Chapter 41: Plant Speaker

***

Standing on the main road of the gathering place for idlers, Aira first put her hands on her hips and caught her breath.

She had experienced the feelings of that Dragon Eagle rider squad captain. The Dragon Eagle cavalry was the hard-earned foundation that the elven race had managed to accumulate, and the Hero Party was also what Lala had painstakingly built up.

Built up through personal involvement and fighting on the front lines!

“Aira, what are you standing around outside for?” Lia called out to her from inside the house, opening the window. “Come in and eat something.”

This was the largest and best tree house in the entire gathering place. As for why the girls could enter, it was because there were five old acquaintances inside.

The five-member group from the former elven diplomatic mission.

“It’s the Sky Knight.”

“Miss Aira.”

“You… hello.”

The two young males greeted her with red faces, and the unnamed female elf also said hello. These past few days, stories of the Sky Knight and Death Knight had been spreading throughout the elven race. A person’s reputation is like a tree’s shadow, the image had really taken root in people’s hearts.

Sylithea originally wanted to greet her too, but after turning around and seeing Trika’s expression, she held back.

It definitely wasn’t because she was afraid of getting scolded.

After explanation, it turned out this tree house was Lambert’s residence. The reason he could own the largest and best tree house in the gathering place had no other reason than simply because the other people were too lazy to maintain it.

After all, Lambert was only heartbroken. If he put in some effort, he could still work, unlike the others who were determined to do absolutely nothing.

He wasn’t home now, having gone to prepare food for the children.

“A few days ago, we originally wanted to participate in the elite selection, but the elder said the selection only allowed elves over 500 years old to participate. However, she gave us a new task,” Trika said. “To come here and do repair work!”

Aira understood, this should be called community service work.

It was indeed suitable for these children who had energy with nowhere to release it but couldn’t help much with important matters.

“By the way, how’s the situation? Has our army already suppressed the sealed entity?”

Faced with the elven girl’s inquiry, Aira shrugged and told the truth: “Not very good. They’re probably about to be broken through.”

“That’s impossible!”

“That’s just how it is. I didn’t even dare to look, and hurriedly ran over here with them… Of course, it wasn’t deserting the battlefield.” Aira met the gazes of the young people. “I promised Elder Isadora that I would protect you, because you are the future of the elven race.”

Trika was stunned for a moment, tears welling up in her eyes: “Elder… Elder.”

The other youngsters were also emotionally moved.

Good, no one cared about her running away anymore.

Taking advantage of the young elves’ moment of grief, Aira called Celeste aside and quietly discussed with her.

“We need a way to at least find out how Sissa’s progress is going. After defeating the besieging forces, she will definitely try to find that person’s whereabouts.”

“But you said she’s very dangerous and we can’t get close…”

“Yes, so we need to think of a way to observe from a distance.”

“Are Dragon Eagles really not feasible?”

“No, flying vehicles are highly mobile, but their flexibility in narrow ranges and short time periods is poor. Once targeted, it’s over.”

“I can carefully investigate with Zero.”

“No, that would be too dangerous…”

“What are you talking about?” Trika’s voice suddenly interrupted. “Want to gather intelligence from the front lines?”

Before Aira could say anything, she pulled over the elf loli: “You outsiders just don’t understand. Why worry about such a simple thing?”

Sylithea blinked innocently.

Aira understood what this meant: “She can do it?”

“Of course.” Trika proudly introduced, “Sylithea is our Plant Speaker.”

From the literal meaning, a Plant Speaker is someone who talks to plants, and after systematic training, they can become mages of the elven race, awakening plants to assist in battle on the battlefield.

Aira completely understood, looking at the elf loli: “In other words, you’re a trainee member of the mage formation.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s the youth version of elven mages. Anyway, since you can do it, let’s set off immediately.”

Time was of the essence, if they waited any longer, everyone on the front lines would be dead.

A few minutes later, five human girls and five members of the elven diplomatic mission came together to the large open space behind the gathering place, standing in groups of twos and threes.

Sylithea was pulled by Trika to sit in the very center, while the latter found a branch and began writing and drawing on the soft ground.

“To gather information near the sealed area, there are two direct methods. The first is to find mushrooms, mushrooms across a large area are all one family, their minds are connected to each other, and they can share information from mushrooms in the sealed area.”

As expected of an elf who could serve as the leader of a diplomatic mission, Trika’s abilities were quite good, she just hadn’t had a chance to demonstrate them before.

Aira nodded in approval. Through her knowledge from her previous life, she knew mushrooms weren’t just one family, fungi were actually the same individual, but this problem-solving approach was correct.

“The second method is to wait for news from the sealed area to come here. Pollen carried by insects, spores blown by wind, and seeds left over from animals eating can all carry information.”

Hearing this, Sylithea couldn’t help but curiously ask: “Seeds left over from animals eating, why can they be brought from there to here?”

“Don’t ask.” Trika covered her eyes. “Because we’re about to eat.”

“…Oh.”

Getting to work, the 10 people split up. They didn’t go too far, just searching around the gathering place.

On the elven side, the two boys went to find seeds “left over” by animals, and the unnamed girl collected dandelions blown over from that direction. On the human side, Celeste looked for mushrooms with Vina helping her, while Zero finally got to do what she used to love most — picking flowers.

Aira and Lia stayed in place, not participating in the search work. As for why, it was because their physical conditions weren’t quite suitable for looking for things on the ground.

Big breasts blocked their vision.

Lia wanted to say something, but seeing that Trika and Sylithea were still nearby, it wasn’t complete privacy, she could only secretly scratch Aira’s palm.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing much, just wanted to poke you.” The Saintess said righteously. “What, is that not allowed?”

“…It’s allowed.”

Of course palm-poking was allowed, poke away.

Soon, everyone returned with their respective findings, placing them all on the ground for Sylithea to choose from.

“Uh, this is… a seed?”

Sylithea looked at the dark object and decided to skip it, first touching a dandelion. She closed her eyes and muttered for a while, then suddenly her expression changed dramatically.

“What’s wrong?” Trika quickly asked. “How’s the situation?”

“Many people died… many seniors.”
