Chapter 21: The Great Invasion

***

Sylithea had used up her daily quota of speaking to outsiders, and Isadora had returned.

“Hello, did you sleep well last night, and was breakfast to your taste?”

“It was fine, thank you for your hospitality.”

The other party’s words sounded very friendly, but Celeste still chose to speak formally. After the Harbor City trip, she had become more cautious when dealing with outsiders.

Isadora looked at the girls and smiled: “If you’re ready, please follow me.”

To see that so-called Sacred Spring seal.

A few minutes later, Sylithea returned alone to the tree house where they were staying, where the other young elves were waiting. Not just the members of the envoy group, but another dozen or so who immediately approached when they saw her return.

“Why did you come back alone?”

“Where are the others?”

The elf loli looked troubled: “The elder took them to the Sacred Spring and wouldn’t let me follow.”

How unreasonable! Not letting her own people see places in their own territory, but only taking outsiders there instead.

The dozen or so young elves couldn’t stand this injustice. They were immediately filled with righteous indignation, wishing there was a table in front of them to slam their fists on.

“Come on, let’s go find other elders to settle this!”

On the other side, after following Isadora through the forest for a long time, nearly an hour, their pace finally slowed down somewhat.

To maintain her character, Aira pretended to be tired and started complaining, but unexpectedly Lia immediately cast a blessing on her without a word, instantly removing any reason to complain.

“Aira, you really need to exercise more,” the Saintess said with full conviction. “Because I won’t help you all the time. Sometimes when you’re tired, you’ll have to persevere on your own.”

She couldn’t help but puff out her chest after saying this.

So great, this feeling of saying embarrassing things in front of her companions, but they don’t know and think it’s normal conversation, hehe.

Lia thought this way, completely unaware that someone behind her had glanced at her.

“Hiss, I feel a bit cold on my back… Do you all need warming up?”

“No need.”

“I’m fine.”

“I don’t feel any wind.”

Her companions declined the Saintess’s kind offer, so she cast a blessing on herself, and her body immediately warmed up.

Now it wasn’t cold anymore.

After proceeding at a slower pace for a few minutes, they reached their destination. What appeared before them was a desolate old field with nothing in it, completely bare. Having such a place in the dense forest seemed very out of place, like a bald spot appearing in thick hair.

But looking closely, one could see that the vegetation in the field was arranged in orderly patterns, and there were several unrecognizable plants that encircled the entire field like a formation.

No spring, but there was a seal.

“I’d like to ask something.” Isadora looked toward the pink-haired big-breasted human girl. “How did you come to know about this matter?”

Aira hesitated for a moment, then pulled out two pages from her pocket, pages from 《Iselis’s Meteor》.

Before departure, Roars had torn this story from the fable book and given it to her. Perhaps “torn” wasn’t the right word, the book itself was severely aged and came apart with a little force.

“Over 100 years ago, when the Highborn Alliance still existed, a human envoy group came here for cultural exchange. Among them was a traveling bard who searched everywhere and collected many local stories, then went back and compiled them into a book. Unfortunately, at your request, the book was never published on a large scale, and only a few copies remained.” Celeste said. “It just so happens that my teacher has one copy and let us see it.”

She was happy to say these things because it was proof that she and Aira were working together, showing that among the five-person team, they were the closer pair.

No one noticed her little scheme, right? Celeste secretly glanced at her companions and found that everyone was observing the patterns on the ground, paying no attention to this.

“Oh, it was them. I still remember several of them.” A flash of nostalgia passed through Isadora’s eyes. “Before I knew it, over 100 years have passed.”

Yes, while the human kingdoms had gone through several generations of succession and the Highborn Alliance had become ancient history in the history books, for the elven race it had only been a short while.

“Back to the main topic, the situation is basically the same as written in the book. Her name was Sissa, an elf who lived here, an ordinary member among the forest’s countless children. However, she was smart from a young age. If she were alive now, she might have joined an envoy group visiting foreign tribes.”

Isadora used this description to give them a more intuitive comparison.

But the problem was, which envoy group was she referring to, the human envoy group, or those few from the elven envoy group? There was quite a difference.

Vina wanted to ask, but was quickly pulled back by Celeste.

Don’t ask, it would be very rude.

“There’s something I want to know.” Aira took back the pages and pointed to the title. “The name Iselis, where did you learn it from?”

Since the little girl was named Sissa, why was this name used in the title?

“I’m not too clear either.” Isadora shook her head. “It seems that back then, someone heard Sissa continuously muttering ‘It’s all Iselis’s fault’ when she walked out of the sea of fire.”

Aira and Celeste exchanged glances, and this little moment of understanding made the Sword Saint girl even happier.

Getting to the point, that’s right, it was that Evil God from Harbor City. A thousand years ago he was causing trouble among the elven race, and these past few decades he’s been causing trouble by the sea. He really has done nothing but evil, his crimes are heinous.

To show sincerity, Aira simplified this information and shared it: “We have evidence that Iselis is an Evil God from beyond the heavens. Although his true form is far away, he has been trying to use dimensional power to invade this world.”

“If that’s the case, then the situation we’re facing is very critical.”

Isadora’s face grew serious as she turned to look at the field, taking in all the symbol-like plant patterns.

“According to our estimates, Sissa will awaken in about half a month, then break through the ground and attempt to continue doing some terrible things. If this matter also involves an Evil God, once she succeeds, I’m afraid a disaster will befall us.”

About half a month, huh.

Hearing this, Aira was a bit curious: “Let me just ask, if we hadn’t sent out invitations a few days ago, were you planning to handle this yourselves?”

The elven race was way too relaxed, only getting worried with half a month left.

Isadora was about to speak when urgent hoofbeats suddenly came from not far ahead. Over a dozen Whistle Deer burst out from the dense forest, each with an elf riding on it.

More than a dozen of them, both male and female, all with relatively small and agile builds, positioned for flexibility, they looked like scouts or reconnaissance personnel.

Real reconnaissance personnel, not like Zero, who was only called reconnaissance in formal situations because “assassin” didn’t sound good.

“Elder, this is bad!” The male elf at the front jumped off his Whistle Deer and ran over. “The demon race has invaded from the north!”
