Chapter 62

No one dared stop Yi Shanshan.

Or rather, no one dared to stop her.

The owners of the damaged vehicles stared in stunned silence as Yi Shanshan approached, not moving forward but retreating instead.

They knew Yi Shanshan could afford to pay for the damage. And they knew her knife was perfectly capable of piercing their flesh.

And if she did, she could afford to compensate them for that too.

Only Ying Yuan approached Yi Shanshan.

She followed her, watching her intently, her gaze filled with heartache.

Ying Yuan had used that knife herself, taking it from Yi Shanshan’s bedside table to cut fruit. It was razor-sharp.

She couldn’t risk trying to stop her outright, fearing that the angle of the blade might shift and cut Yi Shanshan herself.

Instead, she stayed by her side, speaking softly:

“Shanshan, puncturing tires can be dangerous. Be careful with the blade—tires can explode.”

“The sidewalls are thinner; they’ll be easier to pierce.”

“Yes, right there. But still avoid the seam.”

“Mm, this one’s theirs too. It looks expensive. You…”

Yi Shanshan’s knife plunged down without hesitation.

Ying Yuan swallowed the rest of her sentence: “…you shouldn’t tire yourself out.”

Yi Shanshan glanced up at her.

Ying Yuan was like a tranquil lake. Faced with Yi Shanshan’s frenzied state, she showed no fear, no disgust, not even the shock of seeing something unnatural.

As she spoke, her eyes overflowed with tender concern, as if Yi Shanshan were the only thing that mattered.

Only Yi Shanshan—was she tired? Hungry? Cold? Happy?

Yi Shanshan’s nose stung with tears. She parted her lips slightly and realized she could breathe again.

A wisp of fresh air, emanating from Ying Yuan, carried a familiar, comforting scent that enveloped her like water, gently cradling and supporting her.

Yi Shanshan walked toward another tire and tried to speak to Ying Yuan, who was still following closely behind.

“If it’s dangerous, don’t get so close.”

Her voice was hoarse and strained, but at least it sounded like a normal person saying a normal thing.

Ying Yuan was delighted that Yi Shanshan was willing to communicate with her. She immediately replied:

“Precisely because it’s dangerous, I need to be closer.”

“You said I can heal remotely. I’m trying to maximize the medicine’s effectiveness.”

“But do whatever you want. I think they’re pretty annoying too.”

Yi Shanshan suddenly chuckled. “All talk, no action,” she said.

“Huh?” Ying Yuan tilted her head, puzzled.

Yi Shanshan paused her tire-slashing, glanced around, and suddenly pointed to a large boulder used as a parking barrier nearby.

“Bring that over here.”

Ying Yuan was still holding Yi Shanshan’s breakfast. She carefully set it down, making sure the milk tea wouldn’t spill, then obediently followed Yi Shanshan’s instructions, hauling the boulder over.

It was massive, heavy, awkwardly shaped, and had sharp edges.

Ying Yuan stood before Yi Shanshan. “Okay.”

Yi Shanshan tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips, and pointed. “Smash the windshield.”

Ying Yuan: “!!!!”

Yi Shanshan: “I’ll cover the costs.”

“Oh.” Ying Yuan turned to face the car—a sleek red sports coupe with a low chassis, making it easy to reach the windshield.

She had never done anything so audacious before.

She hadn’t even broken a school rule.

Now she was committing a crime, and her mind clearly calculated the consequences: hefty compensation, police reports, interrogations, detention, school discipline, parental notification…

But what she was really thinking was, if the police come, we’ll both be arrested.

She could stay with Yi Shanshan, through it all.

If she refused, she wouldn’t even have the right to be by Yi Shanshan’s side.

And Yi Shanshan needed her.

Ying Yuan raised the boulder.

The silence finally shattered, replaced by the furious curses of car owners and Qi Hongyue’s frantic shouts.

Ignoring the commotion, Ying Yuan brought the heavy stone crashing down.

A deafening shatter.

The rock pierced the glass like a pickaxe shattering thick ice.

Ying Yuan turned, shielding Yi Shanshan from the flying shards. She closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, she saw Yi Shanshan smiling at her.

A radiant smile.

A joyful smile.

