Chapter 67: Beastman World (12)
The Hunting Team’s early return was a major event.
Normally, the Hunting Team would return before nightfall each day. An early return invariably meant something serious had occurred. Just when one crisis settles, another erupts, Qi Yuan thought.
Qi Yuan rushed over with the others. The distance was short; they arrived within minutes.
He was covered in dust and looked rather disheveled, but he couldn’t worry about appearances now. Just when one crisis settles, another erupts.
The sharp-eyed Beastmen on the Hunting Team immediately knew something was wrong.
You Qinghe’s gaze locked onto Qi Yuan the moment he arrived, a flicker of concern crossing his face. Could it be… has the trouble already reached the Tribe?
Jiang Wang, the Tribe’s leader, stood surrounded, his body stained with blood, clearly injured—especially his arm, where the torn muscle gaped open, blood dripping steadily. His lips were pale, yet his expression remained calm.
The Shaman, You Yuanxiu, was absent, apparently out gathering rare medicinal herbs that required an overnight trip.
Apart from the Shaman, the Tribe’s only healers were apprentices, utterly incapable of treating such severe lacerations.
But could they just stand by and watch the Chieftain bleed to death?
They couldn’t bear to do that, yet they had no solution.
Amidst the chaos, Xu Fu, who had been hesitating at the back of the crowd, nudged Qi Yuan. Leaning close, he whispered, “I have a small surgical kit, and I remember you had a medical kit in your bag. Should we try treating the Chieftain?”
“The Chieftain’s a good man, and strong too. It’d be a real shame if he died like this.”
Qi Yuan pondered briefly, then nodded. If Jiang Wang is a key figure in this Dreamscape, then if we botch the treatment and he dies, the scenario will likely reset.
We may only have rudimentary medical knowledge, lacking proper training, but if we keep trying, perhaps one time Jiang Wang will survive.
With this thought in mind, Qi Yuan agreed.
“We can try. First, have them carry Jiang Wang back to our cave. We’ll disinfect the wound and then stitch it up.”
“Beastmen have strong constitutions. The wound might still be healing, and the infection hasn’t set in yet.”
Upon receiving approval, Xu Fu immediately pushed through the crowd, ordering the Hunting Team to carry the Chieftain to his cave, assuring them that he and Qi Yuan had a way to save him.
The Hunting Team regarded him with suspicion.
All eyes turned to the Chieftain, who remained conscious.
Jiang Wang didn’t trust Xu Fu, but when he heard Qi Yuan’s name mentioned, he decided to take a gamble.
“Alright,” he agreed.
Thus, the group marched to Xu Fu’s cave in a grand procession. The Hunting Team had just carried the Chieftain inside when Xu Fu promptly drove them out.
While Qi Yuan and Xu Fu couldn’t create a completely sterile environment, they could at least minimize traffic and maintain a low-germ environment.
The two men retrieved a small surgical kit and a medical box, exchanging uneasy glances before hesitating.
“Your turn, or mine?” Qi Yuan asked.
Xu Fu shook his head and waved his hands frantically. “You handle it. I can’t sew to save my life. I can assist, but stitching’s beyond me.”
Qi Yuan: “………”
As if I can do any better!
Seeing Xu Fu’s desperate aversion, Qi Yuan had no choice. He gritted his teeth and decided to go all in.
He washed his hands thoroughly, then scrubbed them again with alcohol. Donning gloves, he began disinfecting Jiang Wang’s arm before starting the stitches.
To be honest, Qi Yuan had remarkable composure. His hands trembled slightly at first, but after a couple of minutes, the tremors subsided completely.
After sewing the final stitch and disinfecting the area one final time, Qi Yuan removed his gloves and began washing his hands.
Jiang Wang, the one being stitched up, remained utterly still and silent, save for the sweat beading on his forehead.
Xu Fu, watching from the side, trembled inwardly. Though he wasn’t the one being stitched, he could vividly imagine the excruciating pain of being sewn without anesthesia.
