Yun Heng hadn’t slept a wink all night. By the next morning, when he finally awoke, the dark bruises beneath his eyes were severe, making Chang’an jump in shock upon entering.

“Master… you, you are alright, right?”

The young master usually kept a perfectly regular schedule—sleeping soundly through the night, rising with the dawn. Yet here he sat so early, staring blankly ahead, as if some demon had stolen his soul.

Yun Heng lifted his deep, clear eyes to look at him. “Bring me the Qingxin Pills and Jingxin Pills.”

Chang’an blinked in confusion. What was he raving about so early in the morning?

A thousand questions swirled in his mind, but he obediently retrieved the Qingxin and Jingxin Pills, preparing a cup of warm water for Yun Heng to take.

After swallowing the pills, Yun Heng said not a word. He rose, dressed, and retrieved two small jars from the pharmacy. In Chang’an’s stunned gaze, he emptied one jar of Qingxin Pills and one of Jingxin Pills without hesitation.

Chang’an wanted to ask, Master, what are you doing? but dared not.

Something about Yun Heng seemed… off, as though possessed. Better not get too close—he might mistake Chang’an for another dose of Qingxin and Jingxin Pills.

Yun Heng then opened a secret compartment, taking out a tiny vial and setting it aside. Next, he picked up a brush and began writing on paper.

Chang’an watched, dumbfounded, as his master’s actions didn’t pause for a single moment. He wondered what was in the vial and why Yun Heng wouldn’t take it until after writing two full pages.

Finally, after swallowing the contents, Yun Heng clutched his head in pain and suddenly collapsed.

“Master!”

Chang’an, ignorant of pharmacology, struggled to lift him onto the bed before rushing to fetch Zhang Shu.

“Zhang Shu, what’s wrong with the master?”

Zhang Shu pursed his lips, glanced at the paper Chang’an had mentioned, and after examining it carefully, understood.

“The master is fine. He’s been poisoned—but not lethally. It’s a toxin that induces an absolute sense of bliss.”

Chang’an: “………”

It sounded like normal words, yet he still couldn’t comprehend them.

“Don’t worry. The master merely took a memory-erasing poison. It only wipes events and people seen within the past few months. He has already written down half of the important information. Once he wakes, just show him these two pages.”

Chang’an was skeptical. Half of the important information?

He picked up the two sheets of paper and glanced at them. Yun Heng had recorded that the young lady had secretly left the Medicine Master Valley and the antidote recipe for the newly developed Twin Gu…

He wrote a lot, yet curiously, there was no mention of the lady from the Shangshu Mansion.

Chang’an scratched his head in confusion.

Qiao Wanyan didn’t dare wander anymore. The Medicine Master Valley was riddled with labyrinths; without a guide, she could easily get lost again like the previous day.

Being found would be fortunate. Left alone in this freezing weather, she might freeze to death.

Besides, she hadn’t encountered a single person along the way yesterday. Judging by this, the Valley likely didn’t have many residents. It was better not to take risks.

Breakfast and lunch were both delivered by Chang’an, laid out neatly on the table. Just as he was about to leave, Qiao Wanyan called out to him.

“Is… is there something you need?” Chang’an stammered, barely daring to meet her eyes.

Qiao Wanyan’s tone was gentle, frail, and utterly harmless. Even without considering her breathtaking beauty, her soft voice and innocent expression made it impossible not to let one’s guard down.

“I’ve been here for several days, and it’s truly been dull… could you take me out for a walk?”

Chang’an’s mind told him to refuse—after all, the master disliked strangers wandering the Medicine Master Valley. But his mouth answered before his brain, replying automatically, “All right.”

Qiao Wanyan’s face lit up in a dazzling smile, and in that instant, the entire room seemed to brighten. Chang’an’s face flushed violently. He averted his gaze awkwardly and stammered, “I-I’ll take you for a walk.”

Lacking any sense of romance, Chang’an had no idea where would delight a lady. So he led Qiao Wanyan to the pharmacy he frequented most.

The master had recently woken and was resting in Tingyu Pavilion reading his medical texts. By routine, he wouldn’t come here anytime soon. The young lady could explore the pharmacy for a while without incident.

The pharmacy wasn’t small, with the courtyard filled with all manner of rare herbs drying in the sun.

Even from a distance, the potent scent of herbs mixed with the crisp air, leaving one inexplicably calm and at ease.

Qiao Wanyan’s eyes immediately caught a casually stacked bundle of butterfly grass.

“Isn’t this butterfly grass?” Her voice rose slightly—she could hardly contain her disbelief. The people of the Medicine Master Valley were utterly squandering treasures.

She couldn’t buy this in the capital. Her merchant grandfather had stumbled upon some and paid a fortune—thousands of gold coins—for just a few grams.

No wonder it fetched such a high price. Its rarity aside, the effects were remarkable. She had once ground some into powder, mixing it into her cosmetic paste, and applied it daily, leaving her skin delicate, smooth, and radiant.

At that time, she had gone out daily to tea and shopping with noble ladies of the capital. When complimented on her flawless skin, she pretended modesty, saying she was simply born this way, never needing makeup. Hearing others praise her natural beauty brought her a quiet joy that no wealth could buy.

And now… here, in the Medicine Master Valley, it was treated like nothing more than a weed, tossed casually aside. Her heart ached.

Chang’an, unconcerned, said, “Oh, yes. This herb isn’t all that useful—just a bit for smoothing skin. Zhang Shu uses it for Madam Zhang’s cosmetic powder. Otherwise, the master would have thrown it away thinking it takes up space.”

Qiao Wanyan: These damn people… how could they treat my treasure so lightly?

“Ah, so this is the young lady from the capital’s noble family? Truly beautiful—like a fairy!”

A middle-aged woman approached, marveling at Qiao Wanyan. “How can anyone grow up to look like this? Look at those big eyes, small nose, tiny mouth, delicate face—it’s simply enchanting!”

Qiao Wanyan nodded slightly. “You flatter me, sister.”

The woman blinked in surprise, then burst into laughter, laughing until tears almost came.

“Oh, Chang’an, did you hear what this young lady just called me? She called me ‘sister’—hahaha!”

Qiao Wanyan silently stepped back. What kind of place is this?!

The woman chuckled, holding some items, and walked away. Her figure soon disappeared, but her laughter echoed as if carried to the sky.
