Chapter 89

The room fell silent, save for Yi Shanshan’s voice.

Even the sweltering summer night was still, all clamor subdued. Within the familiar, safe confines, it seemed all hidden desires could be indulged.

Ying Yuan’s heart pounded like a drum as she lowered her gaze to Yi Shanshan, lying on her bed, kicking her feet coquettishly, waiting for a kiss. Every subtle movement seemed to declare her affection; every blink of her lashes felt like a deliberate seduction.

Ying Yuan swallowed hard, meeting Yi Shanshan’s eyes. “Do you really want to do it again?” she asked.

“Why would I lie about that?” Yi Shanshan retorted, her brow furrowing in confusion. She tossed aside the corner of Ying Yuan’s robe and turned her head away, feigning anger. “You know I’m not one to give up easily. If you won’t try it with me, I’ll just find someone else…”

“No.”

Ying Yuan cut her off before she could finish the sentence.

In that instant, her urgency was palpable, her composure shattered by a single name: Yi Shanshan.

Ying Yuan knew that Yi Shanshan, with her headstrong nature, would do exactly what she said.

“Absolutely not,” Ying Yuan repeated, her chest tightening with rising anger. The mere thought of Yi Shanshan speaking to someone else in her current state was unbearable.

Yi Shanshan puffed out her cheeks. “You keep saying ‘no’ and ‘you can’t.’ What am I supposed to do then?”

Ying Yuan found her naivety both exasperating and endearing.

So cunning, yet so utterly innocent.

Did she truly believe that experimenting with kissing someone would only lead to kisses? Didn’t she realize she was like a gem that could lure out a fearsome dragon?

Perhaps she genuinely doesn’t know.

Ying Yuan clenched her fingers.

She had never been in love, had remained emotionally detached despite being at the center of crowds, and today marked her first kiss. She didn’t truly understand the nature of desire.

But Ying Yuan knew.

She realized it was time to make Yi Shanshan understand.

Only by understanding would she fear. And only by fearing would she refrain from such absurd and dangerous experiments.

Yi Shanshan continued to grumble angrily. Ying Yuan walked to the desk, turned off the lamp, returned to the bed, and then reached up to switch off the room’s main light.

Brightness plunged into darkness, leaving only the faint glow from the living room, a distant beacon in the night.

Yi Shanshan’s rant froze mid-sentence. She turned back to look at Ying Yuan, now just a blurry silhouette.

Before she could ask why the light had been turned off, the silhouette swooped down, closing the distance between them in an instant.

Their breaths mingled, and this dark form carried the familiar warmth and scent she knew so well.

Her lips parted slightly to speak, but Ying Yuan’s lips had already descended, plunging straight in without hesitation.

Her teeth were forced open, her tongue entwined. The suddenness and intensity of the kiss sent Yi Shanshan’s heart racing.

Ying Yuan seemed transformed, no longer that lukewarm water.

She had been brought to a boil, overflowing. Her palms cradled Yi Shanshan’s face, not to comfort her, but to control her.

To hold her at the perfect angle, to make her yield to the kiss.

Ying Yuan continued to plunder deeper, forcing Yi Shanshan’s mouth wide open before withdrawing to nip at her lips.

The friction, the sucking, the wet, splashing sounds filling the air—it was like an overflowing tide of lustful excitement.

Yi Shanshan couldn’t help but moan softly, her body utterly relaxed in this position. This fervent attention made her feel utterly adored, as if Ying Yuan were a ravenous beast devouring a delicacy, desperate to swallow her whole and never have enough.

Yi Shanshan reveled in the sensation, her body melting into pliant water.

Her feverish heat soared, yet she craved more. Ying Yuan, pressed against her, still left a sliver of space between them. Yi Shanshan longed to eliminate that distance, to feel her weight completely.

She reached out, grasped Ying Yuan’s clothes, and pulled her closer.

The kiss paused for a heartbeat, only to return with even greater ferocity, and Yi Shanshan’s wish was granted.

Ying Yuan sank down, their bodies collapsing into a seamless embrace. Their chests pressed together, their abdomens flush against each other, Ying Yuan’s legs pinning hers.

The already tense spot throbbed painfully at the touch, making Yi Shanshan gasp. Ying Yuan’s lips and tongue completely swallowed her breath.

“Ying Yuan…” she managed to whisper, her voice soft and hoarse, as if filled with unspoken words.

Ying Yuan’s desire surged like a tidal wave, her mind flooding with forbidden acts she yearned to commit against Yi Shanshan. In a fleeting daze, she almost imagined her lips and hands had already done so.

Yet she restrained herself, as if a sword hung above her head, reminding her not to forget her purpose.

Ying Yuan withdrew her lips and tongue, propping herself up slightly. In the dimness, she gazed at Yi Shanshan, seeing the curve of her lips like tender, blossoming petals.

“What’s wrong?” Ying Yuan asked, her voice low and strained, as if forced from her chest.

She waited for Yi Shanshan to respond, to say “No more,” to push her away, to tell her this made her uncomfortable.

Silence hung heavy in the air, broken only by their ragged breaths.

But Yi Shanshan didn’t say a single word of what Ying Yuan wanted to hear.

Yi Shanshan took two deep breaths, swallowed, and deftly slipped her hand under the loose hem of Ying Yuan’s short-sleeved shirt, wrapping it around her waist.

Her palm pressed tightly against Ying Yuan’s bare skin, fingertips still exploring.

Ying Yuan was wearing only loungewear, with nothing beneath. This stark, naked contact sent a jolt of electricity through her body, her heart nearly stopping.

“Ying Yuan,” Yi Shanshan finally managed to articulate her desire, her voice trembling, “More… please, more… Do more…”

Fireworks seemed to explode in Ying Yuan’s mind, shattering all her carefully laid plans.