This Chieftain is truly a ruthless man, Xu Fu thought. I couldn’t handle it. I’d probably die from the pain if it were me.
He ordered someone to bring hot water.
Qi Yuan pulled a washcloth from his bag, dampened it, and began wiping Jiang Wang’s face. He also gave the rest of Jiang Wang’s upper body a quick wipe, careful to avoid the newly stitched wound.
Since the stitches were fresh, they decided to let Jiang Wang rest there to avoid any movement that might tear the wound open. They would wait a few days to assess the healing progress before considering moving him.
Both men were drenched in sweat, their hair plastered to their faces.
With plenty of hot water available, they exchanged a knowing glance and instinctively mixed in cold water for a refreshing bath. Refreshed and invigorated, they toweled their hair dry.
Jiang Wang was lying on Qi Yuan’s bed.
After a moment’s thought, Qi Yuan decided to sleep with Xu Fu. His own bed was occupied, and they needed to keep a close eye on Jiang Wang throughout the night to watch for signs of infection or fever. They couldn’t afford to be too far away.
Sharing a bed with a patient was something Qi Yuan had never imagined.
Since returning from the Hunting Team, they had been frantically busy, still unclear why Jiang Wang was injured and why the team had rushed back so abruptly.
Seeing that Jiang Wang was still awake, Qi Yuan sat by the bedside, draped a towel over his head, and asked with genuine curiosity, “Jiang Wang, how did you get hurt?”
Jiang Wang hesitated for a few seconds before lifting his gaze to meet Qi Yuan’s. He looked weak, but even at his weakest, he answered Qi Yuan’s question.
“An ambush… I couldn’t evade it.”
“Too many Rogue Beastmen.”
“The area outside the Tribe isn’t safe lately… don’t go out.”
His words came out strained, each syllable forced from his throat. Hearing this, Qi Yuan quickly pressed a hand over Jiang Wang’s mouth.
I’d rather not accidentally kill him with my questions than have him die from my treatment.
“Don’t speak anymore. I understand now.”
Jiang Wang nodded obediently and fell silent.
Seeing how exhausted Jiang Wang looked, Qi Yuan gently covered his eyes with his other hand and whispered, “Sleep now. You’re safe here. You need to rest properly.”
He could feel Jiang Wang’s eyelashes brush against his palm, tickling slightly, but it was tolerable. After a few minutes, he finally withdrew his hand.
Jiang Wang fell asleep quickly, his breathing becoming steady, his eyes closed. Qi Yuan’s intuition had been right: Jiang Wang was utterly exhausted but had been forcing himself to stay awake.
Qi Yuan lowered his head, drawing closer to Jiang Wang, and noticed his eyelashes were indeed quite long. No wonder they had brushed against his palm.
He quickly straightened up, feeling a bit perverted. How could I be staring at a man’s eyelashes from this close?
Rising to his feet, he shook his head and prepared to leave.
Unbeknownst to Qi Yuan, behind him, Jiang Wang, who had feigned sleep, reopened his eyes. His beastly gaze burned with predatory hunger, his eyes gleaming with the feral greed of a hunter stalking its prey.
Jiang Wang nearly lost control. His reason hung by a thread, while restraint—his true nature—forced him to close his eyes again, plunging himself back into a forced slumber.
Prime-aged male Beastmen possessed extraordinary recuperative abilities, and Jiang Wang, a Top Tier warrior, surpassed even these exceptional healing capabilities.
In just one day, Jiang Wang had recovered enough to get out of bed and move freely. The wound on his arm had completely healed, scabbed over, and looked as if the scab would fall off by the following night.
Qi Yuan and Xu Fu were astonished.
Xu Fu, in particular, though aware of Beastmen’s regenerative capabilities, was utterly stunned by this level of recovery.
Qi Yuan, though momentarily surprised, quickly remembered this was the Dreamscape, where anything was possible, and shrugged off his amazement.
