After speaking to him, Luo Ning didn’t know what to talk about. He sat stiffly and turned on the TV. “Brother Ye, do you want to watch a movie?”

Ye Xingzhou casually took a piece of hawthorn slice and replied in a light tone, “Anything is fine.”

Luo Ning hesitated for a moment and said, “Then let’s watch that comedy that was released not long ago.”

Luo Ning hadn’t seen the movie before but had noticed it received good reviews online. The actors’ acting skills were on point and it had a lively and humorous style, so he chose this one.

As the movie started, Luo Ning snuggled into the sofa.

Initially, the background music was cheerful. As usual, it included elements of romance. The story revolved around the two male leads. The petite male lead 0 chased after the handsome male lead 1. There were also various silly side characters, which caused a series of hilarious stories.

There were both joyous and bittersweet moments, and the actors’ performances were commendable and filled with humor. The first half hour was normal, but then the screen dimmed, with flickering lights. Curtains blocked the outside view, and two silhouettes overlapped inside. The air was thickening with warmth, filled with slightly heavy breaths that felt dense and ambiguous, as if a flame had been ignited.

The tall man tightly held the other person in his arms, their faces close, lips and teeth touching, breaths intertwining without gaps. Their faces showed excitement and agitation, their hands clutching at each other’s collars.

The bedding was in disarray.

Luo Ning: ?!

Suddenly seeing this scene and hearing the intimate sounds made his eyes widen, his ears turning red as if a blush had crept up. After the shock, embarrassment took over, and his toes curled up awkwardly.

His face was burning hot. Who could tell him why a comedy movie would have such scenes?

And they even gave it a close-up!

Were they not done kissing yet?

He wished he could find a crack in the ground to hide in. If it were just him, that would be one thing, but sitting next to Ye Xingzhou made it far too awkward.

Luo Ning frantically grabbed the remote and skipped past that part, his voice trembling as he explained, “We’re both single, so we don’t need to watch this part.”

Ye Xingzhou’s gaze deepened slightly, his eyes filled with meaning. He knew the young actor’s invitation wasn’t just for casual company. He had clearly set this up, intentionally suggesting watching a movie, waiting for this type of scene, and deliberately hinting at something. The young actor was so cunning!

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t fall for the trap. He wasn’t that easy to get.

Luo Ning felt like he was sitting on pins and needles. Noticing Ye Xingzhou’s gaze, his back stiffened, and his throat felt dry. Suddenly, the atmosphere grew quiet. He pretended to be nonchalant, staring at the TV screen without moving his eyes, though in reality he had lost interest in watching.

Time seemed to slow down. Luo Ning didn’t even know what he was embarrassed about, just worrying that another intense scene might pop up. When the movie finally ended, he let out a small sigh of relief.

He licked his slightly dry lips, glanced at the time, and realized it was already eleven at night. He nervously fidgeted with his fingers and said softly, “Brother Ye, it’s getting a bit late.”

Ye Xingzhou sat steadily on the sofa, lightly tapping his fingers on his thigh. Here it comes. He knew this person wouldn’t be satisfied and would want to take things a step further.

The next step was likely for him to stay the night. It was definitely planned from the start. With two people staying late at night in this small bedroom, it was the perfect opportunity to create a certain atmosphere. He might even suggest sharing a bed.

Ye Xingzhou felt like he could see through the young actor’s intentions. Today’s series of events must have been premeditated. The young actor had held back for a while but was finally unable to resist making a move.

Ye Xingzhou felt conflicted. Should he agree or not?

As he was lost in these chaotic thoughts, his expression grew serious. Luo Ning apologetically began to send him off, “Brother Ye, I think I’ll rest now. I’m a bit tired and can’t entertain you any longer. Please be safe on your way home.”

Huh?! Ye Xingzhou doubted his ears. He wasn’t being asked to stay? Why was this great opportunity being wasted? Why wasn’t the young actor pushing for more?

Ye Xingzhou was no longer in a flustered state, but a hint of disappointment crossed his heart. His expression turned even more serious. He fell silent for a moment before responding and heading towards the door.

As the warm light flickered behind him, Ye Xingzhou was about to leave when he heard Luo Ning say, “Brother Ye, wait a moment.”

Ye Xingzhou immediately halted, his usually stern brows relaxing, a slight smile curling at the corners of his lips. See? He knew this guy wouldn’t give up that easily. He would surely come back with something.

He was convinced he hadn’t misjudged.

But Luo Ning simply handed him a box of homemade desserts and said plainly, “Brother Ye, goodbye.”

Ye Xingzhou’s smile froze. Holding the box, he thought to himself that this was definitely a case of a cat and mouse game, it must be.

As he comforted himself, Ye Xingzhou made his way home through the dark night breeze.

…

After leaving the crew, Luo Ning took a few days to rest at home, sleeping in, watching TV, and eating chips. After enough of being a couch potato, he went out looking for new opportunities.

