The following day, Tang Xin departed for Goliath with the production team. This was her first time working on a military-themed screenplay, something she wouldn’t have had the chance to do without Ming Zhu’s recommendation. Normally, Tang Xin stuck to urban dramas.

It was also her first time participating in an overseas shoot, let alone for a military film.

The conditions were tough. The first week wasn’t too bad, but Director Jiang warned that things would get progressively more challenging. Even so, Tang Xin already felt exhausted by the end of the first week. Despite the fatigue, she found the experience worthwhile—it was likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

As the one-week mark approached, Tang Yu called her. Tang Xin had just showered and was lying on the bed, utterly drained. She answered the phone weakly. “Mr. Tang, what is it?”

Tang Yu stayed silent for a few seconds before letting out a soft chuckle. “Tang Xin, have you forgotten something?”

Tang Xin’s foggy brain struggled to catch up. “What?”

“One week,” he reminded her.

Suddenly realizing what he meant, Tang Xin let out a dismissive hum. “I’m not coming back.”

Meanwhile, in his office, Tang Yu walked in with Assistant Gao trailing behind, thoughtfully closing the door. Assistant Gao silently mused, So it’s true? Mr. Tang is really dating Ms. Tang now?

Rumors had been flying around the company lately, claiming that after failing to win over Ming Zhu, Tang Yu had shifted his attention to Tang Xin. Assistant Gao hesitated, debating whether he should mention this to Tang Yu.

Tang Yu sat at his desk, speaking with an air of nonchalance. “I’ll book your ticket for tomorrow.”

Tang Xin shot upright, practically exploding. “What gives you the right to book my ticket? You think I’ll come back just because you tell me to? I’m not coming back!”

Leaning lazily in his chair, Tang Yu replied with deliberate calmness, “I’m your boyfriend. Didn’t you say you wanted to be my girlfriend? We’ve kissed and hugged—I’ve agreed.”

“Forget it! That was ages ago when I said that. You only agreed now? What kind of response is that?!” Tang Xin snapped.

Still fuming, she hung up on him.

Tang Yu stared at his phone in disbelief. He hadn’t expected her to get so worked up. On the surface, she always seemed mild and easygoing, but apparently, she could be quite fiery.

A smile tugged at his lips as he opened WeChat and began sending her red envelopes.

Tang Xin’s phone chimed incessantly. When she finally checked it, she saw countless red envelopes from Tang Yu.

[Wishing you prosperity and success! 🧧]
[Wishing you prosperity and success! 🧧]
[Wishing you prosperity and success! 🧧]

And they kept coming.

Tang Xin, “…”

Trying to buy my heart with money?

Muttering under her breath, she begrudgingly began accepting them.

Seeing her collect the envelopes, Tang Yu chuckled and sent even more.

Assistant Gao entered Tang Yu’s office to deliver some documents, placing a cup of coffee on the desk as well. “Mr. Tang, these need your signature.”

Tang Yu glanced briefly at the papers. “Leave them here.”

As Assistant Gao discreetly peeked at Tang Yu’s phone, he caught a glimpse of his boss’s lightning-fast fingers sending more red envelopes. He even spotted the nickname attached to them: Rich Girl.

Mr. Tang is sending red envelopes to his Rich Girl?

Suppressing his curiosity, Assistant Gao cleared his throat. “Two of these are urgent, Mr. Tang. Would you like to look at them now?”

Tang Yu grabbed the documents, continuing to send red envelopes with one hand while signing with the other. “Done.”

Assistant Gao collected the signed papers and left, casting a final glance as Tang Yu resumed his red-envelope marathon.

Back in Goliath, Tang Xin’s fingers were sore from collecting so many red envelopes. Ming Zhu, fresh out of the shower, saw Tang Xin rapidly tapping her phone. Thinking she was playing a game, Ming Zhu didn’t interrupt and went to work on the storyboard script.

Halfway through, Tang Xin paused to type a message. “Mr. Tang, are you just throwing money around today?”

Tang Yu replied, “Sending red envelopes to my girlfriend so she won’t keep posting about being broke on social media.”

Tang Xin, “…”

Shameless. Who agreed to be your girlfriend?!

Counting the envelopes, she realized there were 99 in total, adding up to nearly 20,000 yuan. If things didn’t work out between them, she decided she’d return the money just so he could feel the pain of collecting them one by one.

If he really wanted to win her over, he’d need to hand her a black card for it to count as a sincere gesture.

During her time in Goliath, Tang Yu called frequently, often pressuring her to return to Beicheng. Once, he even asked Director Jiang to talk to her, implying the production no longer needed her.

Tang Xin refused to budge.

When Tang Yu called to ask why she wouldn’t return, Tang Xin replied, “I don’t want to leave Ming Zhu here alone. I’d worry about her.”

Tang Yu fell silent before asking, “Is that the only reason? Or do you just not want to see me?”

If she said yes, he’d be on the next flight to Goliath to drag her back himself.

Sitting on her bed, Tang Xin swung her legs and laughed softly. For once, she answered seriously, “I just want to stay with the crew. It’s my first time working on a foreign military film. It feels special—prestigious, even. Who knows if I’ll ever have another chance like this? I want to make the most of it. Is that okay? Mr. Tang, how about giving me a two- or three-month vacation?”

Their calls usually happened in the evening, after Tang Xin returned to the hotel. For Tang Yu, it was prime office hours back in Beicheng. Reclining lazily in his chair, he asked, “Are you sure you’re not just trying to avoid me?”

Tang Xin chuckled. “Mr. Tang.”

“Hmm?” His voice dropped an octave.

“Your ego is massive.”

Tang Yu, “…”

Letting out a cold snort, he tried to continue, but Tang Xin quickly ended the call. “That’s all for now. There’s still over a month left until filming wraps up. Bye!”

Tang Yu stared at his phone, clicking his tongue in annoyance. This habit of abruptly hanging up has to go.

After that, Tang Yu stopped pressuring her to return. Instead, their WeChat exchanges grew more frequent, with Tang Yu initiating most conversations by sending red envelopes. Tang Xin would accept the money and then chat with him.

This unconventional dynamic didn’t bother either of them. Although Tang Yu had initially intended to “correct” her views on love, he eventually gave up.

If it makes her happy, so be it.

As the shoot neared its end, Tang Yu wrapped up his work ahead of schedule and made an unannounced visit to Goliath.

That night, the crew worked late into the evening.

Tang Yu waited in the hotel lobby for two hours before they returned.

When Tang Xin entered the lobby and saw him, she froze, staring at him in disbelief. Am I hallucinating?

Tang Yu stood there, hands in his pockets, his expression calm but watchful.

Director Jiang noticed him and said in surprise, “Mr. Tang! We didn’t know you’d be visiting.”

Tang Yu smiled politely. “I had some time, so I decided to stop by. I’ll only be staying a couple of days.”

“Have you eaten yet?” Director Jiang asked.

Tang Yu glanced at Tang Xin. “Not yet. Tang Xin, where can I grab something to eat?”

Suddenly put on the spot, Tang Xin stammered, “Why are you asking me?”

Everyone turned to look at her, clearly puzzled by her tone. Realizing she might have been too abrupt, Tang Xin quickly adjusted her expression and said with a bright smile, “What would you like to eat?”

Tang Yu replied coolly, “You can take me there.”

Tang Xin glanced at Ming Zhu, who smiled reassuringly. “Go ahead. I’ll stay back and work on the storyboard.”

Tang Xin sighed and reluctantly agreed.“Fine.”