The very smile Ying Yuan loved most to see on Yi Shanshan’s face—the kind they shared yesterday when they won a game together.

Ying Yuan couldn’t help but smile back. The anger she had bottled up all morning vanished completely. She suddenly understood why Yi Shanshan had resorted to such extreme measures.

“That felt amazing,” Ying Yuan said, turning to Yi Shanshan. “Want to do it again?”

Qi Hongyue stormed over, grabbing each of their arms. “Have you two lost your minds?!”

Ying Yuan and Yi Shanshan looked at her together, laughing in unison.

Qi Hongyue: “……”

In the end, Qi Hongyue dragged them away.

Lin Feng seethed silently, her entourage reduced to howling at their damaged cars.

Regardless of what consequences might follow, Qi Hongyue led the group out of the parking lot first.

She hesitated to bring them back to the hotel, fearing they might still be followed and endanger the rest of the group.

So the three of them kept walking, kept walking.

They turned a corner, concealed themselves among the buildings, and continued until they reached a secluded hillside.

The slope was covered in lush green grass, dotted with small, unnamed yellow flowers that swayed gently in the breeze.

Qi Hongyue released their arms, catching her breath.

Before leaving, Ying Yuan hadn’t forgotten to grab that breakfast. Now she gleefully presented it to Yi Shanshan.

“Here, it’s still warm. Dig in!”

“Mm!” Yi Shanshan’s spirits lifted instantly, her lively, adorable self returning. She wrinkled her nose at Ying Yuan, grinning like a harmless puppy.

If only that puppy wasn’t holding a knife.

Qi Hongyue: “……”

Qi Hongyue: “Could you… put down that beautiful dagger?”

“Oh,” Yi Shanshan said obediently. She bent down and casually stuck the knife into the grassy slope.

She then settled onto the ground, blending into the floral landscape.

“There’s still morning dew on the grass,” Ying Yuan warned her, sitting down beside her anyway. “You’ll get your butt wet.”

“Hahahahahahaha, wet butt…”

Who knew what was so funny? Yi Shanshan certainly found it hilarious.

She collapsed into Ying Yuan’s arms with a laugh, happily devouring the breakfast Ying Yuan had specially brought for her.

“Don’t worry about the wet butt,” she said to Ying Yuan in a warm, intimate tone. “We have spare clothes in the suitcase. We can change.”

“Mmm-hmm,” Ying Yuan replied.

“And don’t worry about them calling the cops. They won’t dare.”

“Huh?” Ying Yuan looked puzzled.

“My own dear dad, remember? If I get arrested, it’s his reputation that’ll take a hit. He’ll have to pull strings to get me out.”

Ying Yuan fell silent for a moment. “I see.”

“Exactly,” Yi Shanshan said. “With power comes responsibility. If he wants to control me, he’ll have to pay the price.”

Qi Hongyue, who had been admiring the scenery with his back turned, chimed in. “Are you sure about this? Won’t it get Ying Yuan into trouble?”

“Ying Yuan’s biggest trouble is already me,” Yi Shanshan retorted.

She turned to Ying Yuan. “Scared?”

Her gaze was brutally honest. She wouldn’t sugarcoat the situation, pretending that being with her after something like this would bring only benefits. She even seemed to be anticipating future troubles. In her eyes, Ying Yuan saw the cunning little fox she had often seen before.

Ying Yuan knew just how “bad” Yi Shanshan could be, but she also knew how good she could be.

“It’s okay,” Ying Yuan said. “I chose this myself.”

I chose to get close to you. I chose to fall into this bottomless abyss.

“I’m willing to go on an adventure with you, to that world that’s both the most romantic and sweet, but also potentially the most heartbreaking and dangerous. That’s the price I’m willing to pay.”

Yi Shanshan laughed, tilting her head to look at Qi Hongyue. “See? Told you.”

Qi Hongyue: “……”

Yi Shanshan leaned closer to Ying Yuan. “Now I believe it.”

Ying Yuan: “Believe what?”

Yi Shanshan winked conspiratorially and whispered, “You really do like me more.”

Ying Yuan: “……”

How could Ying Yuan dare to say: The way I feel about you is different from how I feel about anyone else. My feelings for you surpass all others.

