Chapter 8: How Can This Broken Bag Be So Heavy
***
“Alright, time’s up, hand in your papers.” Xiao Qinghan looked at her watch and said to those below the podium.
Although many students seemed unwilling, they still turned in their papers.
As soon as the tense atmosphere ended, everyone immediately started complaining.
“Damn, who made these questions, why are they so difficult?”
“Sigh… I guessed on so many questions, I’m done for…”
“You’re still better off, I didn’t even have time to do several questions…”
The sighs echoed throughout the classroom without stopping.
Xia Ruoming walked leisurely to the podium and handed her test paper to Xiao Qinghan. Xiao Qinghan briefly scanned the paper, pushed up her glasses frame, and looked at Xia Ruoming with some surprise.
She looked haggard as if she had been tormenting herself, but with one glance, Xiao Qinghan saw that there seemed to be no errors on the test paper, not even correction marks. That this child could adjust so quickly and have such firm determination, it seemed her future achievements might be even higher than Xiao Qinghan had imagined. Moreover, this test was deliberately made more difficult, yet Xia Ruoming not only didn’t complain like other average students but even had a relaxed expression.
Could it be that some people actually unleash their potential after heartbreak?
“How was the test, Ji Chuan?” Xia Ruoming didn’t mind teacher Xiao Qinghan’s strange expression, and went straight to Ji Chuan’s side, patting his shoulder and asking.
“Too difficult, I couldn’t do the last few questions at all.” Ji Chuan scratched his head worriedly.
“Stop scratching, you’ll make yourself bald.” Xia Ruoming grabbed his scratching hand, “From now on, just study with me, I’ll teach you.”
“Won’t that affect you?” Ji Chuan asked somewhat timidly. He had talent, and actually he wasn’t unable to learn. In middle school, it was because Xia Ruoming helped him study that he could keep up with the pace. If he had to study alone, it would have killed him. But he really didn’t want to affect Xia Ruoming either. After all, he knew that in middle school, if she hadn’t spent time teaching him, this “sister” wouldn’t have barely made it here, while he passed easily.
“Just listen to me.” Now after rebirth, not only had her intelligence increased, but her mental state was also far better than before. Tutoring Ji Chuan wasn’t a problem, and wouldn’t even affect her own studies.
“Okay.” Ji Chuan nodded silently, knowing that once Xia Ruoming decided something, she wouldn’t easily change her mind.
Xia Ruoming directly pulled over her chair, sat next to Ji Chuan, then took out scratch paper and began explaining how to solve the third-to-last question. Ji Chuan listened while taking notes and nodding.
For some reason, he would always feel sleepy during teachers’ lectures, but found it fascinating when his sworn sister taught.
“Tch, Fengwu, look at those two, still having the nerve to study together. Hanging out with people like that will only make you worse and worse. You absolutely must not agree to her.” Li Jing looked on with disgust, clearly not having forgotten the grudge from lunch in the cafeteria, and started stirring up trouble beside Xu Fengwu again.
Xu Fengwu didn’t make any response, just looked at the two of them once before silently returning to her seat to read.
Soon the break time ended, and the next exam began.
……
The following time was filled with exams for different subjects, testing the entire afternoon, even using the evening self-study time for exams.
It didn’t end until 9:30.
And it still wasn’t finished, there would be more tomorrow morning. Who knows which idiot arranged this, not finishing it all in one day but splitting it into morning and afternoon over two days.
As soon as the exam finished, Xia Ruoming immediately pulled Ji Chuan away.
Xu Fengwu stood alone in the classroom holding her schoolbag with both hands, staring blankly at Xia Ruoming’s empty seat.
In high school, many people would leave useless books and materials in their desk drawers since they’d be back the next day anyway, but to avoid accidents or times when she might need certain books, Xu Fengwu always stuffed most of her books and materials into her schoolbag. The weight of that bag was comparable to carrying two MSI GT72S laptops plus their power adapters, but it didn’t matter, after all, every day Xia Ruoming would carry the bag back for her, and she could leisurely return home alone.
Xu Fengwu thought Xia Ruoming had forgotten, so she sent her a message on QQ, but there was no reply even by 9:45.
On Xia Ruoming’s side, she opened her phone, saw Xu Fengwu’s message, and decisively turned off the screen.
Xu Fengwu stomped her foot, gritted her teeth and put the schoolbag on her back, feeling like she was carrying a bag of rocks. She nearly stumbled and fell to the ground. She really felt like crying, how could a schoolbag be so heavy?
For the first time, she somewhat understood Xia Ruoming’s situation, riding a broken bicycle without a basket while carrying her schoolbag.
This bag would be considered heavy even if placed in a large bicycle basket, let alone just carrying it.
Xu Fengwu struggled to walk to the bus stop with the heavy schoolbag, feeling like her legs were about to fall apart. This was the first time in these years that she had carried this schoolbag.
After getting off at the bus stop, she still had to walk a distance to get home! Xu Fengwu felt like she was about to break down!
“Xia Ruoming! If you dare play some hard-to-get game, I will absolutely never pay attention to you again!” Xu Fengwu shouted in her heart with tears in her eyes.
……
Meanwhile.
“Ah… achoo!!” Xia Ruoming and Ji Chuan were riding their bikes on the road when she suddenly sneezed. It had to be said, not having to carry Xu Fengwu’s bag and riding alone was quite pleasant, especially the feeling of the cool breeze on her face.
“What’s wrong? Caught a cold after going crazy drinking last night?”
“It feels… different, Auntie Zhong did cover me with a blanket. Feels like someone was cursing me, it wasn’t you, was it?” Xia Ruoming pinched her nose, it didn’t seem particularly itchy, she just suddenly sneezed for no reason.
If she knew it was Xu Fengwu cursing her in her heart, she’d probably reply “it’s a deal, double happiness.”
“Look at how pure and kind I am, how could I curse you in my heart, right, sis?” Ji Chuan looked at Xia Ruoming with an innocent face. Although he had done it plenty of times before, it really wasn’t him this time.
“You head home first.” Xia Ruoming looked at their surroundings, suddenly pondered for a moment, then said to him.
“You’re not coming with me?”
“I… have something to take care of.” She rode her bike directly toward another road, waving her hand at Ji Chuan.
“You’re not going back to pick up Xu Fengwu, are you… sis, you said…” Ji Chuan sent a voice message on QQ, leaving Xia Ruoming completely speechless.
“Get out of here, I have important business to do, I’ll contact you when I get home.” She sent back a voice message, “Don’t worry, I said I wouldn’t grovel to her, so I definitely won’t turn back.”
Then Xia Ruoming directly entered a personal salon, this salon was recommended to her by others, and was also a place she really liked to visit in her previous life.
“Miss, what can I help you with?” A person who looked like a stylist in the salon directly asked.
