Chapter 106: The Intersection of Fate, An Jinrou
***
Meanwhile, inside Zhejiang University campus.
Xu Fengwu, who had just been dismissed, felt her legs were weak and could barely walk properly.
“Miss Xu, would you like some water?”
“Miss Xu, I have an ice pack here, it’ll make you feel much better if you apply it.”
There were still quite a few people surrounding her, but far fewer than when she first came to school — somehow word had gotten out, with rumors saying Xu Fengwu was Xia Ruoming’s official girlfriend, and it was supposedly confirmed by Xia Ruoming herself. There were even stories about someone getting beaten up by Xia Ruoming just for getting too close to Xu Fengwu, which made many sensible perverts back off.
Between beauty and life, reasonable people could tell which was more important, but there were always some brainless ones.
“Go away, I don’t need it,” Xu Fengwu said coldly, walking alone towards the shade while shielding her eyes from the sun.
During this time, Chu Suhe had always been covering for her. Having been protected too well by Xia Ruoming in high school, Xu Fengwu never really learned how to communicate normally with people. Her only way of driving away the men who liked to stick around her was to maintain a cold face, yet oddly enough, many people seemed to like exactly that, sticking to her like glue.
When she entered university, she and Chu Suhe were assigned to the same dormitory. When they walked together, even though Chu Suhe was actually the introverted one, she always ended up being the one driving away the annoying admirers.
Because of Xia Ruoming’s influence and how Chu Suhe always helped her drive away admirers, Xu Fengwu treated Chu Suhe well. She didn’t have any jealous thoughts, after all, she had already said she wanted to prove to Ruoming that she was better than those two women, and she couldn’t give herself a jealous image.
When Chu Suhe couldn’t afford shampoo and such things, she would lend them to her, and even gave her an extra set of bedding to use.
The first time Xu Fengwu and Chu Suhe went to the cafeteria together, she discovered just how miserable Chu Suhe’s situation was. Every day it was just white rice with prepared pickled vegetables, making even someone like Xu Fengwu, who rarely sympathized with others, feel a bit of pity. At that moment, Xu Fengwu suddenly wondered if Xia Ruoming’s fondness for Chu Suhe might have stemmed partly from pity, and if that was the case, wouldn’t Ruoming’s sense of pity disappear if she took good care of Chu Suhe?
However, what Xu Fengwu hadn’t expected was that whenever she tried to treat Chu Suhe to meals, Chu Suhe would always refuse for some reason. Moreover, whenever Chu Suhe used her shampoo and other things, she would only carefully use a tiny bit, making even her competitor feel extremely sympathetic. Only by using the excuse of sharing things between good friends could she get Chu Suhe to eat some of her dishes and snacks, but Chu Suhe would never eat too much.
Unlike Xia Ruoming, she couldn’t grasp Chu Suhe’s psychology, and could only helplessly accept this reality.
After finally getting rid of those annoying admirers, Xu Fengwu looked around twice, but the person she was thinking of didn’t appear.
Ever since Xia Ruoming returned to school, Chu Suhe somehow didn’t need to participate in military training anymore, and she suddenly became alone again.
If Xia Ruoming were still here, she would definitely have prepared her favorite iced drinks.
If Chu Suhe were still here, she wouldn’t have to face these annoying people by herself…
Despite being extremely wary of people around her being green tea bitches, she had let her guard down with Chu Suhe. Somehow, that frail girl had gained some significance in her heart. Perhaps one day she would also be grateful that it was Chu Suhe she met, and not another Li Jing.
These various thoughts brought her back to the events of a few days ago.
……
……
Xu Fengwu stood in front of a strange shop with a sign that read “An’s Magic House.” She didn’t know when this shop had opened — she hadn’t seen it three days ago when this was still a fruit shop.
She had always been somewhat interested in these mystical things, and driven by curiosity, she wandered into the shop.
Looking at the mysterious style of the interior decoration, Xu Fengwu began to doubt herself — had she remembered wrong, or could renovations really be done this quickly?
“Welcome,” a gentle voice rang out. An Jinrou sat behind the counter, observing the visitor from the doorway.
“Hello,” Xu Fengwu politely greeted back.
“How may I help you?” An Jinrou looked at the slightly nervous young woman before her, her face behind the veil seemingly breaking into a smile.
“Excuse me… what kind of shop is this?” Xu Fengwu had never seen such a shop in all these years. Even those shops that scammed people with mysticism usually sold some merchandise, like telling you this pendant could ward off evil spirits or that bracelet could bring good luck… but this shop seemed to have no products on display at all.
“Tarot card readings, though occasionally I provide other services as well,” An Jinrou responded with a smile. “Would you like to have your fortune read too?”
“How much does it cost?” Xu Fengwu raised an eyebrow. She was indeed interested in these things, and she was actually quite well-off, so if the price wasn’t too high, she wanted to try it even if it was fake.
“Hmm… you need to understand one thing…” An Jinrou hesitated, seeming to use great effort to say what came next, “This shop doesn’t charge money. Customers also can’t ask what the shop charges instead, not because I’m unwilling to tell you, but because I don’t know myself.”
“Huh? You mean you don’t charge money?” Xu Fengwu didn’t understand what An Jinrou was trying to say. If they didn’t even charge money, how did this little shop stay in business?
“That’s right, money means nothing to me. As for fortune-telling, if it’s done for money, it loses its original meaning.” As An Jinrou spoke, she took out the tarot cards, shuffled them on the table, and set them aside before slowly saying to Xu Fengwu.
“So, dear… customer, would you like to have your fortune read?”
For some reason, there seemed to be an awkward transition in An Jinrou’s words, but Xu Fengwu didn’t pay attention to it. Perhaps the shop owner hadn’t decided how to address her and only thought of it after speaking.
“Well… I might as well try,” Xu Fengwu blinked and sat down across from the counter.
If it didn’t cost money, what other price could there be? It was just a fortune telling session — it’s not like it could shorten her life span, right?
After Xu Fengwu sat down, An Jinrou’s smile hidden behind the veil disappeared, replaced by a serious expression. After shuffling the cards again, An Jinrou drew eight cards and arranged them in a circular pattern.
“Your fate is somewhat special, so I can’t use the traditional nine-square divination. I can only use the octagonal divination method that suits you,” An Jinrou explained. “Now, choose one card as your main fate card.”
