Chapter 132: What She Really Wants to Make

***

“Ruhua, don’t you think a talented lady and a gifted person are naturally meant to be together? I think Ruoming and I are destined for each other, there’s no one more suitable than us. She plays the guqin so well, and with me accompanying on violin in the future, wouldn’t we be the perfect match, a match made in heaven?” Ye Han continued sending messages that could make Jiang Ruhua’s face burn, knowing that Jiang Ruhua couldn’t play any instruments, she deliberately said such things to provoke her.

Back at the cocktail party, Ye Han had already decided that she not only wanted to steal Xia Ruoming away but also wanted to really irritate this ‘childhood friend’ who had never gotten along with her since they were young, to tell this big fool that she was the more excellent one from past to present.

Ah, how would Jiang Ruhua with her little princess personality understand such things? Someone like herself, gentle and virtuous on the inside, equipped with both ideas and capability on the outside, is more appealing to career women like Xia Ruoming. Little princesses like her should just stay in their greenhouse.

“Haha, you.” Jiang Ruhua, who Ye Han thought would be triggered, sent back a merciless mockery, “Let Uncle Ye send you to a mental hospital, I think your condition is getting worse and worse, Hanhan.”

Ye Han: “…”

Jiang Ruhua looked at Ye Han, whose smugness was almost jumping out of the screen, and couldn’t help but give a cold laugh.

From childhood till now, Ye Han had never won anything against her. Whatever she wanted, Ye Han had never obtained.

“Then when Xia Ruoming and I get married, Ruhua, you must come and share a toast at our wedding.”

“Haha! I’m afraid I’ll have one foot in the grave before I see that day come.” Jiang Ruhua was equally merciless.

The two frenemies who were plastic besties to begin with, at this moment, officially “fell out.”

At this moment, they could never have imagined that they would indeed drink at each other’s weddings, just… in an unusual and unreasonable way. If they were told this now, they probably wouldn’t be able to accept it themselves.

……

……

Xia Ruoming, who was in the game development department, didn’t know what Ye Han had done. At this time, she was only focused on watching the development progress of her new game “Slay the Spire,” while handing over the modified original art drafts to the development team.

Then she found a spot and started drawing some unfinished Western fantasy original art that other employees couldn’t understand using a digital tablet.

Although no one understood what the boss was doing, no one would go up and ask, avoiding making themselves uncomfortable.

Actually, the game Xia Ruoming really wanted to make wasn’t those AAA titles, but a cRPG game that combined Baldur’s Gate and Wrath of the Righteous. The immersive story experience of Baldur’s Gate 3 from her previous life was truly unforgettable to Xia Ruoming. But Baldur’s Gate 3 also had its shortcomings, messy UI and translation issues were minor problems. For most players who hadn’t been exposed to cRPGs but had learned about the rulebooks, the problem with Baldur’s Gate 3 was that it wasn’t satisfying enough.

Although many people like the immersive experience of being a “small character, big hero” in Baldur’s Gate 3, the dragon-proud storyline in Wrath of the Righteous that opened all levels and allowed one to decide their fate among demigods, where legendary paths could lead to physical ascension, was a particularly rare type in cRPGs. While old 5E players might find it a bit low, it’s the biggest reason to attract players who haven’t been exposed to such games.

Wrath of the Righteous had another particularly well-designed aspect, which was character design.

What do many people like to do most?

“Send good girls down a dark path, persuade courtesans to reform.”

So Wrath of the Righteous specifically designed a “fallen good” succubus, this kind of design seemed to have received quite a welcome in the cRPG game world, to the extent that a certain drow in Baldur’s Gate 3 was also designed this way.

After finishing, Xia Ruoming called Li Wuya over and handed him a pile of manuscripts and design plans.

“Junior, what is this?” Li Wuya looked through the manuscripts but couldn’t understand what they were.

“This is my new project, different from the card game I gave you before. Have you played the new game Divinity: Original Sin that came out this year? This game is similar to that type, the gameplay is not very different. This project doesn’t need to start now, because it might take several years anyway, you can start developing this game after the game department’s recruitment is complete,” Xia Ruoming explained to him. Since such things couldn’t be explained clearly at once, she chose a game released this year as an example.

“Uh…” Li Wuya scratched his no-longer-greasy hair, looking embarrassed. Although he was now in charge of game development, he knew nothing about this year’s game market trends, which was indeed quite embarrassing. “Actually, junior, I’m not that interested in games now, so I’m not very familiar…”

Actually, Li Wuya felt very guilty saying this because just last night, he had played three consecutive rounds of the testing version of Slay the Spire, admiring how his junior could come up with such an addictive game. Although it was just a card game, it seemed impossible to stop once you started playing. Even though the game version was full of bugs, he almost played through the night, and was so caught up in playing that he forgot about bug testing.

Of course, he was too embarrassed to say this. Getting addicted to playing the game you’re developing was a bit shameful…

Seeing that Li Wuya hadn’t learned about this type of game that would become popular in the future, Xia Ruoming could only patiently explain what type of game cRPG was, as well as some things about 5E rulebooks and DnD background settings. When it came to some key points, she had to write them out in detail for Li Wuya to prevent him from not understanding just by listening.

This explanation went on endlessly, Xia Ruoming herself hadn’t noticed how quickly time passed, while Li Wuya on the side listened with great interest, not feeling bored at all.

“Well… let’s stop here for today, this is a game with particularly complex settings, we can only cover this much in this time.” Xia Ruoming felt her throat was getting a bit hoarse, so she ended today’s “teaching.”

“But junior, if all actions in these games are determined by dice rolls, isn’t that too dependent on luck? Won’t this make players feel too frustrated and give up the game?” Li Wuya looked at the notes on the paper and asked puzzledly.

“This is where the essence of the game lies.” Xia Ruoming replied with a light smile, but didn’t explain further, after all, she knew that players would SL (save/load) themselves, they just needed to add a quick SL option and karma dice like Baldur’s Gate 3.

Li Wuya didn’t ask further, after all, none of Xia Ruoming’s decisions had been wrong so far, and he absolutely believed in his junior’s ability. If his junior thought this made sense, it was better to listen to her.
