Only I Understand His Gentle Heart - Chapter 99.2
At 11:30 p.m., Tang Xin arrived home by taxi.
As she climbed the stairs, she felt like she had forgotten something. After drinking quite a bit with You Huan, her head was spinning, making it harder to think clearly. Only when she stood at her door and reached for her keys did the realization hit her like a brick—her luggage was still in Tang Yu’s car!
Tang Xin groaned, leaning against the wall outside her apartment. Her house keys were in another bag, and that bag was tucked safely inside her suitcase.
Feeling utterly defeated, she called Tang Yu.
Tang Yu was still working late at the office. When his phone buzzed, he had just stepped out of a meeting. Assistant Gao handed him his phone, and Tang Yu glanced at the screen before answering. “You just got home?”
“Tang Yu…” Her voice carried a pitiful tone.
“What’s wrong?” His voice sharpened with concern.
“Do you know…”
“Just tell me already.”
“My suitcase is still in your car, and my house keys are in another bag inside the suitcase!” Tang Xin sounded utterly exasperated. It had been such a long, emotionally turbulent day. From being terrified and crying earlier, to feeling elated while with Tang Yu, her emotions had ridden a rollercoaster. Now, she was locked out of her own home. She had envisioned ending her day with a nice bath and a good night’s sleep, only to be stuck in such a frustrating predicament.
Tang Yu grabbed his car keys from his desk and paused. “You’re at your front door now?”
“Uh-huh. Pathetically squatting by the wall.”
Tang Yu chuckled softly. “Isn’t there a café near your building? Go wait for me there. I’m coming over now.”
The café by her building usually stayed open until 1 a.m.
Tang Xin stepped into the cozy space and ordered a honey grapefruit tea. She settled onto a plush sofa and began scrolling through Weibo. The buzz surrounding the Counterterrorism incident was still going strong, and Tang Yu’s interview had garnered over 20,000 comments.
“Hmph.” She sniffed. “What’s so great about a big pig trotter?”
No matter how great, Tang Yu was her big pig trotter.
Switching apps, she opened Douban. A year ago, she had started a thread about wanting to “sleep with Tang Yu,” but she hadn’t updated it in ages. Surely, the forum regulars must be losing their minds by now.
Sure enough—
User 1: “OP keeps leaving us hanging! This thread’s been open for over a year. Is it a tragedy or a fairy tale? Give us closure already! I’m scared to follow this thread anymore—it’s clearly a trap!”
User 2: “OP, have you tried yet? Was it worth it?”
User 3: “I bet OP hasn’t slept with him yet. Otherwise, why would she disappear for so long?”
User 4: “Or maybe she did try, and it wasn’t good. That’s why she’s silent. Hahaha!”
Tang Xin. “…”
Netizens were truly the world’s most idle creatures.
She hadn’t tried anything yet, so how would they know if it was good or not?
Judging by appearances, though… it looked promising.
After some thought, Tang Xin began typing.
“Here’s an update! I’m officially in a relationship with him now. Rest assured, he didn’t choose me just because he couldn’t get with my best friend. Don’t even try leaving those kinds of comments—I won’t entertain them! He genuinely likes me, okay? I wouldn’t have agreed otherwise.
As for my best friend, things aren’t awkward between us. We’ve been friends for years, and that’s stronger than any drama over a pig trotter. Well… that comparison makes him sound bad. Scratch that.
Anyway, I’m just here to say: I’m in love! With someone I’ve liked for ages! Hahahaha!
She didn’t wait for replies before adding another line.
“As for whether he’s ‘good,’ I’ll let you know after I’ve tried.”
Refreshing the thread, she saw the replies flood in almost instantly.
User 1: “Congrats, OP, on bagging a boyfriend!”
User 2: “This reminds me of what Elite Vision Entertainment’s official Weibo posted today. Wise words!”
User 3: “Just go for it already! If there’s someone you want to sleep with, do it! Life is short—seize the moment and make it harmonious!”
Tang Xin. “…”
The chime of the café doorbell caught her attention. The glass door swung open.
Tang Xin instinctively looked up. A tall, handsome man dressed in a white shirt and black pants walked into the café, instantly drawing the attention of the late-night customers. His steps were deliberate, and he made his way straight to her. With a small smile, he reached out to pinch her cheek. “So tired you’ve gone silly?”