Qi Hongyue, wanting to escape the awkward tension between the two, stepped forward. “You two rest here. I’ll check the group chat to see if anyone else has woken up.”

A gentle breeze swept across the grassy slope, leaving Yi Shanshan and Ying Yuan alone.

Yi Shanshan was busy eating, her mouth full, while Ying Yuan had nothing to do but gaze at the flowers, the grass, and Yi Shanshan herself.

After the intense emotional outburst, a calm had settled over them, the atmosphere both tender and a little awkward.

Yi Shanshan suddenly asked, “Ying Yuan, what did Lin Feng tell you about me before I arrived?”

“We didn’t really talk much,” Ying Yuan said, frowning. “At first, I genuinely thought she cared about you.”

“And she doesn’t?” Yi Shanshan asked with a cold laugh. “She’s always been so eager to help, running around for me.”

“No,” Ying Yuan said, turning to face Yi Shanshan and analyzing the situation carefully. “If she truly cared about you, she’d consider things from your perspective, find ways to make you happy, and do what’s genuinely good for you. Instead, she uses the pretense of caring to constantly pressure you into doing things you don’t want to do.”

“Take yesterday, for example, when your phone broke and you couldn’t be reached. There were so many ways to handle it, but she deliberately chose the most complicated and dramatic approach.”

“She made it seem like she was sacrificing so much time and effort, but it was completely unnecessary. Worse, she used these ‘sacrifices’ to manipulate you, hold you hostage, and burden you with guilt and obligation.”

“She ruined your good mood. I even suspect she was deliberately trying to provoke you.”

Ying Yuan grew angrier as she spoke. “And when the matter should have ended, just because things didn’t go her way, she brought up your family to pressure you. She’s not on your side at all—she’s not a good friend!”

As Ying Yuan spoke, Yi Shanshan watched her, a smile slowly spreading across her face.

Ying Yuan possessed a peculiar magic. Despite being utterly clueless about emotional intelligence, her words invariably soothed Yi Shanshan’s heart.

Just like before, whenever Yi Shanshan felt down, merely seeing Ying Yuan, burying herself in her embrace, and letting Ying Yuan tug at her collar or smooth her hair, Yi Shanshan felt all her negative emotions find an outlet.

The uncontrollable anxiety, irritability, anger, and pain would flow away like water, gradually draining away.

“You’re right,” Yi Shanshan murmured in agreement.

“Exactly! So don’t blame yourself,” Ying Yuan insisted. “It was her fault to begin with. You fought back because you’re brave. And you fought back so fiercely… because you have the strength to!”

Yi Shanshan burst out laughing.

She blinked at Ying Yuan, gazing at her like she was looking at a pure white animal she could squeeze and tease at will. Mischief began to bubble up within her again.

“But you don’t have that strength, Ying Yuan,” Yi Shanshan said with feigned concern. “That car you smashed was really expensive. The dealership will probably charge over a hundred thousand for repairs.”

Ying Yuan: “!!!!”

Ying Yuan was stunned. She certainly couldn’t afford such a staggering sum. But…

“Didn’t I say I’d help you pay?” Yi Shanshan asked.

Ying Yuan’s face began to flush.

“Someone just casually mentions a sum of money that big, without a single written agreement, and you just believe them?” Yi Shanshan continued.

“!!!!” Ying Yuan exclaimed.

“What if I’d planned this with someone else, specifically to trick you?”

“????” Ying Yuan responded, utterly bewildered.

“Rich people might have money, but they’re also morally bankrupt and stingy as hell,” Yi Shanshan said.

“……” Ying Yuan fell silent.

“Otherwise, how do you think they got so rich?”

Ying Yuan was completely stunned.

Yi Shanshan had presented a scenario Ying Yuan hadn’t even considered possible.

“No business is honest, sweetie~” Yi Shanshan cooed, patting Ying Yuan’s cheek. “I could help you pay, but what are you willing to offer in return?”

Yi Shanshan’s smile widened, her fingers trailing down Ying Yuan’s cheek, sliding over her neck, and coming to rest on her chest.

Her beautifully manicured fingertips, freshly painted in a cute Melody pink, gently poked the soft, yielding flesh.

“Your body, or perhaps… your heart?”
