A faint creaking noise echoed in the dim room. The sound was small yet strikingly harsh within the quiet space.

Gu Hanchen pushed his wheelchair to the window. His pitch-black, bottomless eyes seemed unperturbed by any noise.

It felt as if he were isolated in this little house, faint sounds of lively activity could be heard in the distance.

A hint of mockery crossed Gu Hanchen’s eyes. Ever since he became disabled, they had thrown him here, allowing him to live but doing nothing more than that. Did they think they could control him by kicking him out of the company and crippling his body?

How ridiculous…

Gu Hanchen knew that not letting him die was just a means of humiliating him further. He wouldn’t accept his fate easily. He would wait and then return everything they had done to him tenfold or hundredfold.

He repressed his emotions, unwilling to partake in the slightest cheers from the outside world. He rolled his wheelchair back and disappeared into the shadows.

His phone emitted a faint glow. Gu Hanchen frowned as a strange game suddenly appeared on his screen—a pink heart flashing with light, titled “Raising a Lover Strategy.”

Gu Hanchen impatiently deleted it. He had never been interested in games and had never downloaded such a thing. He found this unexpected intrusion deeply unpleasant. But oddly enough, the game wouldn’t delete.

Looking at the flashing heart on his screen, irritation appeared in Gu Hanchen’s eyes. After several attempts, he confirmed that it was a stubborn virus that had somehow taken root in his phone.

Gu Hanchen opened the game. For the first few seconds, against a deep blue backdrop, countless hearts floated, sparkling astonishingly. The game introduced itself: “Plant a gold coin today, and tomorrow you can harvest a wife!”

Gu Hanchen scoffed, feeling incredibly bored. Compared to the lavish opening visual, the actual game scene was quite rudimentary and gray. Gradually, he saw a simple stone house appear on the gray ground, along with a chibi-style figure within his view.

The little figure was petite and delicate, with slightly curly dark hair falling down, round cheeks, fair skin, and twinkling hazel eyes. Its lips were small, with chubby arms and legs resembling a little angel. The figure was frowning for an unknown reason, adding to its cuteness.

The graphics were very clear, and Gu Hanchen was puzzled. Is game technology this advanced now?

He refused to admit that he found the little man somewhat interesting. His fingers tightened. He felt that the light in the little man’s eyes was somewhat blinding.