She blinked at him, shoving her phone into her bag and shaking her head. “Do you want something to drink?”
Tang Yu grabbed her hand and gently pulled her up. “No, it’s late. Let’s go.”
Tang Xin picked up her bag, mumbling, “Oh, but I haven’t paid yet.”
Tang Yu fished out his wallet and went to settle the bill.
Twenty-three yuan.
Once outside, Tang Yu opened the passenger door of his car and ushered her in.
Tang Xin thought about how her apartment building was only a few hundred meters away. Since there wasn’t much distance—and no cameras along the way—she didn’t bother putting on her seatbelt.
With a soft click, Tang Yu leaned over and buckled it for her.
She turned her head, her brow furrowing slightly. “We’re just going a short distance. Do I really need it?”
Tang Yu’s eyes glinted mischievously as he leaned in closer. “Who said I was taking you home?”
Tang Xin froze. A strange warmth tingled down her spine. “Then… where are we going?”
“To my place.”
Tang Yu started the engine, pulling away from the café with practiced ease.
Tang Xin twisted in her seat, her nerves betraying her as her voice pitched higher. “Your place?!”
Glancing at her briefly, Tang Yu’s tone remained casual. “Too far for you?” He drummed his fingers lightly on the steering wheel, feigning contemplation. “You’re right. That’s a bit much. Let’s just stay at your place tonight.”
Stay where?
Her thoughts jumbled, and her chest tightened as panic threatened to bubble over. “Tang Yu… what are you planning to do?” she asked, her voice edged with uncertainty. “We only officially got together today!”
Was he really suggesting that? So soon?
Tang Yu maneuvered the car smoothly into her apartment complex. The slow pace gave him plenty of time to glance at her and say calmly, “Didn’t you say it yourself? Should I repeat it back to you?”
Tang Xin blinked, her wine-fuzzed brain struggling to keep up. “What did I say?”
“The speech you posted on Weibo earlier,” he reminded her, his voice low and raspy.
Before she could protest, he recited it, word for word:
“From now on, let’s cherish life and make the most of our time! In the face of life and time, everything else is a luxury.
If you want to eat something, go eat it. If there’s a movie you haven’t seen, watch it. If there’s a place you’ve dreamed of visiting, go—just ensure your safety. Most importantly, if there’s someone you love, confess now! If you’re in a relationship, treasure it. If you’ve fought, make up! And if you can’t, move on and find your next spring. If you’re single, find someone to love. If there’s someone you’ve fantasized about, sleep with them! If you’re in love, get married. And if you haven’t had kids, start making them—life’s greatest harmony! Best wishes to all!”
Tang Yu’s deep, languid voice delivered the speech with precise enunciation, the playful emphasis making her cringe as he parked the car outside her building.
He turned to her, his brow quirking slightly as his lips curled into a teasing smile. “Feisty Queen, you said it yourself. Don’t chicken out now.”
Tang Xin, “…”
At that moment, she finally understood the phrase digging your own grave.
Her silence only seemed to amuse Tang Yu further. He reached over to unbuckle her seatbelt, his fingers grazing her cheek as he gave it a light tap. “Let me crash at your place tonight, okay?”
Her pulse quickened, the tips of her ears heating. How could she refuse?
Tang Yu’s grin widened. “To be honest, I’ve been wanting to sleep with you for a long time. Let’s make it happen tonight.”
Tang Xin, “…”
Feisty Queen never backs down from a challenge!
She abruptly straightened, her cheeks flushed as she declared boldly, “To be honest, I’ve been wanting to sleep with you for a long time too.”
Her words startled Tang Yu. His smirk melted into something darker as he leaned forward, capturing her lips in a fierce kiss. His tongue slipped between her lips, coaxing and exploring, leaving her breathless.
Tang Xin’s whole body softened under his touch. She couldn’t deny it—Tang Yu’s kissing skills were dangerously good. Had he practiced on other women before? Probably.
But right now, it didn’t matter.
She closed her eyes, surrendering to the moment. At least his technique is good… maybe it won’t hurt as much later, she thought, her mind beginning to spiral.
Tang Yu moved his kisses to her neck, his hands wandering down her sides and brushing against her chest. Tang Xin shivered, gasping as her eyes fluttered open. “Tang Yu… this is the parking lot.”
Doing this in the car? Wouldn’t that kill her out of sheer embarrassment?
