Chapter 37: Still Laughing or Not?
***
No one answered her. Only the pink-haired big-breasted succubus behind them piped up in a high-pitched voice:
“Do your best~ Make sure to be careful and cautious~”
Careful? Cautious? Did that mean they were weak?
Probably. Anyone with real skill would flash their blade and strike. Only those lacking confidence would adopt such a stance.
Hah, human turtles!
The Blade Demon cursed internally, raising both black blades in his hands and charging forward. A brilliant flash of blade light dazzled across the battlefield—
Clang!!
The energy scattered in all directions. The Blade Demon staggered back more than 10 steps, looking at the girl whose body only swayed slightly but hadn’t retreated a single step. His mind went blank.
“Goddess of Light above, please grant us gentle power to resist the harm of darkness.”
A holy light descended with the blessing, falling upon the Sword Saint girl.
“Thank you, Miss Lia, but I’m actually still in good condition. You didn’t need to.”
“It’s fine. Aira said to be careful and cautious.”
“That’s right, that’s right.”
Listening to their conversation, the Blade Demon sensed something was off.
No, he had to bring out his real skills.
He drew both hands together, merging his twin blades into one. The two black blades became a single massive demon blade. With an explosive shout, he leapt high into the air, a wave of energy slashing down toward the girl.
This was one of the Blade Demon’s signature techniques. It concentrated his scattered demonic power, gathering all his strength with the ability to split mountains and cleave earth. All demon race beings feared its reputation. Its name was— 【Soul-Severing Slash】!
Clang!!!
The energy was scattered again, but this time, Celeste retreated half a step. Before he could feel any joy, another holy light descended, and the girl’s already barely-depleted condition returned to full.
The Blade Demon’s face twitched.
Wrong, very wrong!
With such powerful abilities, was there any need for such defensive play?
He didn’t know why the girl was acting this way, but he knew that if he didn’t pull out something from the bottom of his arsenal, things would get very difficult from here on.
So he had to use the move that would decide everything!
“Ahhhhhhh!”
The Blade Demon spread both arms wide, throwing his head back with an enraged roar. His demonic power transformed into blade-shaped forms that circled around him, faster and faster, gradually becoming a ring of black storm.
This was his true ultimate technique, the origin of his title as “Blade,” the nightmare of countless demon race members in the dead of night. Its name was…
“Ice Crystal Barrage!”
This wasn’t his technique, it was rapid-fire magic released by the little witch. A continuous stream of sharp ice spikes bombarded the black storm. Though some were deflected, ice shards occasionally pierced through the storm, landing on the Blade Demon’s body. Each one drew blood.
Soon the storm subsided, revealing the Blade Demon’s wretched figure covered in bloody cuts as he coughed up blood.
“Cough cough! Despicable scoundrel!”
The ice spike damage was limited, all surface wounds, but the backlash from forcibly interrupting his ultimate technique left him feeling extremely bad.
Aira was so excited she almost jumped.
Ah, that’s right! How could they let him use his ultimate move?
I never even got the chance back then!
Without the opportunity to execute his ultimate technique, the Blade Demon had no options. He could only attack more frantically. Countless blades grew from his body, either falling into his hands or directly slashing at the girl.
Fast! Faster and faster! More and more vicious! As long as he could break through the critical point of the girl’s defense, there would still be a chance!
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang clang clang clang clang!
A series of crisp hammering sounds rang across the battlefield.
Finally, when the Blade Demon was nearly exhausted and couldn’t help but retreat to catch his breath, he heard a crack and saw the girl frown.
The sword broke.
“Tch.” Celeste made a helpless sound.
Holy light could repair her body, restore her condition and magic power, but it couldn’t maintain cold, lifeless weapons.
At this moment, the Blade Demon just wanted to throw his head back and laugh. His relentless frenzied attacks had finally paid off, carving out an opening in that impenetrable defense. This way, turning defeat into victory was within reach!
Then he saw the girl silently pull out another new sword from behind her.
Mass-produced equipment!
The Blade Demon’s mood collapsed a bit, but Celeste wasn’t too happy either. Although they were mass-produced goods and she’d brought backup weapons, if this one broke too, she’d only have one left.
So—
“Zero.” The girl called out toward the Blade Demon’s direction. “Stop waiting!”
What did she mean by Zero? What did she mean by stop waiting? Who was she talking to?
Just as the Blade Demon was confused, he suddenly heard a voice from behind:
“I thought you wanted to play a bit longer.”
Rip—!
“Ahhh!!”
The Blade Demon sprouted a blade from his elbow and slashed backward violently, but it was a step too late. The assassin girl had already vanished back into the shadows, leaving only a bloody wound on his lower back.
Wounds caused by the Silent Watcher, pain to the very soul.
And only at this moment did the Blade Demon finally understand, finally realize what kind of situation he was facing.
The ice-blue long-haired girl was skilled with the sword, her defense impenetrable. Standing in front of her companions like a wall, completely impossible to break through. Behind on the left, that blonde girl’s healing was tremendous, topping off the former’s condition every round. On the right, that red twin-tailed loli only interrupted his ultimate moves and didn’t act otherwise. The three of them would firmly pin him to the frontal battlefield, while another girl whose appearance he still hadn’t clearly seen was the real killer.
What a cautious tactic. What do they think I am, to employ such tactics against me?
The Blade Demon felt bitter inside. He thought even if the sword-wielding girl fought him one-on-one, the outcome might not be certain, but they stubbornly used this method, leaving him with strength but nowhere to use it.
Was he really going to die here today, and in such a frustrating way!
“Despicable humans! Can you only use such dishonorable methods? If you have guts, fight me one-on-one!”
Who’d fight you one-on-one when we have numbers? the girls thought. This was so much better, a stable win without effort, easily securing victory.
Besides, their dear companion Aira had instructed them before departure to make sure to… wait, Aira, where did you go?
The Blade Demon noticed the girls looking in his direction again. His nerves, somewhat dulled from continuous combat, tensed up once more. Unfortunately, it was too late. He only heard a soft voice from behind:
“Help me ask everyone, will they still laugh in the future?”
Swoosh—!
The Bone Sword entered from behind and exited through his chest, giving him a heart-chilling strike. The undead curse instantly crawled across his heart, taking the living being to the shore of no return.
The Great Demon who had been invincible among the demon race fell just like that.
Caw— Caw—
A crow circled twice in the sky above, as if mourning him, but soon turned and flew north.
“Should I shoot it down?” Vina asked.
While all her companions were surprised by Aira’s sudden action, she alone remained in mission mode. In a sense, her execution was maxed out.
“No need.” Aira glanced up at the sky. “That thing was already dead to begin with.”