She stared in disbelief at the person in her arms, desperately seeking confirmation: “Do… what?”

“Anything.” Yi Shanshan tightened her grip on Ying Yuan’s waist, pulling her closer, her breath warm and damp against Ying Yuan’s ear. “For example… kiss me somewhere else…”

Ying Yuan received the answer she couldn’t refute.

Numbness washed over her, the numbness of one whose world had just been utterly destroyed.

She couldn’t convince herself that Yi Shanshan, even like this, was still straight.

How had she been so presumptuous as to label her, certain she felt no such impulses toward girls?

In reality, she felt them intensely.

She had never disliked Ying Yuan’s body. She loved hugging her, cherished the feel of their skin against each other, and could sleep all night draped over her. She longed to share a bed with Ying Yuan every day, her heart lifting at her scent.

Was this merely pathological? Could pathology and physiology be so neatly separated?

“Shanshan,” Ying Yuan said, abruptly sitting up. “I can’t do this anymore.”

The warm body withdrew, leaving Yi Shanshan deeply dissatisfied. Her eyes glistened with tears of complaint. “What’s wrong now?”

“Even though our society has become quite open-minded,” Ying Yuan said, “most families and elders still can’t accept homosexuality.”

“Huh?” Yi Shanshan responded, confused.

“Many people, even if they know their own sexuality, ultimately conform to the paths laid out for them by societal pressure.”

“You’re really pouring gasoline on the fire, aren’t you? It’s like dumping a bucket of ice water on Yi Shanshan.”

Yi Shanshan’s brow furrowed, her tone tightening: “That’s just them being cowards.”

“No,” Ying Yuan countered. “The gravity of reality is too strong. Besides…”

She paused, looking at Yi Shanshan, reluctant to be so cruel, yet knowing she had to be: “You are Yi Shanshan.”

“Your family background is so complicated, your life’s burdens so heavy. You’ve said yourself that you’ll ultimately be driven by profit to enter a political marriage.”

Ying Yuan lowered her gaze, unable to meet Yi Shanshan’s eyes. “And… you might also be bisexual or pansexual. You can’t let what happened today easily change the course of your life, you…”

“So I’m trying,” Yi Shanshan interrupted, lying there with her long hair disheveled, her eyes hardening like diamonds. “I’m trying, Ying Yuan.”

“The path I walked before was because, generally speaking, it was what was best for me.”

“Now I’m walking a new path because it has appeared before me, and I like it. I have to try it.”

“As for what path I’ll take in the future, I can’t tell you right now, because I haven’t set foot on it yet.”

“Life is long, Ying Yuan, and things change quickly.”

“A year ago, I never would have imagined I’d be lying in someone’s bed, begging her to kiss me.”

Ying Yuan froze.

Yi Shanshan: “I don’t make promises lightly. But when something is worth making a promise for, I’ll keep my word.”

Ying Yuan’s mind wandered. Yi Shanshan exhaled deeply, reaching out to grasp a corner of Ying Yuan’s shirt, twirling it between her fingers.

The coldness in her eyes softened as she said, “I really do love doing this with you. If you don’t believe me, you can feel for yourself.”

Ying Yuan blinked, confused. “What?”

Yi Shanshan looked at her and smiled. Still gripping her shirt, she sat up, meeting Ying Yuan’s gaze. Then, she took Ying Yuan’s fingertip and guided it toward her own body.

At the waistband of Yi Shanshan’s jeans, just above her taut abdomen, a gap opened easily for Ying Yuan’s hand to slip inside.

“Feel if I’m…” Yi Shanshan said, biting her lip, a blush rising on her cheeks.

I want you.

She mouthed the three words silently, her lips moving slightly, the tip of her tongue flicking briefly between her pearly teeth.

Ying Yuan understood instantly. Her heart clenched, the fragile rationality she had fought so hard to regain wavering once more.

Logically, Yi Shanshan was rational.

Emotionally, Yi Shanshan was maddening.

Whatever Yi Shanshan did, it couldn’t be wrong. Her most captivating quality lay in her clear, intense subjectivity—a sense of self entirely dictated by her own feelings.

She allowed pain and pleasure to wash over her, daring to confront all love and hate.

Beside her, Ying Yuan felt like a coward.

Her fingertips brushed against soft skin. Ying Yuan flinched back. “I have my own rules too,” she murmured.

Yi Shanshan didn’t release her hand, but she didn’t press forward either. She paused, saying, “Mm-hmm. Tell me.”

Ying Yuan: “I don’t have sex without a clearly defined romantic relationship first.”

“I told you I wanted to talk,” Yi Shanshan said.

“I don’t date anyone unless I’m certain of their orientation and feelings for me,” Ying Yuan replied.

“You can confirm that right now,” Yi Shanshan said.

Ying Yuan’s face flushed crimson. “You just said yourself things change so quickly. You’re already moving so fast—and now even faster. I can’t be sure. I need time to prove it.”

“Got it,” Yi Shanshan said, releasing her hand. “You want me to chase you.”

Ying Yuan: “????”

What kind of logic is that? What kind of bizarre interpretation is this?

“No, I didn’t say that!” Ying Yuan protested. “I just meant…”

Yi Shanshan shook her head. “La la la, I can’t hear you! You totally want me to chase you.”

Ying Yuan fell silent.

Yi Shanshan cupped Ying Yuan’s face, gazing at her in the darkness with a sweet smile. “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’ll chase you~”

Ying Yuan’s heart pounded.

Yi Shanshan pouted. “But what do we do now?”

Ying Yuan stared blankly. “Huh?”

Yi Shanshan’s gaze dropped, settling on her own body. “I feel… so unsatisfied…”

Ying Yuan’s throat went dry. “Take a shower,” she managed to say.
