Chapter 20: Day One

***

The lodging prepared by the elven race was a type of elaborately decorated treehouse that looked like a very large tree from the outside, hollowed out in the middle for people to live in.

Aira confirmed repeatedly that this wasn’t some kind of living building, just styled to look like one, ensuring that the treehouse couldn’t move on its own and had no independent consciousness before she felt comfortable moving in.

Well, the air here was quite nice, very fresh indeed.

Aira tested the fluffy pillow, lay down and closed her eyes. Good night.

Zzzz

In the adjacent room, after letting down her single ponytail, the black-haired girl lay on her stomach on the bed, feeling around the wall a few times, testing it out. Since it was a treehouse, the walls were also wooden and looked quite thin, but after trying she discovered the soundproofing was actually very strong.

She couldn’t see next door, nor could she hear next door.

A few minutes later, Zero gave up and sat down, preparing to get a good night’s sleep on her own.

Theoretically speaking, this was the first time resting alone since last night. Closing her eyes, scene after scene that floated through her mind were all memories.

Last night, in the Great Cathedral of Light in the royal capital, in some unknown small compartment, seeing the girl’s comfortable humming appearance, she didn’t feel happy at all in her heart, because that didn’t belong to her.

Miss Lia, wasn’t she always very distant toward Aira? Why were they secretly getting together? It was really too much, hiding it from all of us.

Of course, even worse was Aira. She was already secretly involved with another girl, yet still spoke sweet words to her, even saying things like liking her flowers.

Taking advantage of her Undead Form to launch a sneak attack wasn’t very nice, but Aira was the one who was bad first.

Bad girls should receive more punishment.

The other two rooms didn’t have so many thoughts, especially the little witch, who lay down and went straight to sleep. She wasn’t in a hurry. Since they were already here, the elven race, being an old established higher race, would definitely have many interesting things.

Celeste thought a bit more, but what she thought about was all serious matters. For instance, she pondered whether the obviously bad attitude of the several people in the elven delegation was some kind of smokescreen. After all, they were supposedly geniuses of the elven race’s younger generation, they couldn’t be this childish, could they?

Hmm, they shouldn’t be… right?

Zzzz

The Hero Party, on their first night in the Elven Kingdom, a peaceful night.

The morning of the second day arrived.

Due to the tall tree canopy blocking the sky, although the sunlight filtering through the leaves could be considered bright, they couldn’t see the sun’s position and thus couldn’t tell the specific time.

“My biological clock tells me it’s 10 AM right now,” Vina said, then yawned, so she corrected herself, “or 9 AM.”

If it were definitely 10 AM she would have slept enough and wouldn’t be yawning.

At this time they were in the big treehouse, enjoying breakfast, some fresh and crisp salads, and low-temperature grilled meat slices.

Not to mention the cooking skills and seasoning flavors, the meat quality itself was very good, tender and juicy.

Vina was quite surprised by this: “So the elven race eats meat too. I thought they only ate vegetables, like those herbivorous animals in the forest.”

“You absolutely mustn’t let them hear you say that,” Celeste kindly reminded her. “What if it’s some kind of taboo statement.”

Respecting the cultural differences of different races, after all, they were currently on someone else’s territory.

After eating breakfast, Sylithea came to take them to see the elder.

Having learned from the experience of being questioned in the royal capital last time, the elven loli learned her lesson and didn’t say a single word, just purely led the way.

Vina still wanted to use “you’re a loli and I’m a loli too” to get close, but the other party completely ignored her, keeping her little mouth shut and just walking forward stubbornly.

“Why are you so wary of us? That square-faced guy deceived you, we’re different from him, really.”

It was useless, no matter what they said, she wouldn’t believe them again!

Starting from the resting treehouse, along a soft vine path, after walking for about 20 minutes, they could see Isadora’s figure in the distance.

Sylithea stopped walking and spoke her first sentence of the day: “Wait here first, the elders are talking.”

“Elders?” Celeste noticed this word. “The one talking with Elder Isadora is also one of your elders?”

But the elven loli’s mouth wouldn’t open again.

She had only given herself two chances to “speak to outsiders” today, and had already used up half of them just now!

Where the girls watched and waited, about 200 meters away, a conversation was taking place.

“You plan to take them to see the seal?” The female elf across from her frowned slightly. “I think this is unnecessary behavior.”

As a fellow elder of similar age, her appearance was more conspicuous compared to Isadora. Several deep wrinkles on her face gave her a somewhat fierce look.

The elven race didn’t have ageless faces, only insufficiently long years.

“Just to take a look, Trinia.” Isadora spoke the other’s name. “Rather than this, what we should be more concerned about is that our young people are showing a lot of emotion toward the human delegation.”

“That’s exactly my purpose, they’ve become spirited and will unite together,” Trinia said. “The problems of the elven race must be solved by ourselves.”

The long years made their spirits dull, viewing everything in life as unimportant passersby, their emotions becoming increasingly indifferent.

In the imagination of most people in the human kingdom, after being cut off for 100 years, the magical elven race must have become much stronger during these 100 years, right?

In reality, there was no change at all.

This was the flaw of the elven race.

As they aged and had fewer years remaining, they became more acutely aware of this point. Thus, each member of the council of elders, representing the wisdom of the elven race, was using their own methods to try to change the status quo and save their people in this crisis.

“I don’t necessarily think so. Human lives are short but brilliant, especially these young geniuses who came this time,” Isadora said. “They will bring unexpected vitality.”

Trinia didn’t refute, only saying: “I have my own view, the elven race can only rely on itself.”

The young geniuses of the human race could stimulate the children’s competitive spirit and force them to unite.

Now, facing a huge crisis, they must awaken the elves from their numbness and dullness, no matter what method.

The few remaining years stripped her from indifference, while the long time told her that hatred was easier than liking, and hate was stronger than love.

Trinia pretended to casually glance toward the north.

To awaken the entire race, she wouldn’t hesitate to use any method.

…

Aira withdrew her gaze from the north.

“Little Ai, what are you looking at?” Vina jumped out from beside her at some point. “Is there something over there?”

“Nothing, I’m just looking at the scenery… The scenery is really nice.”

Of course Aira wouldn’t tell her that beyond the northern forest was the border with the demon territories, that was her homeland.

Feeling homesick, what was wrong with looking a couple more times?

At this time, the elven loli spoke: “The elder is coming back.”
