Chapter 3: A Victory of Sorts

***

If I had been tricked into revealing myself just now, who knows what kind of torment I’d be suffering right now. That was truly a close call.

Fortunately, the slender assassin girl didn’t notice a small detail from the daily life of a big-breasted girl, which gave her the only flaw to discover the truth.

Aira wiped the fragrant sweat from her forehead and thought to herself that finding the flaw and avoiding disaster could also be considered a kind of victory.

“I won.”

The Demon King perked up again, walked out the door, and came to the first floor.

The hall was already empty. Vina and Lia were nowhere to be seen, with only half a pot of black tea left on the table, still slightly warm.

Estimating that Celeste would return soon, she went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

At this time, in the courtyard outside, two girls sat on a stone table.

One was holy and elegant, the other had peach blossom eyes that were frivolous and teasing.

“I’ve already said that purification is a very serious matter. Even if our clothes weren’t properly worn due to the heat, what happened between us was serious,” Lia said this way.

When it comes to matters of Light, how could it be called lewd? That’s called purification.

“Of course you can say that now, since we didn’t catch you in the act,” Vina said, drawing circles on the table with her little finger. “If we had entered a few seconds earlier that night, such words would have been useless.”

Damn little witch, harboring ill intentions. I really can’t figure out when she started suspecting us.

The Saintess was fuming inside but maintained a dignified smile on her face: “Why do you say such things? We are pure and innocent. What didn’t happen simply didn’t happen, entering a few minutes earlier wouldn’t have made any difference.”

“How about we make a bet then?”

Vina suddenly leaned closer and whispered to her:

“If I catch you two doing something improper, you’ll have to agree to one small request of mine.”

“What request?” Lia asked instinctively, then realized and added, “Of course, since nothing happened, it’s impossible to be caught. I’m just purely curious.”

“I haven’t thought of it yet. Don’t worry, it’s just a very small request, like letting me watch from the side…”

Absolutely not!

Lia’s chest heaved a few times as she forced herself to say: “We are pure and innocent, so this could never happen.”

“Since it’s impossible for you to lose, what’s the harm in agreeing?”

“…Fine!”

The Saintess, provoked by this challenge, even forgot to ask what would happen if Vina lost. But given that this bet had no time limit, it was hard to say when the little witch would be considered the loser.

At this moment, the sound of footsteps came from the direction of the camp’s main gate, and the figure of a girl with ice-blue long hair appeared.

“Celeste is back! Welcome home~”

“Mm, I’m back. What are you two doing sitting outside?”

“Drinking tea.”

Celeste looked at the empty table and was slightly stunned: “Drinking tea?”

Where’s the tea?

The teapot was sitting in the hall.

Lia’s explanation for this was that she forgot. After coming out, they chatted about some things, discussing experiences in Harbor City. Now that you’re back, we won’t drink tea anymore, let’s go back together for dinner.

They found Aira in the kitchen wearing a maid apron, with white lace and a short skirt that was super cute.

“Please wait a moment. Dinner will be ready soon,” she said.

Not only was she dressed as a maid, but she was also speaking in a cute, high-pitched voice.

Celeste’s breathing quickened, and she momentarily forgot to share the good news about the reward.

“Don’t, don’t look at me like that,” Aira said shyly, pinching the white lace hem of her skirt. “This was the only thing I could find to wear in the kitchen.”

Hehe, got you! Being distracted by the maid outfit means you’ll temporarily forget about what happened that night 3 days ago.

The Demon King was very pleased with herself, until she saw a petite figure with black straight hair also walking over.

“Aira, this outfit suits you very well,” Zero said with a smile. “Super cute.”

The smile was bright and sunny, but thinking about what she had done half an hour ago made Aira’s blood run cold.

“As, as long as you all like it… Oh right, Celeste, did the report go smoothly?”

Quickly change the subject.

“Very smoothly!”

Celeste briefly explained the contents of the report and also informed everyone about the medal ceremony.

“The royal family will personally conduct the medal ceremony in the great hall,” Vina said, cupping her small face in her hands. “If that prince comes, the scene would probably be quite awkward.”

Aira was noncommittal.

She didn’t know whether the human kingdom’s medal ceremonies required royal family participation, but since the square-faced man actively proposed it, he probably had some intention of easing the conflict between both sides.

Lia didn’t care about these things anyway. She had to avoid suspicion, so this matter had nothing to do with her.

Dinner was simple home cooking, whatever could be bought nearby. Aira’s cooking skills couldn’t be called absolutely amazing, but they were pretty good. The girls ate with great relish, especially Celeste, who had 2 more bowls of rice than usual.

Perhaps the maid outfit played a significant role.

“I’m full~ Does anyone want to take a walk in the courtyard?”

“No, I want to rest early.”

“I also need to rest early. Tomorrow I have to return to the church to discuss establishing a branch.”

“I’ll pass too. Dinner was delicious, Aira, thank you for the meal,” Celeste said. “Also, are you free tomorrow to come with me to find Teacher Roars? Regarding the Evil God matter, I must explain it to him personally.”

Tell him about the Evil God?

Oh right, as a great human hero with extensive battle experience and rich knowledge, he would surely know something about it.

Aira quickly nodded: “I’m free. Let’s go together tomorrow.”

And so it was decided.

That evening, after tidying up everything and returning to her own room, she locked the door securely before lying down to sleep.

Perhaps because of the failed “disguise” that evening, Zero didn’t attempt a second try in the short term, staying honest for now, allowing Aira to finally get a good night’s sleep.

The next morning, after the two girls washed up and had a simple breakfast, they headed together toward the Hall of Tribute.

The soldiers on duty at the palace gate today were of good quality. The moment they saw the pink-haired big-breasted girl, their pupils contracted, but they still properly fulfilled their duties, asking about their reason for entering the palace.

Going to the Hall of Tribute didn’t require entering the inner palace, so after simple questioning, they were allowed through.

Roars had learned of the girls’ return yesterday and got up early today, taking out his treasured tea leaves and sitting in the living room waiting.

Entering through the main door and coming to the corridor, Aira once again saw the calligraphy “All Things Are Born from Equilibrium” on the wall, feeling somewhat emotional.

She had been unlucky recently. If equilibrium was real, shouldn’t some good luck be coming her way?

“Good morning, Little Celi, and Aira.”

“Good morning, Teacher.”

Celeste wasted no time. Sitting down without even touching her tea, she said straightforwardly: “Regarding what happened in Harbor City, I didn’t write it clearly in the submitted report. In fact, during our confrontation with the merfolk, we discovered they were attempting to summon an Evil God.”

Roars immediately put down his teacup: “What did you say, Evil God?”

“Yes, and they almost succeeded!”
