Lu Rong even trembled slightly. Zhou Li was indeed a dangerous man.
Without showing it on his face, he was silently thinking about screwing her to death.
And she didn’t think she had done anything in particular. So how had such a dangerous thought suddenly emerged?
Could it be that simply eating a meal had triggered his heat again?
As expected of a restricted-novel male lead. He could think about this kind of thing anytime, anywhere, with absolutely no restraint.
Lu Rong’s gaze unconsciously drifted once more to Zhou Li’s bitten Adam’s apple.
His Adam’s apple shifted slightly, the deep mark flashing before her eyes, exactly like when he had been aroused the night before last.
“What are you looking at?” Zhou Li asked coldly.
Lu Rong snapped back to her senses and hurriedly looked away. “Want some tea?”
She deliberately found an excuse, lifting the teapot and looking at him.
Zhou Li pushed his cup over, placing it right next to hers.
Lu Rong poured tea for both of them. Afterward, she noticed that the five yellow hearts above his head had dropped to four, and even his expression had softened.
Seeing that he seemed to calm down fairly quickly, she relaxed slightly and turned to Senior Brother Minhui. “Senior Brother, would you like some tea?”
“Thank you, Rongrong.” Senior Brother Minhui pushed his cup forward, and Lu Rong smiled as she poured tea for him.
Then she stood up and poured tea for everyone. After all, she was the youngest there, with the lowest cultivation and status.
When she finished a full round and returned to her seat, she saw that Zhou Li’s profile, which had just lost its frost, had turned noticeably colder again. Above his head were once more five glaring yellow hearts.
And now there were additional words.
[Don’t smile at him.]
Lu Rong: “???”
Had he actually calmed down or not?
And what did “don’t smile at him” even mean?
Thinking he was simply unhappy about attending such a crowded banquet, Lu Rong sat down beside him and whispered softly, “If you don’t like it, you can leave early. No one would dare say anything.”
Hearing her words, Zhou Li turned his gaze toward her. Lu Rong thought he would respond with a cold “mm,” but instead he said, “I don’t dislike it.”
After that, he picked up his cup and calmly drank his tea.
Watching his mercurial expression, Lu Rong clicked her tongue inwardly.
[Whether he leaves or not, if he keeps holding it in, it’ll be his own problem when those two things explode.]
[Thinking about sleeping with me in front of so many people—how infuriating.]
Zhou Li: “…” How did she know?
He recalled how she had been repeatedly glancing at the top of his head out of the corner of her eye. Was there something above him?
He checked, but saw nothing.
Was it something only Lu Rong could see—just as he alone could hear her thoughts?
As he was pondering this, Min Hui suddenly said, “Rongrong, you and Junior Brother Zhou are really close.”
Lu Rong wanted to deny it, but thinking about her recent entanglement with Zhou Li, she couldn’t bring herself to say those words.
Yet she didn’t know how else to answer.
Her relationship with Zhou Li was no longer something that could be described as simply good or bad.
In contrast to Lu Rong’s silence, Zhou Li, who rarely engaged with others, unexpectedly responded with a quiet, “Mm.”
Everyone at the table, except Qiu Ling and Minhui, looked at the two of them in surprise.
Lu Rong also stared at Zhou Li in shock.
“Rong’er, have you and Li’er made up?” Lu Wen asked, surprised. Still, he had noticed that the tension between them had eased recently.
Lu Rong didn’t know whether to nod or shake her head, so she hurriedly changed the subject. “Ah—Dad, don’t ask. This is our business. Why hasn’t the food been served yet? I’m starving. I’ll go check.”
With that, she fled without hesitation.
Zhou Li watched her fleeing figure, the frost in his eyes melting away. When he withdrew his gaze, however, he swept Senior Brother Minhui with a cold glance.
That single glance made Minhui realize the killing intent directed at him.
Before, he hadn’t noticed the nature of Zhou Li and Lu Rong’s relationship. But now, seeing the subtle intimacy between them, he understood that the two were far from ordinary.
Especially that glance just now—it made his heart tighten.
He finally understood what the killing intent in Zhou Li’s eyes meant. Zhou Li cared about Lu Rong’s physical contact with him.
Before long, Lu Rong returned, carrying a plate of osmanthus cakes drizzled with honey. Before even sitting down, she said, “The dishes are coming soon. Everyone has some first.”
She set the plate down, but no one reached for it. After all, they had all long since abstained from food. Banquets were merely for gathering, and no one really desired food—especially something this sweet.
Qiu Ling picked up a piece and nearly choked on the sweetness. “Too sweet.”
Lu Rong took a bite herself and thought it was fine. Seeing the others uninterested, she nudged the plate toward Zhou Li. “Do you want some?”
“Eh—” Lu Wen was just about to say that Zhou Li didn’t eat things like this.
But then he saw Zhou Li take it and eat slowly and methodically, without the slightest hint of being overwhelmed by the sweetness.
He even looked as though he enjoyed it.
Lu Wen felt certain then that the two had truly reconciled. Relief filled his eyes—his daughter had clearly latched onto a powerful support.
Soon, all the dishes were served. Lu Rong couldn’t be bothered to listen to her father and Elder Qiu’s table talk and simply buried her head in eating.
“A’Ling, I want that!” She eyed the braised beef farthest from her, but the table was wide, and her arms were short.
Before Qiu Ling could move, Zhou Li, seated beside her, picked up a fresh pair of chopsticks and placed the beef into her bowl.
She froze, staring at him, momentarily stunned that he had served her food.
Thinking she hadn’t had enough, Zhou Li added two more portions, piling the beef into a small mound in her bowl.
“Eat,” he said casually, setting the chopsticks down.
Lu Rong noticed a line above his head.
[Must learn to serve Rongrong food.]
She almost couldn’t help laughing. He really spent all day thinking about things like this.
Qiu Ling’s gaze shifted back and forth between him and Lu Rong.
Lu Rong noticed and quickly withdrew her eyes, pretending she hadn’t seen anything. She only said a stiff “thank you” before lowering her head to eat.
But under the table, her hand had already slapped Zhou Li’s thigh.
Zhou Li looked at her in confusion. Lu Rong signaled with her eyes for him to stop being so intimate, but he didn’t seem to understand and continued serving her food with his chopsticks.
Everyone at the table stared at the mountain of food piling up in Lu Rong’s bowl again.
Seeing that he still didn’t get it, Lu Rong slapped his thigh hard once more. “That’s enough.”
Was he feeding her like a pig?
“Mmm.”
Lu Rong put on a pained expression. Everyone was staring at them—what was that “mm” supposed to mean?
Angry, she lightly kicked him under the table.
This simple family banquet had originally been held just to celebrate the three of them taking first place. After the initial polite remarks, everyone chatted freely.
By the end of the meal, the elders inevitably brought up topics people liked to hear.
For example, marriage.
“Old Lu, these kids are all at the age where feelings start to stir. You should keep an eye on your Rongrong. Quite a few disciples in the Xuanyang Sect like her.”
“They’re only fond of her looks,” Lu Wen said, glancing at Lu Rong and then at Minhui.
Lu Rong looked at Senior Brother Minhui in confusion, wondering why her father was looking at both of them while talking about this.
Only then did she belatedly realize her father’s intention in suddenly bringing up Minhui. She hurriedly said, “Yes, I’m still young. I don’t like anyone.”
Qiu Ling, who was never afraid of stirring trouble, immediately turned to Zhou Li and asked, “Then does Venerable Jian have someone he likes?”
