Chapter 97: Is the Person in the Painting Really Xia Ruoming…

***

Because she already had enough wealth, she didn’t need to rely on Jiang Ruhua anymore, and could reach for those glittering stars in the clouds above.

Because she far surpassed her past self, she no longer needed to live like a defeated dog as in her previous life, only to end up with regrets.

“What’s wrong, Ruoming?” Seeing Xia Ruoming standing still, not taking a step forward, Jiang Ruhua couldn’t help but ask.

After being gently pushed by Jiang Ruhua a few times, Xia Ruoming finally snapped out of her memories.

“It’s nothing, let’s go.” Xia Ruoming shook her head slightly, temporarily chasing away those complicated thoughts from her mind.

Although Xia Ruoming didn’t say anything, Jiang Ruhua still felt that Xia Ruoming seemed somewhat unsettled.

“Little princess, I’m warning you one more time, don’t harass me in my bed, or you’ll sleep alone.” After climbing into bed, Xia Ruoming spoke again.

Although the super-large cloud-style solid wood bed was big enough for three people, Xia Ruoming didn’t want to replay the scene from that day when she slept with Xu Fengwu. That day she had indeed managed to control her already restless heart, but if there was a next time, she couldn’t guarantee she would be able to do it again.

Doing such things wouldn’t be good after all…

“Xia Ruoming, you’re really too full of yourself. Although you do have a good appearance, not everyone is interested in your body.” Jiang Ruhua tried hard to act completely indifferent, though she actually had some thoughts of making the first move, but after Xia Ruoming spoke about it, she felt somewhat guilty and didn’t dare to do anything.

Seeing Jiang Ruhua’s slightly faltering tone and inability to look directly at her, Xia Ruoming didn’t say much more, just quietly turned off the lights and went to bed.

These past two days, because of her worrying nature, she was really too mentally exhausted. At this moment, she truly just wanted to have a good sleep. Whatever Jiang Ruhua was thinking, she didn’t want to care anymore, after all, she had already given her warning.

Seeing that Xia Ruoming seemed to have fallen asleep right away, Jiang Ruhua let out a light snort before quietly turning to the other side of the bed, covering herself with the blanket and closing her eyes.

After entering dreamland, Xia Ruoming once again dreamed of her previous life.

The first time she met Jiang Ruhua, that still somewhat naive young lady used an extremely annoying tone saying she wanted to keep her, and even said such things in public.

Jiang Ruhua had prepared for three years before approaching her again, investigating all her stories, grasping all her weaknesses, and when she needed help the most, tempting her to begin that extremely dangerous game.

Skiing together at West Ridge Snow Mountain, camping together by the mountain lake to watch Diamond Fuji, fishing together at Tuolumne Meadows National Park, sitting shoulder to shoulder watching the moon at the riverside villa… They did so many things that only couples would do, yet they were never a couple.

Xia Ruoming had always wondered if things would have been different if she had been more proactive back then.

But that was just thinking in dreams… How could it be possible… After all, Jiang Ruhua’s relationship with her back then was just a transaction…

When she had just been reborn, Xia Ruoming felt she had no regrets, but as time passed, she began to discover there were too many things she wanted to make up for.

In the dream, Xia Ruoming once again experienced being abandoned by Jiang Ruhua. She still felt no anger or resentment, only deep regret. If little princess had just grown tired of the game, that would be fine, but if not, she didn’t even know why little princess had done this, and in the dream, she had no chance to reconcile with little princess, because a dump truck with bright headlights was already coming head-on…

When Xia Ruoming woke up, her back was completely soaked in cold sweat, not knowing when she had become so immersed in the dream.

Looking at the faint light at the edge of the sky outside the window, Xia Ruoming didn’t disturb Jiang Ruhua, quietly got out of bed, and slipped into her newly prepared studio.

In her previous life, Xia Ruoming also liked to dive into her studio or hide in her study whenever inspiration struck, regardless of what time it was. The enclosed studio and study could also help alleviate her agoraphobia. But that kind of inspirational impulse seemed to gradually disappear from Xia Ruoming’s mind as time passed. Perhaps it was because of that dream from her previous life’s experience that made Xia Ruoming feel some desire to pick up her brush again.

“Ruoming…” After who knows how long, Jiang Ruhua also woke up on the bed, and after rubbing her eyes, she found Xia Ruoming wasn’t in bed. Jiang Ruhua reflexively searched everywhere in the room for traces of Xia Ruoming. After discovering Xia Ruoming wasn’t in the bedroom either, Jiang Ruhua’s heart even started to panic for a moment. She didn’t know why, but she had somehow developed a sense of dependence on Xia Ruoming.

Supporting herself against the wall as she walked out of the bedroom, Jiang Ruhua saw a faint light coming from a small room and quietly walked over. She was still not fully recovered, and halfway through the distance, her legs felt as if they were filled with metal. Although Hangzhou’s September temperature of just over 20 degrees wasn’t very hot, Jiang Ruhua’s pajamas were already wet with sweat.

Fortunately, there were things to hold onto for support along the way, and Jiang Ruhua managed to make it to the studio door.

The studio door wasn’t closed, perhaps because Xia Ruoming was used to being alone, in the past, no one would disturb her because no one was around her.

Xia Ruoming was half-crouching in front of the easel, carefully painting bit by bit with her paint brush. Jiang Ruhua didn’t have much artistic accomplishment, so she didn’t truly understand how to appreciate artwork, she just liked beautiful paintings. But she really liked Xia Ruoming’s serious profile.

At that moment, a scene suddenly appeared in Jiang Ruhua’s mind, overlapping with the current studio.

A young woman with ice-blue long hair, similarly quietly drawing her work in the studio, and another young woman, standing at the doorway, silently watching her.

Jiang Ruhua didn’t know if this strange scene came from her imagination after seeing Xia Ruoming’s painting.

The painting showed a young woman with ice-blue long hair, arm in arm with a chestnut-haired young woman who was obviously much shorter than her, the two of them exchanging drinks they had just bought, whispering something to each other.

Looking carefully at the faces of the people in the painting, Jiang Ruhua discovered that the young woman with ice-blue hair seemed to be Xia Ruoming herself.

Despite having identical facial features, Jiang Ruhua had doubts, was the person Xia Ruoming painted really herself? The person in the painting had an unconventional hair color, wore heavy makeup, and had a certain inexplicable quality that could be felt even through the paper, somewhat sharp and prominent, completely different from the current Xia Ruoming.

If Jiang Ruhua hadn’t clearly seen the face that Xia Ruoming had depicted, she would never have believed that Xia Ruoming had painted herself.
