Chapter 14

Do you like it?

From a purely physical perspective, the answer was undoubtedly yes.

Yi Shanshan’s body was as soft as a cloud, her skin as smooth as the finest silk. When she pressed against Ying Yuan, the silk-on-silk sensation made Ying Yuan’s own skin feel incomparably refined.

But as soon as reason returned and Ying Yuan began to contemplate the future, anxiety would flood her mind.

This anxiety drove her to try to distance herself from Yi Shanshan, but her plan had clearly failed.

Yi Shanshan would never allow Ying Yuan to suddenly vanish from her life. She was too clever and too bold, her methods for controlling Ying Yuan were simply masterful.

I’ll just have to take it slow, Ying Yuan thought, lowering her gaze. Like quitting an addictive game, Yi Shanshan needs time, and so do I.

Hearing approaching footsteps, Ying Yuan subtly pulled back.

As someone passed by, Yi Shanshan quickly shifted from their intimate embrace into a pose of weary reliance, leaning heavily against Ying Yuan.

“Running around all day—I’m so tired,” Yi Shanshan added dramatically, as if reciting a line.

Once the person was gone, she beamed at Ying Yuan, eyes crinkling with smugness. “Wasn’t my reaction quick just now? I know you don’t like people seeing us together. I’ll be more careful about that in the future.”

Ying Yuan seized the opportunity. “I don’t like impromptu…”

“No problem at all,” Yi Shanshan replied decisively. “From now on, I’ll try to anticipate my moods and plan accordingly, making sure to invite you well in advance.”

“And not too many times in a single day…” Ying Yuan added.

Yi Shanshan placed her hands on Ying Yuan’s shoulders. “While I might indeed want many times, I respect your wishes. How about we reduce it from three times a day to once every three days? Would that work?”

Ying Yuan nodded. If Yi Shanshan could truly keep her word, there was hope that their meetings would gradually fade, stretching out the interval indefinitely.

With this progress, Ying Yuan felt considerably relieved. “Then I’ll go browse the exhibit some more.”

Yi Shanshan narrowed her eyes with a smile, leaning closer to Ying Yuan. She whispered in her ear, “Don’t you think our conversation just now sounded terribly cheesy?”

Ying Yuan thought back, her ears instantly burning crimson.

Yi Shanshan burst into laughter, finally pulling away completely. She waved goodbye. “Well, I’ll take my leave then.”

After a pause, she added, “My quota for today is satisfied, Ying Yuan. See you on Wednesday.”

If she said three days, she meant exactly three days.

Ying Yuan returned to school and enjoyed two peaceful days without Yi Shanshan.

Lina remained steadfastly by her side, marveling at how Yi Shanshan, who had been omnipresent over the weekend, had vanished completely after it.

On Wednesday morning, Yi Shanshan messaged Ying Yuan, asking to meet that afternoon.

Ying Yuan checked her class schedule and suggested the study hall at 5 p.m.

After class, no amount of persuasion could convince Lina to return to her dorm alone. She insisted on sleeping by Ying Yuan’s side, even if she dozed off.

“You were distracted for just a moment at the library last time, and Yi Shanshan cornered you,” Lina fumed. “I won our bet, but there was no joy in it. I’ll never let you fight alone again!”

Ying Yuan: “……”

Fine, I’ll just have to sneak away while you’re asleep.

For the study hall, Ying Yuan chose a corner classroom in the old building. The building was rarely used for classes, so it was quiet and sparsely populated.

True to form, Lina fell asleep at her desk after only about ten minutes of studying.

Ying Yuan texted Yi Shanshan the building floor but omitted the classroom number. She thought the best meeting spot would be near the water cooler.

As Ying Yuan rose to leave, water cup in hand, the soundly sleeping Lina suddenly whimpered and reached out, grabbing Ying Yuan’s sleeve.

“Can’t… be… alone…” she mumbled, her words half-formed and dreamlike.

Ying Yuan: “……”

How deeply obsessed is she! I hope Lina never learns the truth!

Ying Yuan felt a pang of heartache for Lina, and shame for her own fickle life, which changed course with every new dawn.

But Yi Shanshan was already here, the arrow strung and ready to fly. She had no choice but to continue deceiving her friend with a heavy heart. “I’m going to get some water. I’ll be right back.”

Lina released her grip, and Ying Yuan slipped away with nimble steps.

The hallway was eerily quiet, save for the soft echo of Ying Yuan’s footsteps.

Outside the old building’s window, towering trees cast their lush canopy across the glass, bathing the entire corridor in a verdant, watery glow.

Ying Yuan stepped into this tranquil green world, her heart pounding as she stole away to meet someone in secret.

The more clandestine the affair, the more thrilling it felt—as if she and Yi Shanshan were engaged in some forbidden, immoral act.

Just as she reached the water room’s entrance, an arm snaked out, grabbed her by the collar, and yanked her inside.

The water room was cramped and dimly lit, but Yi Shanshan radiated light. Her eyes sparkled, her skin glowed, and her vibrant clothes stood out like a sweet, colorful candy.

Today, she wore her hair in adorable twin ponytails, cradling a heavy box of strawberries.

“Didn’t expect to see strawberries now, did you?” Yi Shanshan grinned, plucking a large, crimson berry and raising it to Ying Yuan’s lips. “Ah—open wide.”

The strawberry brushed against Ying Yuan’s lips, its fragrance filling the air.

She opened her mouth, and the aroma became a tangible presence in her mouth.

“They’re washed, so you can eat them without worry,” Yi Shanshan said, her eyes crinkling into crescents as she popped one into Ying Yuan’s mouth and reached for another.

Ying Yuan chewed silently, the strawberry’s juice flooding her mouth. The vibrant image of Yi Shanshan filled her vision, and for a moment, it felt as if her sense of taste and sight had merged; Yi Shanshan tasted like strawberries—sweet, juicy, and fragrant.

After feeding her two strawberries, Yi Shanshan reached for a third, but Ying Yuan gently pressed her hand down. “That’s enough.”

Yi Shanshan cradled the large box. “These are all for you! They won’t keep long after being washed, so you’d better eat plenty.”

“Okay,” Ying Yuan replied.

“You can even share some with that goofy classmate of yours,” Yi Shanshan added.

“You’re not angry with her anymore?” Ying Yuan asked.

Yi Shanshan’s lips curled into a triumphant smirk. “As long as you’re willing, she can’t stand in our way. Then I won’t hold a grudge.”

Hearing those words, Ying Yuan felt a warm current flow through her heart, soothing and comforting.

“Now that you’ve had your fill for now…” Yi Shanshan set the strawberries down on the nearby water tank. “It’s my turn.”

She opened her arms to Ying Yuan, her brightly colored, oil-painting-patterned sweater—a Ferdinand masterpiece—spread out before her.

Ying Yuan didn’t understand. Before, Yi Shanshan would hug her without hesitation, so eager she barely gave Ying Yuan time to react. And Ying Yuan, once embraced, would stand stiffly like a wooden post, letting Yi Shanshan absorb all the comfort and affection.

Having grown accustomed to Yi Shanshan’s directness, Ying Yuan now felt confused and suspicious as Yi Shanshan tilted her head, looking at her expectantly, waiting.

“I didn’t used to consider your feelings enough. I’ve really been reflecting deeply,” Yi Shanshan revealed. “I spent the whole night thinking about it. Maybe… when you comfort me, you don’t feel comfortable.”

Yi Shanshan’s expression was earnest, but her words sounded oddly stilted. “So I’ve decided to give you the initiative. Come, Ying Yuan, hug me in whatever way you like. Anything goes.”
