Miss Demon King, Please Endure a Little Longer - Volume 3 Chapter 23
Chapter 23: The Situation
***
Getting a little closer, the girls clearly felt that they were different.
Compared to the army from Harbor City, they weren’t as tall, weren’t as strong, and their equipment wasn’t as well-made either.
“There are huge differences between the various demon tribes,” Aira explained in a low voice. “The differences between some tribes are even greater than the differences between humans and demons.”
Being able to merge so many demons of different bloodlines together really shows the Demon King’s great talent and strategy.
Vina looked them over carefully, a bit curious: “Theoretically speaking, the force from Harbor City belongs to the rebels, so why would the rebels have better equipment than the regular army?”
“…Yeah, that’s really strange.”
While they were talking, several isolated demon soldiers had already charged over. Their height wasn’t much greater than humans, just with larger builds. They wore armor but only breastplates, and the weapons in their hands weren’t uniform either, one held a spiked club, one held a meteor hammer, and another held a bow and arrows of unclear significance.
When they saw the girls, their charging steps paused for a moment, and their faces showed confusion, as if they didn’t quite understand why several humans would appear in the elven forest.
No pointed ears, obviously.
“What are you standing around for,” the demon soldier with the bow shouted loudly. “An unexpected windfall delivered to our door, capture them!”
So he was a squad leader, no wonder he could carry the team’s only ranged weapon.
Without needing the others to act, Celeste alone swung her sword forward, first cutting the connecting chain of the meteor hammer, lightly flicking to send both the spiked club wielder and his weapon flying together, and casually deflecting an arrow shot from range.
Weak and powerless, with no follow-up shots, it couldn’t even let her try out the sword techniques she’d been practicing these past few days.
The two melee fighters were already down, and seeing things going badly, the archer dropped his longbow and was just about to draw the knife at his waist when a vine grew up from the ground, firmly binding his feet.
With a thud, he was down too.
“How strange, the wood element here is so hard to control,” Vina shook her small hands. “Although I’m not very good with this element, it shouldn’t be this weak.”
She had originally wanted to tie this guy up completely, but after great effort only managed to bind his feet.
Aira looked at the vine on the ground, having some thoughts.
A few minutes later, the three demon soldiers were tied up and thrown on the ground. Celeste walked over and directly asked the squad leader with the bow: “How many people did you bring this time, and what scale of war are you planning to launch?”
This question seemed to remind him that he wasn’t fighting alone, and his previously deflated expression regained some spirit.
“We deployed 800,000 troops!” he said proudly. “Unstoppable momentum, straight to the elven capital!”
Before Celeste and the girls could be shocked, they heard Aira say lightly: “False, looks like he doesn’t know either.”
At these words, the archer demon soldier became indignant: “Who are you to say that?”
“Half a year ago, the demon army had a standing force of just over 500,000. Limited by their vast territory, the troops are quite scattered, with a considerable portion controlled by tribal chiefs in various regions. Under full mobilization they could field over a million soldiers, but that would require a leader with absolute power, tribal chiefs who could put aside their differences and unite, and a reason for war that would make the entire race’s blood boil. Do you have any of that?”
As Aira moved closer, the demon soldiers’ eyes widened, but they remained defiant.
Just because you have big breasts doesn’t mean everything you say is right.
“There’s another more intuitive reason, if you really had that many people, why are there only scattered soldiers left once you entered the forest? Shouldn’t there be armies everywhere across the mountains and plains?”
This question stumped them. Thinking about it themselves, it did seem to make sense, and their heads immediately drooped down.
Celeste frowned. If these people didn’t know anything, what about intelligence?
She cast a pleading look at the girl: “Aira, you ask then.”
“Okay~”
Aira smiled sweetly, then turned to face the three demon soldiers with an instantly changed expression: “Who is your leader, and who started this war?”
Although the girl’s face looked stern, there was a perspective problem, the prisoners sitting on the ground couldn’t see her face, and this question reminded them again.
Right, these guys had people above them.
“You’d better let us go. I’ll tell you, we’re acting under orders from Bloodslaughter Lord to march south and conquer the elven race. You humans better not meddle in affairs that don’t concern you!”
Aira immediately understood, so it was the leader of the Blood Demon tribe.
Unlike the Wolf-Head tribe, the Blood Demon race didn’t differ much from ordinary people in appearance. The blood in their bodies had higher activity than normal people, giving them restless energy with nowhere to go, often causing trouble. Their leader Bloodslaughter Lord even had a blood-burning secret technique that could greatly increase speed and magic resistance for short periods.
Magic resistance, no wonder they were targeting the elven race. Most likely they wanted to use the achievements from this war to claim the Demon King’s throne.
As for 800,000 troops, that definitely didn’t exist. At most they brought the entire Blood Demon tribe, and counting old and young that would only be a few hundred thousand. Actual combat-capable soldiers would be at most tens of thousands. However, as the war heated up, Bloodslaughter Lord himself would definitely enter the battlefield, and there would be plenty of opportunities to find him then.
Aira looked at the three on the ground and asked them a question: “Demon King Io once forbade you from attacking the elven race. Why didn’t you follow orders?”
The squad leader sneered: “What does Io count for? Bloodslaughter Lord said that only those without real strength resort to schemes. After defeating the elven race, our Lord will be the true Demon King!”
Well, what was I expecting.
Aira turned to look at the girls, saying with a serious face: “Leaving them here would leak our intelligence, so it’s better to deal with them on the spot.”
To avoid seeming cold and heartless to them, she specifically added a verbal tic at the end to sound more cute.
Swoosh—
Ice-blue sword light flashed, and three heads fell to the ground in unison.
Wait, that was too fast!
Hearing the sound, Aira quickly pulled Lia and Vina beside her backward, while calling out: “Zero, don’t get close!”
Spurt spurt spurt!
Three strong, powerful jets of blood sprayed out, proving their pride as members of the Blood Demon race. Fortunately the girls either reacted quickly or were saved by Aira, otherwise they would definitely have been sprayed all over.
Celeste somewhat awkwardly sheathed her sword. She had been a bit too quick, but wasn’t that to show her trust in Aira?
“Where do we go now, continue forward?”
“Let’s go back first,” Aira said. “For us, getting this intelligence is enough. Let’s see what the elven race plans to do, they must have gotten the news too.”
She guessed correctly. While the girls had made the round trip on foot, the elven ranger scout teams had already made several trips riding Whistle Deer. The elders who had received the news were once again gathered outside the tree house.
Just in time.