With no filming and no friends to chat with, Luo Ning felt unsettled in his empty home. Following the information from Director Zheng, Luo Ning looked up a fantasy drama that was adapted from a bestselling novel two years ago, “Immortal Questions,” which had gained a portion of fan support.

Fantasy dramas might flop due to special effects or receive backlash online, but if well-prepared, they could dominate the market.

The director of this drama was Chen Han. He was known for his reputable historical dramas, not the type of director who made bad films.

Promotions were already underway on his Weibo. Since it was his first time shooting a fantasy theme, Chen Han would be very strict in his oversight.

Luo Ning knew that given his current status, he wouldn’t be able to audition for the male lead, and he wasn’t particularly interested in the role either.

On the contrary, he found the second male lead character more attractive. Initially, the second male lead had an ethereal and righteous persona as the protagonist’s mentor, but in reality he was a hidden villain. He was the number one demonic cultivator who brought many hardships to the protagonist, only to be defeated by him in the end.

Luo Ning was drawn to the character’s twists. Unlike traditional second male leads who were madly in love with the female lead, this one was more like a villain with ambition, and he was quite handsome.

Having done his homework, Luo Ning bought the novel and finished it in three days, analyzing the characters’ personalities and state of mind and practicing in front of a mirror.

Once he felt he had a good grasp of the role, he went to the audition.

In the lobby, many actors were waiting to audition. They were all aware of the potential of this drama and were hoping to get a role. Some even looked familiar, having played supporting roles in other dramas.

When they saw Luo Ning, their initial surprise at his looks quickly turned to disdain.

They didn’t regard him highly, as everyone knew about Luo Ning’s exaggerated acting skills. Even the worst actor seemed to gain confidence when facing Luo Ning, looking down on him and not bothering to speak.

Luo Ning didn’t mind. He held his number tag, feeling too noisy to chat.

There was some commotion nearby. A person in a white coat and sunglasses, with a few strands of dyed color in his hair, walked in. His chin was slightly raised, exuding confidence.

Through the sunglasses, even half of his face was recognizable. He was Han Ke, a currently popular young actor known for singing, dancing, and playing likable roles, who had garnered a large fan base, straddling the line between third- and second-tier star.

Upon spotting Han Ke, everyone in the lobby focused their attention on him, a mix of envy and jealousy. They all wanted to experience that star-studded life but also felt a bit anxious.

After all, a current popular young actor like him was auditioning for this drama. It would be difficult to secure even a supporting role.

Luo Ning turned his gaze, thinking about his role. He had just overheard Han Ke’s manager mention that Han Ke was also auditioning for the second male lead.

Now he had competition. Luo Ning wondered if he could successfully join this production. For now, he focused on memorizing his lines, thinking about how to perform the required scenes perfectly.

The director might choose a more popular star for the sake of viewership and attract more fans. Luo Ning was aware that this could happen, but worrying wouldn’t help now.

Moreover, he usually remained relatively calm about such things. If he could create a character that impressed the director and perform exceptionally well, he had a good chance of landing the second male lead role.

About half an hour later, it was Luo Ning’s turn. He walked in first and politely greeted the director, assistant director, and producer.

The director showed no signs of rejection towards Luo Ning. First was because Luo Ning had clear and upright eyes, and second because he had heard from a friend that Luo Ning had made great progress. Thus, he could view him calmly and patiently wait for Luo Ning’s performance.

But when Luo Ning chose the second male lead’s segment to perform, the director couldn’t help but furrow his brows. He felt that Luo Ning’s gorgeous face was not suitable for the role of the celestial and high-minded master. His beauty was too dazzling and lacked the aura of a superior figure.

The segment Luo Ning chose was the moment the second male lead, Venerable Ling Yu, revealed his true identity.

He was originally aloof and ethereal with a presence as chilling as frost, but his eyes revealed a pity for his junior. He stood for justice, unadorned by any personal gain and righteous. But when his own disciple exposed his identity, a spiritual arrow shot into his chest. With the evidence laid bare, he became the target of everyone’s scorn. Despite his snowy white robe, his gentle and clear eyes turned cold and deep.

A faint smile began to appear on his cold face. He wiped away the bloodstain, staining his fingers with a seductive crimson. He exuded a demonic charm, proud and reckless, enchanting those around him.

The shift in his aura occurred in an instant, yet it felt completely natural.

Director Chen Han’s eyes lit up. He straightened his posture and gripped his fingers tightly, focusing intently on Luo Ning. He was pleasantly surprised. Luo Ning’s performance exceeded his expectations.

He originally thought Luo Ning’s face wouldn’t be able to carry the role, but the real strength of his acting was enough to overshadow that face. As the celestial master, he was dignified and upright, and as the demonic cultivator, he was wicked enough.
